I agree, and when my wife walked by and saw me looking at two guys kissing.... she said "I just don't feel any spark."

Either we are through, or she agrees too :!:

It needs passion or some coyness to the expression

I think it needs some head tilt. It looks too... straight on. People dont make out with their noses aligned!

I think that one of them should be taking the lead, at least a little, so their overall gesture should be to one side. As it is, they're both standing straight up.

I also think guy-on-right's hands could be a little lower, or his arms wrapped a bit more firmly. Fingers in the hair, whatever. It's all good, but they need to be more involved with each other.

Obi, I like that overall, but while the tracer rounds (laser fire?) in the bottom half resemble "reality" to a degree, the white dotted lines in the top half are totally unbelievable

I feel it would be much improved without those and those polygons near them

I agree, Wassermelone that is awesome. Though i reckon it would lok better if you painted the building texture. photo looks a little out of place atm.

doodle sketches i did today. The man is a gambling addict and his wife is pissed that she has to wait for him outside the casino. meanwhile a police car drives past about to ping her for standing in a no standing zone. What a bad day.

My one caveat is they really really similar facial structures and some variety in that aspect would be cool.

Aside from the arms and legs being proportionately unruly im just finding it impossible to get the kind of brushstrokes I want, all my pics look so flat and samey.

I think I need to start doing simpler pics, focus on anatomy and simply textures rather than overreaching with these kind of images I never finish.

I was sketching my eraser pen, then this happened:
    spaceshipc.jpg

Only problem is that this is the first time I tried including the lighting in a sketch, and didn't know what to do with the parts I added or changed. :(

That means I need to start including light and shadow every time so I don't get stuck in the habit of drawing flat things, and so I learn how light works.

Yeah I suck at lineart. It takes me 10 times longer to do a clean line drawing than it does to just paint the damn things.

Huh! Cool. Thanks for the post.

I like spending a good portion of time on the lineart, because it's makes the final easier for me to do. 'Specially when I can use the clean pencil linework for the final's inks. :)

Now youre just showing off wakkawa :)
you should try your process with oils. could get some nice effects.

heres a wip painting of Tony Abbott.

Im still at a bit of a struggle with oils. the more i paint, i get to a point where im removing the paint from the board. could be a sign of my lack of applying the right colour straight away, or im working too thick... hmmm.. guess ill just keep at it and see where it goes.

    2yklu75.jpg

early block in with brunt umber. didnt push it far enough, nor wait for it to dry enough.

WCK, are you painting wet-in-wet, or allowing the layer to dry before moving on to the next layer? If you're rubbing off the previous layer of paint...you need to wait until the previous layers have dried before painting on top of them.

At the moment id say im working fairly wet. The underlayer dried well enough (though i may have rubbed it off), but its the layers after that which i find rub off.

On other paintings id use a drying medium to allow a layers to dry quickly, but after i noticed that it dulls the pigment, ive avoided using them this time around. Only prob it takes too long to dry.

I love oils, its a great medium. But its definately not practicle for working fast. Not that i need to work fast anyway.
