So I bought an iPad today. It's pretty awesome, and I'm really digging it so far, but what are some good games to buy? I already picked up canabalt, and it looks really fantastic on the big screen. I'm thinking of getting plants vs. Zombies as well. I'm looking for easy multiplayer stuff, to play with friends and to show it off, and some more 'hardcore' games, like canabalt. Also, are there any must-have apps out there?

    Angry Birds HD!

I think so too. but if you factor in multi-tasking, then i'm not sure if the performance will be any better.:?:

It doesn't actually multi-task per se. It frees up any unused memory as soon as it is actually needed and then provides a quick swap interface between previously opened applications.

I find it to be more of a pain in the arse than anything although I appreciate the backgrounding for Spotify.

Oh and I picked up Chopper 2 today, really great fun little helecopter arcade game. Looking forward to getting home and trying out the iphone/ipad connectivity. I do love it when devs release universal apps, especially so for games.

EDIT: it's 40% off atm as well.

Virtual D-pad; I haven't tried any of the other Genesis ports but Touch Arcade's review seemed to imply it's the same emulation setup and controls for every individual game, like Ecco and Space Harrier. But any control funkiness is defused a lot in a turn-based game, where you don't have to worry about precision quite as much. I bought Shining Force instantly ($2.99), and the D-pad is indeed a little awkward but it's still freaking Shining Force. I'm pretty sure it's just a straight port of the Genny original, so none of the GBA improvements (which, IMO, neutered the game's difficulty so I'm glad the new stuff isn't in here). SF will always have a spot in my heart, as it was the first SRPG I ever played, and I still enjoy its simple, streamlined approach to the genre. It's no FFT or Tactics Ogre; it's more like Jeanne D'Arc, to pull a modern example.

I can endorse it without reservation for anyone who wants a solid, if not particularly complex SRPG. It does have some layers, though, like hidden characters and class changes, so it's not entirely dummied down or anything. I loved it as a kid, and I think for three bucks it's a great iPhone add. I bought it for $8 on Virtual Console, so half of that on a portable system is a no-brainer.

EDIT: The only real control quirk that chafes me is that for some reason there's no C button emulated. You don't really need it, but it was a handy shortcut button to talk, search, etc., so you have to do things the long way with the full menu and A button. Nothing that's a dealbreaker, but such a weird decision.

    Nice one :)

Fastar is really good fun, pushing for high scores (sometimes at the cost of stopping for upgrades) and working out how to handle different colour squares. Has that quirky indie/home made feel but with a professional level of polish.

Zombie Shock is ok but not as good as it's graphics. Highborn will have to wait until I'm not supposed to be working!

Xaviar if you can chuck up my openfeint, crystal and Plus+ accounts under AddaUK, then that would be great ty.

I just bought it, and had as much fun as I had back in the Genesis days.

This is still a solid game after so many years, and it's definitely worth re-playing it on your iPhone for $2.99

Okay. So I keep getting Iphone/Itouch games with all kinds of community features, and I have no friends, despite the fact that I talk to you all about them regularly.
This must change. So, I'm making a comprehensive list of everybody, and what their accounts are on the various services out there. What I've got now is just looking back a page or two, I'm gonna dig a bit more and see what I can find.

If I missed you, or missed a service that you have an account on, PM me, and I'll add you. Feel free to stick this post in your signature if you want to direct people here.

Hellsing's Fire is one of my favorite games on the iThing. I just wish there was more variety or more content or something. I breezed through it in about two hours and it just left me wanting more.

It hasn't grabbed me by the nuts like Angry Birds or Textropolis did, but it's really cool and I love the mechanic.

    Yes.

Unless my "cycle" is off, my poops are timed to happen in the morning before work and right before bed. If I'm sick or I eat at a different time of the day, I try and hold it till night time after my workout, after which I shower.
