    The clothign isn't gender restricted.

I got both by going in again after getting the dress as a L15 martial artist and she handed me the second piece. Wonder if I can get a third somehow.

TWO new quests. One is marked "story" and is presumably part of the epilogue.
The story one appears to involve a unique grotto. Not a boss map, but something else. Apparently drops something interesting, and is repeatable.

Edit: Nope. It's an escort mission. Into any grotto named "Of Dolour". The client is a shopkeeper, talk to him/her from BEHIND the counter to activate the discussion.

... awww. Crap. I'm gonna hit the sack rather than deal with that.

    How long do they stay?

They get added to your extra quest list, and then remain there until you're eligible to tackle them.

It didn't work when one of my party members was a Martial artist. She only gave them to me when I changed the Hero's class to it and talked to her.

You can also get her hat if you set your DS to your birthday and talk to her again. Just make sure you set the date right in the in-game profile menu. I screwed up the day, and I was scratching my head as to why it wasn't working.

She supposedly gives you yet another item if you talk to her with a fully upgraded inn. And that's only gotten by having 30 tags.

Yeah... that Gamestop event on the 31st just became that much more bloody important, since it's likely to be the only time most of us will use Tag mode period, much less get 30 hits off it.

Important thing to remember with skillpoints is:

    1. You get 2400 skillpoints before revocation or whatever it's called (going from L99 to L1).
    2. You get 200 from level 1-99
    3. You get 100 from 1-38
    4. You get 100 from 39-99
    5. Passive abilities (the 5th, unique, skilltree) is the most important for each job, as they affect every job, even level new level 1 jobs.
    6. Going from 1-38 off metal slimes / liquid metal slimes is easy.
    7. EVERYONE wants Paladin (massive defense and HP bonuses) and Sage (mana + MP cost discount)'s unique to 100.
Another important thing to note is that, when you revocate, all the points put into that class' unique tree are reset to zero, so in order to max everything with as few revocations as possible, leave one class' unique tree empty so you can max it on the second go around.

    12 classes x 200 skillpoints per class = 2400 skillpoints
    26 skill trees x 100 points to max a tree = 2600 points

So you'll be exactly 200 away but, if you maxed out all the unique trees, you'd end up being 300 points away and getting only a net gain of 100 new points.

So for those of us who just want to play the main game, and really don't plan to sit and grind out all 2600 points, should any of this matter to me? Can I bet the game making thematically fun, yet not completely retarded, point distribution decisions?

Note: I haven't finished the game, but I feel comfortable saying powergaming and min-maxing like this doesn't matter one whit for the "main" game. Any sort of necessary grinding or extreme difficulty is relegated to postgame content and the random dungeons from grottos and treasure maps. If you don't care about that—which is pretty much where I fall—then just play, have fun, put together teams at will and dress your dudes up like giant slimes and bunny girls.

Based on what most people have been saying in the first thread, any modicum of really digging into the skill-point system pretty much cracks the main game wide open for abuse. A lot of people have been walking through the game with ease because they spent time grinding up skill points and layering a lot of the classes' passive abilities.

Fans are Fun? I have a both a claw user and a fan user, though both only have about 30ish points into their respective weapon abilities. The ability for fans to reflect breath attacks has been pretty useful on bosses. But really, I just picked those 'cause one is a "dual class" minstrel martial artist who is a seductress killer with fans. The other is a wolverine type brawler who flips back and forth between thief and martial artist.

I usually just think of a backstory to each character and make the choices based on that. I'll probably have to revise that if I do the post-story stuff, but for now its worked well enough so far.

    Edit: Yeah, what Lunker said.

Layering passive abilities doesn't let you just walk through the game with ease, I'd say. I had some trouble on the last 5 bosses because no amount of skill investment will protect you when your priest gets one hit critted to death (happened to me like 3 times) and Zing refuses to bring her back. I had everyone partway through gladiator, warrior, martial artist, and thief and I still got wiped a time or two.

No, the only thing to worry about as far as breaking/abusing the game is if you learn the paladin skill Forbearance. That is the only complete game-changer, everything else is just extra nice things to have, like making metal slimes easier to kill and such.

Even Forbearance isn't fool proof. When your paladin protects the whole party from an AoE attack and get hit for more than his HP, you'll suffer no matter what.

Learning Forbearance and (ab)using it are two different things. I only "needed" it for one boss -- which wasn't the last one (but I thought it was at the time). Since then I've only used it when I had Knight Watch up (because that's just hilarious) and when I was taking my underleveled mage out to earn the Sage class (because it's two less "clicks" than Whipping Boy; my other characters were in no danger from those trolls).

Zing is some bullshit, however. I hate that spell with a fiery passion.

Maybe I'm starting to reach that point now; I just got to Swinedimples and now am facing more criticals. I've only done a bit of building-up—maybe taking each character through Lv. 12-ish of another class or two—but so far I've been able to dance through everything pretty easily. The last boss I fought (in Gleeba) wasn't too bad to worry about.

I can see the allure of accidentally powerleveling too far, though; every time I get a new class I want to try it out! I have my Mage swapped over to Armamentalist just to see if I like it, but I don't know; no direct damage spells, but he does get to wear better armor and use swords if he wants to—but then again, I've been focusing on wands, so the +60 MP is hard to give up.

I do wish the game pulled a DQ3, and KEPT spells you learned permanently. Would make going priest, then mage, then sage or paladin even more sick.

edit: To clarify, in DQ3, when you gained spells as you leveled up, you kept them during class change. A level 50 priest turning into a Level 1 martial artist kept half the stats of a Level 50 priest and all the spells of a level 50 priest. So what most people did was went Hero, Melee character (Warrior or MA), Priest, Mage, then the second they could, switched the Priest/Mage around, then went back for Sages later.

In the remakes, the best way to go was Hero, Thief, Merchant, Goofoff. Thieves got a few special spells, Merchants got extra money from combat (vital at the start of the game) as well as the ability to summon a store and an inn anywhere, and goofoffs could turn into sages. Then you switched between thief and merchant, getting the special spells, then switched them to goofoffs just until 20, wherein you switched them to sages. Later, MUCH later, you changed them to Warriors and/or Martial Artists.

I once started a game with Hero and 3 Merchants. It was glorious. The amount of extra money was sick.

Think I am going to go claws, because they seem to be the most pure physical damage, and I am going to make my MA a Tension damage pimp, so I might as well use the highest damage weapon for MA's.

Is the breath reflect just an inherent fan property, or is it a skill in the fan list?

Active skill you have to trigger, and it lasts for maybe 4-5 turns. It comes in handy, but MAs also don't get too much MP natively.

Honestly, I can't see much of a difference in damage for single target weapons straight up attacking. It seems to me that all the weapons have the same damage boosts (IIRC) one crit up, and 3 +damage boosts (+10, +20, +30). Are the main differences in damage are in the weapons themselves? Or in the weapon specific abilities?

If you're going to use it on a Paladin, you're going to need to get Fans to 100 anyway, because Paladins can't equip fans naturally so you'll need the Omnivocational Fanmaster skill at 100 points.
