Best Electric Toothbrush?

I have been thinking that spending a bit of cash right now on a high quality electric toothbrush instead of using 6-12 dollar disposable electrics from the grocery store will be better for long term tooth and gum health, and probably save me a bit on dentist visits. I just don't know which one I should get.

When I used to live with my parents I used to use a Sonicare and I know everybody raves about how good they are, but Philips isn't the only manufacturer on the block and am wondering if there is something better for the money out there?

So far I've seen these two recommended:

I always liked the family Sonicare, but I like the idea of the Oral-B one telling me if I'm brushing too hard and when it is time to replace the heads.

I use the Oral B Smart Series 5000, and I like it a great deal. Bought it after an older model I had gotten for free from my dentist (cool guy) gave up the ghost. Having the timer up on the wall to tell you when to switch to a different section of your mouth is handy, as well as the red "you're brushing too hard" light.

I've used electric toothbrushes from both brands and from my experience the oral b toothbrushes are better. I don't know if it's still a thing with sonicare but I always hated how their toothbrushes would shut off automatically.

I went to costco and got this, works great without all the overpriced fluff.

I'll put my vote in for Oral-B as well, I have been using the Sonic Complete brush for several years now and have no real complaints. Has improved my gums and kept my teeth cavity free.

Back when I was comparing the two brands the only difference I could find was price. The Sonicare ones always were more expensive than an equal model of an Oral-B.

Pro-Tip: Buy your replacement heads on eBay for a much cheaper deal then getting them in regular stores. Don't know about Costco because I don't shop there.

I love my sonicare. It shuts off after two minutes and pauses for a split second to let you know to move onto another area of your teeth.

I've got an Oral-B, which works really well. I just wish the heads weren't $7-8 a piece.
Not sure about buying them over Ebay though :P

Toothbrush still hasn't shipped, it's been just over a week. I sent the company a WTF email, and if it hits two weeks and status is unchanged I'm canceling the order.

    Just horrible.

Also it's now 2 weeks, and still hasn't gone past "ordered". I sent them another email and said if it doesn't change status by tomorrow, I'm doing a charge back.

I may be a it late for this but have had a very bad experience with a Braun Oral B Professional Care electric toothbrush. It was so powerful that within a six month period I lost my two bottom centre original front teeth plus two crowns and bridges...involving three and two teeth respectively fell out! My dentist advises Phillips Sonicare. Anyone else had similar experience? I need ammunition against the manufacturers.

Dhalpir, it's spam on a three year old thread. Ignore it.
