Playstation Store Thread - Use the New Thread!

Welcome to the Third Playstation Store thread!

Wherein we discuss things purchased/obtained/related to, obviously, the Playstation Store and Network.

In the same sentiment as the last thread, I would like to state that I'd love to see this continue to be a community project. If you have any info on upcoming PS Store downloads, please feel free to let me know either through the thread or PM, and I will add it to the OP. Also, if you'd like your PSN ID in the OP, please IM me or ask to included in the thread, with your PSN ID, region and whether or not you have a headset. If there's anything incorrect, let me know.

What's different?

The first Post will contain the PSN ID List and updates as usual, as it's just easiest to update that way. Hopefully with the extra space, I'll be able to just C/P without a ton of pruning like I've had to do in the past. I'm going to try leaving the Sales Info outside/above the spoiler tags, and have the rest of the two updates under them; See how that works. If it's too awkward, let me know and I'll switch it back.

The Games section, which will be the second post is, obviously, moved, but will also be expanded. Since I'll have a full post for the games alone to work with, my idea of putting up reviews for games (I've also toyed around with the idea of either a "New Games" section for the last update or two, or a Highlighted Game deal for it.)

The third post will be the expanded Guides and FAQ section. A lot of questions that I've seen pop up in the last thread, I will try to put up there so we're not repeating conversations.

Need some friends?

Need some help? We've got you covered!

    Guides
How do I buy things from the PS Store for my PSP?
Unco-ordinated recently covered this (I wasn't sure if people not knowing was a widespread issue), so I'll let his post here speak for him:
There's three ways to get PSP stuff. The first is to download it to a PS3 and then copy it across to the PSP, the second is to go directly online through a wireless connection and the third is to use the Media Manager.

Go to this website, download and install the Media Manager. Plug your PSP into your PC/Laptop and go to the PS Store within the Media Manager. If you don't have a PSN ID, you'll need to sign up for one.
I Wanna Get a Japanese PSN ID!

Well, that's not too difficult! Here's a couple of handy guides to help. A Video guide is behind the spoiler, and following it is a Step-by-Step Typed one for those of you who can't/don't look at youtube regularly!

Typed Steps for those who don't want to watch a video or something:
*) I advise to get a pen and paper for writing down what information you give (PSN ID and Password, email used, along with your security question and answer if you're so inclined.) It's not a necessary step. However, unless you can read Japanese (which if you can, you shouldn't need a guide) it will be incredibly difficult to recover your ID or password if you don't remember it otherwise.
    1) Go to the Users Slot and make a New User. Name doesn't matter, and it can be changed later.
    2) Sign into the new user.
    3) Go to the Network tab and select Sign up for Playstation Network.
    4) At the starting screen, select "Create a New Account" and then on the second screen, select Continue.
    5) On the third screen, change the country to Japan, which will automatically change the language to Japanese.
    6) On the same screen, skip the second slot (The language slot) and go directly to birthdate. A birth year of 1990 or below is advised, to avoid parental controls over what you can get on the store. The Month and Date thereafter don't matter, so pick any numbers.
    7) The third button (from left to right) is the Next button. Hit it.
    8) This screen is the User Agreement Screen. Get to the bottom row of buttons and again hit Next.
    9) This is your PSN ID and Password screen. The first slot is for an email address. It does not have to be a valid address. When you enter it, a screen will pop up; this is just informing you that this email address will be used for this account.
    10) The next slot is for your password. Any password that abides by the following rules is fine.
    - The password must contain at least six characters.
    - The password must contain at least one letter and at least one number.
    - The password must not contain a letter or a number used three or more times in a row.
    - The password must not be the same as your sign-in ID or online ID.
    - You must enter the password correctly in two fields.
    - Letters are case-sensitive.
The slot following is for confirming your Password, so reenter it.
*) The checkbox here is for saving your password. Up to your discretion.
    11) Last is your secret question. In the box provided, type whatever. If you want to try and write it down, just in case, go for it. Afterwards, hit next.
    12) Your PSN ID screen. As long as the ID you want is not taken and follows the rules below, it should be fine.
    - The online ID must be 3 to 16 characters and can consist of letters, numbers, hyphens (-) and underscores (_).
    - The online ID will be publicly displayed in the Playstation(R)Network.
    - Do not use any personally identifying information for your online ID.
    - You cannot change your online ID after it has been created.
You may have to attempt several IDs. After you do, hit Next.
    13) Name Screen. Enter whatever for the first and second boxes. The third is Gender, and is optional, so skip it if you like. Hit Next.
    14) The Address Screen. At the first box, enter five random numbers. At the second box, it opens a menu. Select the second option. For the four remaining boxes, insert whatever you'd like and then hit next.
    15) This is the Email Confirmation screen. Do not check the box. If you do, it'll send an email to your (possibly non-existent) email for account confirmation. Obviously, if the email doesn't succeed, you won't be able to use your PSN. Hit Next.
    16) This is the Final Confirmation screen. Just scroll down and hit Next. From there, you might be taken to the store. (You'll have to sign in first.) If so, look around or exit out if you like, if not, do whatever, because now you have a Japanese PSN!

    FAQ

    (Q) When does the store usually update?
    (A) There's odd nights here and there (Mostly late ones of the odd updates), but for the most part, the US Store tends to update around 5-8 PM EST. And the PAL Store tends to update around 3 PM GMT.

    (Q) Can I play all Minis on my PSP and PS3?
    (A) Most of them, yes, but not all of them. Tetris is probably the biggest example of this. (PSP-Only) It, like most things with PSN content is Developer-Reliant, so they have to make it work on both if they choose to do so.

    (Q) What about PSOne Classics? What can I play them on?
    (A) Most of the PSOne Classics (of this writing, there are 2 exceptions) are compatible with both PS3 and PSP. If you own both, you can have it on both platforms and even move your saves between the two platforms.

    (Q) Can I play PSOne games I have without buying them again?
    (A) Kind of. There is a PS3/PSP Connectivity function called Remote Play where you can play a PSOne Game from your PS3 on your PSP through the internet. It's not great, but it's workable. The PSOne game must be in the PS3 disk-tray to use Remote Play. Also note that some PSN games are also Remote Play compatible.

    (Q) I have a PS3, but no PSP. Can I still buy and play PSP games?
    (A) Unfortunately, no. While there is minimal PSP emulation on the PS3 (For Minis), it won't work for Full-Blown PSP games. Nobody knows if it is a thing that will happen.

    Got'cha covered on that one!

If anyone has other recommendations that aren't already on the list, let me know, even if it's something blatantly obvious, as I'm not really thinking about anything but fixing up the OP to be presentable for now.

Also, like last thread, if you're not in the PSN ID list and would like to be, post here with your info or PM it to me and I'll edit it in!

Edit: Also! Question for you PAL types. We've been over the fact that the US Store updates around 5-8ish PM EST, and I know we've covered it for the PAL store as well, but I've forgotten. So, anyone know a time range for the PAL store?

~3PM GMT I think. They usually post the Heads-Up about 3-4 hours beforehand.

As for recommended games, I think Joe Danger, Deathspank, Secret of Monkey Island: SE, Monkey Island 2 SE, Tales of Monkey Island and Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse all deserve to show up on that list. Castle Crashers and Shank I'd guess are pretty good too, though I haven't (and probably won't) bought them.

Firmware 3.42 is up. Basically all it does is block the thing we've been expecting Sony to block.

I bought Afterburner Climax earlier today. It's freaking awesome. Looks gorgeous too. Being able to select Afterburner II music (along with the "Fire!" sound effect whenever you get a lock) was a nice nostalgic nod. The more you play the game, the more "EX Options" you unlock (stuff like more lives, stronger guns, more continues, different speeds, and the like) that make the game easier if you turn them on. There are branching paths and secret levels as well.

I asked once in the last thread and didn't get a reply, so I'll give it one last shot before I give up - do any of you guys in Europe want to help me get Outrun Online Arcade (by buying it on an account and giving me the login details) in exchange for me buying you a similarly priced game or games from the US store and transferring it to you in the same manner?

Surely there is some European PS3 owner who wants to get ahold of Castle Crashers early, or Symphony of the Night, or Final Fantasy Tactics, or Dino Crisis, or Grandia, or Resident Evil 1, 2, or 3, or Silent Hill, or Suikoden, or etc etc etc?

On the bright side, if you've already got firmware 3.41 installed, 3.42 is a relatively small patch. They added this functionality in 3.41.

As for that last part, I would do it for you but a) I don't have much money and b) you'd probably want a UK account anyway (the NZ store's missing some good content because some publishers don't give enough of a shit to pay for Aus/NZ ratings). Maybe if you can't find anyone, you should just try to find someone you can paypal some money in exchange for them buying a UK PSN card and emailing you the code?

Hmm... PSN won't take my credit card information. Is there a way to just do it on a website or something? I'm certain all the info was accurate so I don't no what the problem was. My account is signed up at my new address but my CCs are all to my parents still. Would that be a problem? Is it just easier to buy cards? Sorry new to the ps3.

Sony can be kind of picky when it comes to credit cards. I had to put in a few before it took an Amex card, of all things....

Does the billing address of the credit card contain an apartment # or something similar? I remember having problems with mine that was eventually resolved by (I believe) moving info that I would say normally goes on Address Line 2 to Address Line 1.

    Quantum Theory - shit

Sengoku Basara - fuck yes buy it

To elaborate on QT (hehe cutie how adorable) -- it's really underwhelming visually. It seems to run at 30FPS or less, despite looking worse than oh, say, Gears of War. Textures are really mediocre, animations are laughable, and the art design is up to you if you like/dislike it. Gun play is on par with Gears but much, much, MUCH less satisfying. The game didn't even explain itself when you begin (beyond showing the controls, which often doesn't help) and is kind of brutal for the difficulty without telling you what to do. The demo jumps sporadically in the story at the beginning and doesn't explain what's going on until after the first little area. I didn't bother getting past the second area, where they introduce the girl and throwing her at stuff. It basically becomes "okay, he's immune to your bullets, so throw the girl at him instead and then he'll die". Repetitive, unsatisfying in multiple ways, and all around lacking. That's just my opinion though, and I'm sure someone out there will like it.

I can't say I speak for everyone, but I'm sure some people, like me, were only looking forward to Quantum Theory to see a cheesy Japanese take on the Gears-style cover-based TPS. Too bad multiple delays resulted in Vanquish coming in and stealing any thunder it could have hoped to have.

I still gave the demo a shot. I concur with Kaseius' assessment of the game. I will add that the big enemies aren't invulnerable to all guns. The rocket launcher takes them down pretty easily. But since they are the only enemies that seem to carry them, you have to use the girl-toss on at least the first one.

I wanted to like Sengoku Basara, but it's pretty much a "Just Press X to Win" game.

Man, you're crazy if you ever expected Quantum Theory to be good. It sounded and looked terribad from the moment it was announced.

Anyway, the update. Normally I'd be annoyed that some content wasn't put up on the Aus and NZ stores but Top Gun and Quantum Theory demo? I'll let that pass. Seriously awful update though.

I got a GoW: Ghost of Sparta code sent to me last week, though it was a US code so it's not on my proper account. I should really get around to using my PSP. MGS: Peace Walker and the aforementioned demo are sitting there just waiting to be played.

I never said I thought it would be good. But sometimes a game can still be entertaining even if it isn't that good. This game seems to fail even that.

Okay, cool. Thanks for checking, Vow. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a complete Disney pull-out that would've ended badly.

This is still pretty shitty, but I doubt anyone's surprised that Disney pulled something of theirs from being sold and obtained digitally.

The Emperor's New Groove does have some minor sound issues, and games have been pulled for that reason before (Spyro 2 on the PAL store comes to mind).

Spyro was more of a "This game is going to fuck your shit up" issue.
