Looking for an odd song.

So, today I was at a Nordstrom and they were playing a song I'd heard before.

It was basically a series of repeating beeps or tones, maybe with some drums in the background. The pattern was three rising tones followed by four falling ones. It never really varied, at least from what I heard, and the song had no lyrics, though the tones sometimes sounded closer to whistling.

I can't remember where I heard it before, possibly on one of the bumps during Adult Swim.

I realize this is a real shot in the dark, especially because it's hard to describe music without lyrics, but if anyone happened to know what I was talking about, I'd be grateful.

Probably not it, but there's this song by The Cure that your description reminds me of, though I can't think of the name. At least I think it's The Cure.

Edit: The song is Close to Me.

Three quick beats, then a short break followed by four quick beats, repeated for as much of the song as I heard.

I'm not sure if there was anything more to the song, but it didn't seem like it.

It had a very electronic/techno sound.

It reminded me a lot of the songs Adult Swim uses for their bumps, which is why I think I might have heard it there first.

I've been looking through some of them, but so far to no avail.

This is the closest sounding one I've heard so far, but it's not it exactly.
It had less effects, I think.

It didn't seem to be anything more than a repeated jingle, really.

    It was simpler than that.

Three beats, then four, with some drums in the background.

    No lyrics to speak of.

Even if this thread doesn't turn up the song, though, it's at least showing me some great music.

What do those beats sound like? Very Electronic? Guitarish? What would you compare that specific sound to.

They were high pitched electronic sounds. They sounded a bit like whistling to me.

This fits the bill, rising tones, lowering tones, fast beats, slow beats. Morning Bell, by Radiohead. You may have been listening to a remix, or perhaps a track with the vocals removed. Here are a couple of versions of the song.

the way you describe it makes me think it must be something simpler like Royksopp. You should go check out some of that, it might be what you are looking for. Not that familiar with it to suggest a song though.

Definitely less rockish. It had a very synthesized sound.

The main focus of the song was the repeated tones. There were drums, and possibly other instruments, but they were fairly soft. I'm not really experienced with music, but it sounded very clean to me.

The rhythm was something like 1-2-3 (pause) 1-2-34

I don't know if it was much of a dance song, but it seemed like it could be mixed into another song fairly well. I didn't hear the whole thing from start to finish, so I don't know how long it is, but it repeated itself for a while.

For some reason that's telling me I'm tapping out Jimi Hendrix.

I'm thinking I might not find it.

Oh well, still found a lot of good songs in the search.

Searching for the Nordstroms playlist pretty much brings up nothing. I guess you could go ask the store manager where they get their music from and then look that up. It is probably Muzak or somesuch. If they have a CD even better, because you could probably just look that up.
