I'm kind of sad they banned the wrangler because it is a really fun game mechanic
Well, it *is* CEVO.
They are the ultimate funhaters.
the wrangler was banned because it is a new unlock that might have stupid amounts of turtling potential in 6v6
so options were lower engy amount to 1
(which is silly because a regular strat on some final points, like gravelpit, is two engies)
or to ban the potentially gamebreaking (at the 6v6 scale) item for a season and see how it goes
i do not like the idea that competitive organizations are "fun haters" just because they are trying to keep a competitive metagame have a semblance of balance
I'm quite confused how a group of folks, err excuse me, a competitive orginization can decide what is unbalanced without, ya know, testing it for a season or so.
i think they are of the philosophy that they would rather not take the risk that it is unbalanced and let it go into the season
than assume it is balanced (for 6v6) and hope that it all goes for the best
i mean, with two wrangling engies in a 6v6 situation, almost any final point can get locked down

Maybe they banned it so that they can test it in controlled conditions first?
Or am I giving them too much credit? I don't know much about competitive gaming.
I would expect a season of competitive play to be a controlled environment. I'm really just nitpicking more than anything. It's the typical "we aren't used to this new thing so we hate it" mentality that I don't like.

Hey, yeah, problem with Granal Probe on HDC: there's no round limit, just a time limit. So it was kind of hellish as we got rolled over and over and ended the map with scores like 20 for the top blu player and 86 for the top red player.
Can you even find old versions of Valve maps? Like goldrush with the door and open platform, Granary with gates and a setup time, or gravelpit where you could build sentries under the floor.
Was TF2 ever sold on a disc? Was it in the orange box or was it download only? Because you could get original versions of maps that way.
Or anyone who has an old gcf, like they downloaded TF2 once upon a time and then never connected to Steam again.
Valve gave us the vmf's to several maps last year too, so in theory someone could go make the necessary changes and recompile the map.
While we're talking about crazy maps, I remember playing on a server that had ctf_2fort_upsidedown.
Goddamn that was weird. I have a new appreciation for regular 2fort after that.
Suddenly I want to make a 5CP map that's fully playable in each of four configurations, and rotates ninety degrees any time a team captures a point.

Rocket launcher / mortar for the Soldier. When fired, the weapon projects a hitscan in search of the nearest walkable surface on the map. If it locates such a surface, it produces a rocket that flies on a parabolic arc such that it arrives at the same time a standard rocket would have. If unable to find a walkable surface, it settles for the nearest non-walkable surface and flies such that it impacts at a 45 degree angle.

He couldn't find a blue suit, seriously?
Edit: Talking about TF2 cosplay, I just checked my flickr referrals for the day and saw that someone had checked out my photo of the Halolz guy with the real-life Towering Pillar of Hats at PAX East.
Seriously that guy was awesome.
(ignore the terrible composition. I'm just going to blame con exhaustion for my inability to aim the camera.)

Is Frontier Justice buggy or is it just me doing something wrong?
I'm not getting crits when my sentry gets blown up.. I only get them when the sentry has kills and I destroy the sentry myself.
The update seemed to suggest every time an enemy blew up my sentry, I'd get a revenge crit.
You should get crits if an enemy blows it up, as long as the sentry had racked up any kills and/or assists. You don't get any crits if the sentry is destroyed without scoring any kills or assists at all.

That's kind of bullshit, considering the gun hits about as hard as a sponge.
I get that the idea behind it is having a source of supporting fire while the engineer runs around with his shotgun, but in tight maps like goldrush or dustbowl, that's not really an option.
I guess what it says to me is that normal shotgun is the way to go.
The way I use the quick sentry is Frontier Justice + Pistol + Gunslinger, I use the pistol as my main weapon until the sentry gets some kills then bust out the heavy firepower.
When using regular sentry now I tend to go Regular Shotgun + Wrangler + Wrench. Since I have to give up the pistol for the wrangler, I want the regular shotty's better utility without relying on sentries dying.
If you're using the wrangler you kind of need to be near your sentry so..point is moot. And you aren't exactly supposed to be leading the charge. And you can build your shit in safety and move it up.

If you're hanging back guarding your sentry you either won't be letting it die or won't be up in the action where the FJ would be useful, though. If you're just spy checking you might as well use the regular shotgun.

imagine doing it with 6
valve balances this game around 12v12, right? they don't plan for other numbers?

Is this the promised day
The only experience I've with that map is that youtube video with the 12 year old constantly screaming for 5 minutes.
That being said, I still want to play it...badly.

as much as I enjoyed rolling over blue over and over again for 25 minutes, it couldn't have been enjoyable to them

Haha who cares?
But unnecessarily bitchy snark is never not called for.
Also jokes.

Sorry, I just found it amusing that someone's reaction to that photo would be "pah! That suit isn't even blue!".
Obviously an actual BLU spy.

well, i don't mind that it isn't red or blue
but it isn't even pinstriped!

FJ + Wrangler leaves an engie nearly defenseless away from his sentry
(i haven't seen it around much lately, strangely)
