WW is fairly sickening in many ways, although the graphics are in fact better than those of two thrones

Really? Sickening? The writing is bad, his voice is bad, but the platforming is not too far from equal to the others

It's the writing, VA, sound design, bugs and a few things that just seem like bad ideas that make it sickening to me. The platforming's fine, sure, but honestly I don't just love Sands of Time because I got to jump around like a crazy person. The platforming is the one thing they didn't fuck up between games, but I don't think it saves it.

I tried this game out recently but it felt like they'd lost a lot of the fluidity in the Princes control and animation. Going to give it another shot at some point but it just rubbed me the wrong way.

So I played some more of this, finally. I grossly misjudged the combat. After I picked up some more of the story abilities and noticed some of the other combat moves you have, it really grew on me. It kind of blends Arkham Asylum's freeflow with SoT's acrobatics, and builds on the crowd control from both those games. The combat controls are still looser than I'd like, and some inputs have a weird random lag sometimes, which is really sloppy, but I'm having a fantastic time with it.

I've been spoiled by God of War. I loved Forgotten Sands platforming but the combat was mediocre at best. They should've worked power attacks into the regular combos more and there's only one ability you'll need the entire game (Stone Armor). I do love the whole crowded rooms and jumping from foe to foe but the combat as it is lacks a certain oomph.

Personally, I can't stand God of War, and the misconception that that was what Ubisoft was aiming for here is what originally turned me off of it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they did something more deliberate, because I honestly didn't expect it after the first few battles, since it took me a little while to realize the impales, vaults, and other situational abilities were tucked away in there. Still miss SoT's defensiveness, but this style of offensive crowd control does compliment the game better than I thought it would.

I'm finding the armor completely unnecessary, since I'm rarely taking damage. The wind power is a good plan B for letting yourself get surrounded. I'm finding that kicking dudes off cliffs, wall-kills, vault-slashes, vault-kick -> impales, and liberal use of the wind dash is supremely effective. And severalfold as fun. Especially vault-kicking a dude into a crowd to knock all of them over, then immediate roll -> impale -> roll -> impale for two nearly instant kills. I just wish the autotargeting on the vault was better.

Of course, I really like Devil May Cry, so that has a lot to do with my playstyle.

I hereby resurrect this thread to share a rumour with all of you. What is that rumour I hear you ask?

Well, it concerns the potential release of the Prince of Persia trilogy.

Yep, there's a possibility that Ubisoft are gathering the first three Sands of Time PoP's into a collection. It's not confirmed, but I've got my fingers tightly crossed in the hope that this isn't someone playing a cruel trick.

Question - did anyone grab the PSP version of this? I've heard good and bad things about it (good being they changed it to a side scrolling game instead of trying to make the 3d platforming work on the system, the bad being some really, really, absurdly, ridiculously tough platforming sections and dull combat), and I was wondering what any of you guys thought of that version.

I'm guessing it might be for the whole Trophies/Achievement thing

Sony obviously would let them have a full Trophy set and Platinum for each (evidenced by GoW and Sly Cooper).

I can't imagine MS letting them put 3000 Achievement Points on one disc.

WW gets so much hate that it makes me sad. Combat was far better than SoT, and the Dahaka sequences were amazing.

And yes, the stealth kills in tTT were excellent. The boss fights were pretty crappy (maybe just the one), but everything else was awesome. Even the Dark Prince. So much better than the Sand Wraith shit in WW.

I can't imagine they'd not release a game due to achievements. That would easily qualify as one of the stupidest decisions in the history of gaming.

It doesn't even make sense since they're something MS mandates, not the companies. Why would Ubisoft give two shits how many achievement points you earn for each game? They'd just put them in for smaller increments instead of 1k for each game. Problem solved. To say they wouldn't release the game for the 360 because they can't have 3000 gamerscore is just nonsense.

    Agreed, Monger

Combat in WW gave you more to do, but there was nothing better about it. They took the least-favorite part of the previous game and made it a bigger focus, awesome.

Combat? Not why I play a goddamn Prince of Persia game.

They made it far less tedious. SoT combat was just lunge off the wall-> dagger over and over and over until the warping in enemies stopped coming. Fighting 20 enemies in the same exact location in the same manor gets really boring. WW for starters minimized the enemies in a given location. SoT also had the absolutely horrendous elevator sequence where your idiotic AI partner can die and thus causing you to fail. People always bitch about escort missions and yet SoT has one of the worst. Excuse me while I just stand here and get hit. Oh, and if you help I'll just get hit by the warping enemies that follow you. Combat was never great, but SoT beat you over the head with its crappiness.

Yes. This. SoT's combat was the precursor to Assassin's Creed's combat. Sure, you could sit and counter or wall/dagger over and over, but it takes forever and is boring. You have the tools at your disposal for efficient, elegant, strategic fights. If you chose not to use them, that's not the game's problem.

Warrior Within's combo system was nonsensically arbitrary and its enemy design was abysmal and it raped my mother.

Wall/dagger is by far the most efficient. It knocks down the guys who always block in one hit and the dagger finishes them. You guys are imagining a completely different game in your head.

    I didn't say it wasn't stupid

But not releasing a 360 version for no real discernible reason qualifies as even more stupid

There's no way they could get all three games on one 360 disc, unlike blu-ray.
Sure, they could just pack in three discs, but they'd proabably have bigger cost issues with it.
Blu-ray makes all these last-gen compliations a lot easier for the PS3, just from a storage viewpoint.
I'd like to see it on 360 (I still prefer the controller far more more to the PS3), but I'd understand if it didn't happen.

They did fit the games on 3 gamecube discs, so all three can fit within 5.2 gigs.

Also, cutting out extra FMVs like the making of stuff.
