The [Nostalgia Thread] - In Which 80s/90s Animuus Are Discussed
Posts
it was shit and I went back to magic, then gave up on that within 6 months when I realised how retardedly expensive it was
kpop appreciation station i also like to tweet some
You cannot imply that those mere pieces of plastic can compare to an electricity-generating mouse fighting a fire-breathing salamander.
I refuse to acknowledge the legitimacy of such a claim.
The first three seasons were pretty good as entertainment for kids, and I don't mind going back to watch them every once in a while.
But yeah, the anime can't really compare to the games/TCG.
EDIT: Though the TCG was confusing as shit. Seriously, eight-year-olds can barely understand basic math, how are they supposed to understand Energy tokens?
Faynor, there really was candy in the van, you just weren't looking hard enough.
I tried getting into the TCG, but the guys who played it regularly were way too fucking good.
I actually owe those guys a thank you in hindsight.
Nostalgia - Do videogames count? Because Lego Island was my life.
Yeah, they do.
That reminds me, Super Star Wars...
I could never get past Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back.
I'd always ask my parents for help, but I'm pretty sure they had no idea what they were doing.
Then there was Contra, which I would always play co-op with my aunt, but we had to always use the 30 lives glitch.
On that subject, fuck the Laser Mines. You might as well just throw five of your lives down the toilet, and move on.
other than that specific thing the 90s were not any better than the 00s pop culture-wise (though they were obviously better than the fucking 80s)
are you trying to say forumlaic battles in an obtusely japanese gameworld are more interesting than distilled symbols from the depth of human mythology
Well, when you put it that way...
you guys are talking about digimon vs pokemon right
the answer is digimon had a better show while pokemon had an overall better franchise
youre welcome
edit: i mean pokemon i can at least begrudgingly understand the cultural significance of. i don't even know what digimon is
no more arguing
I'm more joking than arguing really.
Honestly, I don't remember Monsters In My Pocket all that well. Probably because I was too little to even know what it was about.
the first monster in my pocket toys were released six years before pokemon and digimon were even dreamed up. they are utterly different things
it was a magazine-style fantasy epic with an intense story and wicked illustrations, along with cards that you could compete with later on
i wish i knew where my old copies were but they were surely thrown out
jezz what alternate universe did you live in that these things not only existed but were comparable to poke/digimon in popularity
can you understand that? when you were playing pokemon i was failing to learn to drive and trying to fix my fucking pc so fallout 2 would run
GI Joes
Ninja Turtles
Trolls
Pogs
X-men
Power Rangers
Beanie babies
I'm not really sure about anything in between any of those, but I stopped watching kid's channels in 3rd grade or so, and only really cared about Ninja Turtles and Star Wars as a kid. I bet if I asked people I grew up with they would remember Monsters in My Pocket.
A lot of the digimon had better monster designs too
Until they started being all anime
when did that happen

whatever oldy-locks, if it aint been featured in a vh1 'i love the [x]s' episode than it might as well have never existed
Seriously, monsters should not have about 20 evolutionary forms.
When you have to start prefixing a monster's name with some obscure adjective, you've gone too far.
I'm not talking about Machinedramon, I'm talking about Ultra-Mega-Super-Weeaboo-Skull-Greymon.
seriously next you tits will start whining about all the themes of friendship in the show
IT SHOULD NOT HELP YOU DEFEAT A GIANT OTHERWORLDLY DEMON
NOMNOMNOM MY OWN DICK
If anything I'll whine about how the original characters turned into complete asswipes when they grew up.
No, Kai, shut up, stop being responsible, and go tell Agumon to turn into Greymon, and smash the complete shit out of some buildings.
But kids also gotta learn a little about despair
NOSTALGIA:
Nickelodeon, cartoon network, even disney.
For super nostalgia: Saturday morning cartoons
Escape Velocity, Mechwarrior 3, MUDs
Pokemon. I would kill a man to get the feeling back from the first games, not knowing what the pokemon were or why catching them involved vacuums. Also thinking teaching your charmander cut was a good idea
The move is called Cut.
It should be safe to assume that it should do more than 2 points of fucking damage.
HOLY FUCK YES.
mum would buy me a pack if i was good. oh man...oh man...
i had the bumbag, too.
AND MIGHTY MAX.
