They've definitely evolved the series, I know I'm waiting for the next one.

Got a six-parter in the works right now. There's a Lab involved (yes, with a capital "L") which is why the set is so long. I'm fairly certain I've actually found something worse than double LURK bloodsuckers.

    No, really. I mean it.

Research labs, normal research labs, are already filled with enough death-inducing items for a brief lifetime. For some utterly incomprehensible reason, the X series of labs includes all of the classic kill-items plus things like flying fridges, secret semi-invisible anomalies, poltergeists hidden in the ductwork, and my new all-time favorite hated thing.

You will see this hated thing and you will understand. And if you do not understand immediately, the incoherent fury-sound made by yours truly should make it clear. The floating fridge is also rather silly.

So Snarl, speaking of no more guys... does this game keep track of humans/mutants killed? If it does I'd love to see a end game tally of the death toll.

Ugh that lab. I didn't expect going into that building to lead to killing a few dozen hostiles plus delving into that horror of a building. I made it just far enough to nab the first set of documents then hauled ass out of there.

Actually, yeah, it does keep track of humans and mutants killed on the stats screen. Haven't checked it in a while, though.

And that one room was really awful. On top of that, it would be super-easy to completely miss due to the layout of the lab. It really doesn't help that the burers were apparently completely immune to bullets or explosives even if they were just looking at me. I know about the telekinetic shield they can make but it's only supposed to work when they actively use it, not at all times when looking at the player.

I could honestly have dealt with 3 LURK bloodsucker in that room more easily than those 3 burers. I'm just thankful there wasn't a haunted fridge in their as well. And I'd better have grabbed all the documents with all the looking around I did (although I don't think they really do much of anything).

In regards to THE ROOM, there's a bug there. Apparently you can only damage them when you are inside the room with them. IE, shooting through the door does nothing.

Also there are 6 documents I believe.

Yeah, all three games are available on Steam. And there's supposed to be multiplayer, but I've never even bothered loading it up. It's not co-op multiplayer; basically just deathmatch-type stuff.

Gameplay-wise, that's up to the player. Unless you get really, really lucky, you can't do stuff like charge into a room with 5 wary enemies and survive. The gunplay is pretty serious and you gotta play smart if you want to survive. There's a lot more, but there's a whole STALKER game thread with that sort of stuff. I also have LPs of the previous two games in the second post of this thread so you can check those out if you want to see more gameplay.

It's definitely a unique series. Even if you just get the first game, Shadow of Chernobyl, all the different mods means you're getting something like 3 different games.

If you REALLY don't want to pay a massive twenty bucks for the game, you could always just wait until the holiday Steam sales. I think I've seen Shadow of Chernobyl for as low as $2.50.

But even at the current price, you're basically getting 2-3 full games for the price of a cheap game. COMPLETE, Oblivion Lost, and LURK all make enough changes to make a couple of different games on their own. Just don't play straight vanilla Shadow of Chernobyl; it's rather broken without any mods.

It doesn't matter if you get all the documents or not, but if you're gonna try to find the last few, bring the gauss rifle, 40mm grenade launcher, or something else that does an insane amount of damage in one hit. There's 3 god damn burers deeper into the complex and they have the entire universe's supply of hit points.

This series really is my favorite all time set of games ever made. The atmosphere just sucks you in and the games are not easy. I'm a sicko though and play on Master, even with mods on top that make the guns more accurate and realistic feeling in general (which works both ways. Better watch your ass Stalker).
    No worries.

Yeah, the STALKER games are definitely unique. I've heard rumors that the next STALKER game will be made uses a Crysis engine and that would be completely spectacular.

Where'd you hear that? I haven't heard any news about a new STALKER game.

Like I said, rumors I've seen here and there about GSC wanting to use CryEngine or already licensing the use of Cryengine. I have absolutely no verifiable information on another STALKER game, but CryEngine is sophisticated enough to cover both the large maps of the STALKER series as well as use spectacular lighting. As a bonus, it also does a great job of dealing with physics objects so we could end up with destroyable buildings and whatnot. The ballistics are good, too.

The Xray engine was old before Shadow of Chernobyl was even released. What GSC has managed to do with it is pretty incredible, but I'd rather see them use another better-optimized engine than develop another Xray engine along with all the assets for a new game. Crysis is labeled as needing a pretty beefy system but I can actually run it on higher settings while recording full-size video than I can basically all of the STALKER games.

There are 6 documents, but they aren't super critical. I think the only one that's really super useful is the one on item 62 as I think maybe it helps Cardan repair the gauss gun. And you got that one.

It would seem I wasn't paying enough attention because one moment I'm cheating my way through an awful puzzle and the next, BAM, the game is over. Really, I was quite surprised at how quickly the game comes to an end. I still liked it more than Clear Sky's ending, though, because at least it isn't just one huge string of bullshit 10-to-1 fights with grenades constantly pelting you.

Anyway, yeah, Strelok shows up again. No, I don't have to kill him. For those who don't know, you actually play as Strelok in the first STALKER game and uncover the secrets of the Zone. He's still doing the same sort of thing except now he's trying to get info to the military to get the Zone under control. Also in this set is something like 30 minutes of taking measurements chopped down to something like 2 minutes of worthwhile video (IT WAS SO BORING) and finally discovering the location of the Oasis.

Other than that, this is basically the last set of the STALKER: Call of Pripyat Let's Play. Rather than post my final thoughts now, I'll give people some time to see the ending for themselves in case they haven't played the game. That way they'll have a better idea of what I'm talking about later. Considering I've spent right around 9 straight months do LPs for the STALKER series, I'm kind of sad to see it all done with. Not so much because I won't be doing any more LPs (Crysis is next on the list), but because now there are no more STALKER games I haven't played. Oh well, it's been good times and hopefully we'll eventually get another STALKER game before too long.

    Set 16 - Strelok! Buddy!

He is also dead. His body is just south of Oakpine. It's very hard to spot and the only reason I found him was I ran into a spoiler on it whilst searching for possible spawn locations for Koloboks. You've actually stared right at it (from a distance) when you were first there artifact hunting.

I can't think of anything you really missed, aside from the final set of tools, and honestly those are optional.

Great game, I really like the improvements they made and the new anomaly system and repairs/upgrades. Definitely excited for another one, hope they make one.

So I was starting to go into STALKER withdrawal there for a bit.

    Then, new set! :)

But it's the last set.

Does anyone watch this and feel like it's the main character walking around talking to himself? Like the start of this set, the colonel walks up to Garry and says "Zanton! I've got to get that name right!" O_o

By the by Ninja, if you make another set... could I see that tally? I'd love to know how depopulated the Zone has become in the colonels time there.

You kind of skipped past it, but tell me that 'defend the scientist' thing with the swarm of boars and flesh wasn't annoying. I swear, that might have been my most hated part of the game. (aside from the room of three burers)

I should've put it in the last set, but in the meantime I've got a note to include it if I make a bonus set. Surprisingly, I probably killed fewer bandits in CoP than in any other STALKER game by a wide, wide margin.

And yes, escorting the other Stalkers for the measuring was a terrible mission. It really took around 30 minutes because they're just so slow. The worst part is that there was so little danger that enemies getting close enough to make the Stalkers stop working was more of a concern than actually getting hurt. Aside from the one spot where zombies spawned literally ten feet in front of my face and the stupid fast-travel directly into burers bit, I didn't take a hit for the whole sequence. I skipped past it because it was just plain boring, both to play and to watch.

Also, Zanov, Zaton, tomato, tomatov. It's all the same to me. By which I mean it drove me crazy that I could never get the names right.

And I still hate those bottles. Smug bastards.

The reason that the Burers seem to have so many hitpoints is that they project a telekinetic shield in front of them that makes them immune to bullets as long as they know you're shooting at them. You have to break line of sight and surprise them to actually shoot them at all. Close up with a shotgun works pretty well but don't keep firing after you hit them once. Also if they're trying to throw shit at you they're vulnerable but they can change states pretty quickly.

Yeah, I've known about the TK shield since way back in Shadow of Chernobyl when Oblivion Lost added them back to the game. However, the shield is kinda weird in that it's pretty tough to tell exactly when it is active unless you've got a constant stream of bullets heading towards the burer. Between the TK shield, the weak melee attack, and the burer tendency to pull weapons out of your hands, I stick with stabbing them to death rather than wasting a lot of time and bullets. But aside from the one room with 3 burers (which was apparently bugged so you couldn't damage them unless you were in the room), bureres usually aren't much of a problem.

Also, anyone have any suggestions for a bonus set? Unlike the last couple of games, the camp areas are sealed off so you can't really go crazy and kill anybody. Aside from pulling up the final body count, I really don't know what to do for a bonus set. Call of Pripyat does a much better job of letting you get the Zone to a "complete" state, but it also means there are no hippie compounds to raze of rookies to toast.

Thanks. I really did make it a priority to try and show off the Zone in a coherent fashion without having to show all the running around.

I haven't had a chance to check out the Fallout 3 LP yet, but I'm actually pretty glad I never really considered doing an LP for that particular game. Even with something like 100+ mods installed on a repeat playthrough (I've already played it before on the 360), I really just could not get the game up to a state which didn't simultaneously make my eyes bleed (SO MUCH BROWN) and make the gameplay not leave me unsatisfied. I don't think it's a bad game, but it just has some design choices which really, really don't mesh well with me.

Not to mention the map is HUGE and anyone doing an LP for it could probably make as many sets for Fallout 3 alone as I have for all three STALKER games altogether. I'd rather watch somebody who really enjoys the game doing an LP of all that rather than forcing myself through an LP of it.

Well, here is essentially the final nail in my STALKER LPs. There wasn't really anything left for me to even do in the Zone, but the first minute or so of footage show my stats for the very very end of the game since some people were interested in those.

Otherwise, this is basically just me talking about the STALKER games on their respective startup screens. As I mention, these videos are more of a test of Windows 7 in preparation for the Crysis LP than they are for anything interesting. I just give some thoughts about the series in retrospect and frankly, you could skip everything after the first minute of the first video and not miss anything whatsoever. Even that first minute isn't a big deal.

Oh, but for those who don't know, it has been confirmed that GSC is indeed working on another STALKER game. I didn't know this, but apparently the STALKER series has sold over 4 million copies spread across the three games (which is pretty awesome for an Eastern-European company with 2 of its 3 games as buggy messes). So we can all look forward to at least one more STALKER game which I believe is slated for later in 2012.
