SEGA Community Event @ PAX 2010 - Thanks to all PAX Attendees! We had fun!

Hey Penny Arcade Forums! Long time reader/lurker, first time poster.

My name is Julian Mehlfeld, I work as a Community Manager over at Sega and I wanted to extend an invitation to everyone on the forum to come by and visit our community event on Saturday, September 4th at 8pm. We're throwing an event that's completely free and open to anyone in Seattle - PAX attendee or otherwise. Doors open at 8pm and we'll be right across from the convention center at the Gameworks Arcade.

We have some fun stuff planned for the event; but it's mainly a chance for us to meet the Sega fans out there and play some arcade games after a busy day on the show floor. We'll have free food and drinks on hand, game time with the SEGA and non SEGA Gameworks Arcade, musical performances by Cash Cash (of the Sonic Colors theme song), and our prize giveaways.

4927871464_a58d33ff28_z.jpg

The raffle prize giveaways will include some really nice Sega goods from years past, present, and future. We have an image up of the whole lot, but will be breaking them into 20 prizes. The sweatshirt you see in the front will be included in each of the twenty giveaways - these are limited edition created just for PAX - we're quite fond of them :).

Hope you can make it out! We have an informal signup on our facebook page (here) that's optional - otherwise doors open at 8pm and it's first come first serve. We have the whole Gameworks space, so we're hoping to get a lot of fans in to have fun after the show!

If you have any questions - just post and I'll do my best to answer.

Update! I just posted a bit about our raffle on our blogs, including a very sweet replica Scarborough Fair Bayonetta gun!

Secretly I was hoping this wasn't gonna be posted here ;-)

Me and some friends will be there, as long as we can actually get in. With the Facebook page, Twitter, and now posted here I am beginning to worry :-P

The space is pretty big, of course I can't guarantee anything, but, it's the entire Gameworks, which holds a lot of people - so definitely come through :).

Oh don't worry we will be there one way or another, it was a definite thing as soon as the info was tweeted last week. If necessary I will just pop my head in and scream "Felicia Day is giving out free kisses across the street!" and stroll in after the stampede runs by.

Yep! My FIRST game console was the original Sega Master system. Anyone remember the snail game if you powered it on without a game in it? I believe that game changed depending on the version of hardware you had.

I also had a Master System 2 as the original met an untimely demise due to a dumb dog that didn't know the difference between video game goodness and food.

I spy a Dreamcast in there! My intro to 3D gaming with a thumb stick straight from NES. Lets not discuss the nightmare that was me effectively trying to make Rayman waterski. Definitely sounds like a blast, hope I can get in while the crowd is out looking for Felicia Day!

Hai. Which was pretty damn similar to a serial port anyway, if I remember correctly.

I miss my Dreamcast(s). The first one I had about 8 years ago broke after the legendary Night of 200 Fights wherein we played two-hundred matches of Soul Caliber. We wanted to see what would happen when the fight counter hit 100. Turns out it just rolled back to 1. After we discovered that, we decided to do it again. Dreamcast stopped playing the game after that and about 2 weeks later stopped playing anything.

My second Dreamcast was bought for me as a birthday present by my roommate and later stolen by his brother and sold to a game exchange for 8 dollars.

Look how long it took the internet to mature to a point where online console gaming is now commonplace. Those devices were in a way, ahead of their time.

Crazy to think the Genesis had online, it doesn't seem real.

Great to see the memories and nostalgia, hope to meet everyone at the event or the show floor!
