Wait, one of the pre-purchase bonuses is 24 hour earlier access to the game? Since everyone gets it, doesn't that just mean that the game is really launching 24 hours earlier than it says?
The Worms Game used to be Worms: Armageddon for the PC. Nowadays it's whatever has the most player base.
I remember when there was this program called the Fiddler, where you could basically design your own weapons, like a minigun that shot poison donkeys that rubberbanded across the landscape and exploded into 20 kamikaze worms which exploded into rocket bananas that homed in on enemy worms and set them on fire forever then punted them 10000 feet into the air with zero gravity before exploding into 400 holy hand grenades which crashed the game
Or the landmass strike where a flying fat guy dropped 5 entire landscapes on top of your landscape that bounced right above each worm's head a hundred times a second before exploding into a five minute fireworks display of every sprite in the game and ended up causing 1 damage to everyone
I used the shit out of that. Made a baseball bat that didn't end your turn until the timer ran out, did 1 damage, and caused no throwback or launching. It's name? The Rodney King. :P
Also made a Biblemageddon. The irony was indeed quite delicious.
I remember in Worms 2, if you could jump backwards correctly, you'd end up behind (like, depth-wise, not actually behind) the worm you were trying to jump onto, instead of on top. You can then drop a cluster right at your feet, and run. When the cluster goes off, every cluster spawns right inside the worm you were hiding behind, and BAM. Worm goes flying, like out of a canon. Instant kill.
Worms Armageddon was (or still is) the definitive Worms game, but it does have some issues nowadays with systems newer than XP. It does work, but you might have to do some elbow grease last I checked (even with the latest patch from '08, which is pretty good for a game coming from 1999).
If you know how to do this or have a link to some instructions, please share. I could never get it running on Windows 7 without all the colors inverted, and it would crash whenever I tried to boot the resolution to something properly substantial. This was after fiddling with compatibility modes and installing the beta patch.
Even if this new Worms is nothing other than Armageddon without all the fiddling around to install it, it'll be a pretty good deal.
Ok guys, given the level of interest shown, I've taken this up with marketing and I'm confident they will add this option to the pre order. Fingers crossed, watch this space.
We have listened to the requests for a four pack option during pre order and we have contacted Valve to implement that asap. Thankyou for your support.
Anyone from Europe interested in arranging a group for a "4-pack"?
I would be 59.97 / 4 = 14.99€ each one.
If there are 3 more people interested I could buy it myself.
Hi. I'm in the UK, I assume I qualify as Europe (not that my geography is crap, sometimes we just get excluded from these things).
I submit that WWP was not different or new. Still, I loved the game, chiefly because I never owned Armageddon.
Still, I do think that if Team17's idea of a great new innovation is Worms 3D, then yes, they should absolutely just stick to refining their pre-existing formulas as much as possible.
I agree--I got the most fun out of Worms 1 on the Playstation, to be honest. Banana bombs really meant something, and I swear levels were randomized better.

@gamefacts - Totally and utterly true gaming facts on the regular!
Only versions I have at the moment are for my Phone and the original XBLA release.
That one with the arms race is my favourite.
Will probably still buy it just because it's Worms and there will be loads of active players for a few months.
But you're all terrible people for not linking the WWP theme.
It may not have any fancy lyrics, and it may have been from a game that basically identical to Armageddon
But damn

Did that all the time. People hated me.
I had it on the Gamecube, and it actually seemed like about as good as a 3D Worms game could be on a first attempt. And I hear Worms 4 is better?
So bought.

Like making it actually run out of the box on modern systems.
EDIT: Sorry, I am out: A friend has gifted me the game this morning

Alien Breed on XBLA is different but still the same IP of old. Cmon Team 17 bring out something DIFFERENT and NEW!
Because they'll do stuff like Worms 3D.
And Worms World Party. I just did not like that game.

Bought a four pack and gifted them all to my friends.
I loved World Party in the old days so much. My grenade-throwing abilities were the stuff of legends and ragequits among my friends :P.
Worms 1/plus had the screen shaking and debris flying everywhere with every explosion, it was madness.
like, tomorrow morning
dammit!
