It was the tourists’ second day of being trapped in a cave with Gnomish terrorists, and things hadn’t been going very well. After the carnage of the night before everyone was on edge, and everyone was looking for a scapegoat.
“I think it was SnacksOnAPlane that shouted that Gnome stuff last night! I just know it!”
    “SnacksOnAPlane looked at me funny!”
    “I think I saw a disguise-o-tron in his pocket!”
Soon enough, SnacksOnAPlane was in the center of a circle of angry tourists all holding stones with pointy edges. He tried to convince them that he wasn’t a Gnomish terrorist and that he carried the disguise-o-tron because he was Plane-walker, but everyone assumed that he was lying so they killed him. As his body crumpled to the ground, his disguise-o-tron flickered off and revealed that he was, in fact, a Plane-Walker. After discovering that they had stoned someone on their own side to death, a wave of despair swept over the tourist.

Perhaps robothero was hoping to completely and utterly demoralize the tourists when he jumped out of the shadows and started shooting. They had just lost someone who was on their side, so losing a few more would really do them in. His first shot went directly through Serpent’s forehead, instantly killing him. When he fired his second shot at Ardor, however, the magical shield of “nice try, douchebag” materialized in front of Ardor and deflected the bullet. Unfortunately, the bullet ricocheted into Serpent’s pocket, and destroyed The Giant Magnet of Taking Other People’s Stuff. Robothero certainly wasn’t expecting that, so he panicked and ran off into one of the cave’s dark tunnels. The suddenness of the attack stunned the tourists, and no one ran off after him.

The tourists went to sleep that night with two of their own dead and an evil Gnome on the loose. The next morning, however, they were both overjoyed and disgusted to see that robothero had made his return, although not exactly in the same shape as they had last seen him. It seemed as if someone had chopped off his head and then cut up his body into tiny pieces, and then had arranged the pieces to spell the world ‘SUP?, with robothero’s head as the dot of the question mark.

The tourists also discovered that a few more deaths had occurred in the middle of the night. They first found that someone had stabbed quite a few holes through Abraham F. Hawk. Additionally, Plutonium’s throat had been slit, a pentagram had been carved into his forehead, and the words “I <3 DSDMT” had been carved into his chest.

    THE DEAD
    SnacksOnAPlane – Plane-Walker
    Robothero – Gnome
    Serpent – Human
    Abraham F. Hawk – Human
    Plutonium – Human

A Magnet was broken this round.

    Wow. Way to go, guys.

So I count two gnome kills, with one protected. Those could still possibly be random, but it's less clear. Then the mob kill, the vig kill, the monster kill, and the one cult kill as expected.

The monster killed a gnome, which is encouraging, and probably makes us our own second worst enemy, as by my money we just killed a seer.

    Yes.

    Fuck fuck fuckity fuck fuck.

The cultist now has gnome, half-gnome, plane-sailer (?) and human trophies. How many more do we think are out there? I'm guessing we might have a real seer, real thief, real vigilante (Heartripper/Gib Machine) and real guardian. Though not too certain on the guardian (Metagame on: I know Gnasty is aware of the issues with Guardians so I don't think he'd put two seperate ones in a single game.)

One of those specials/factions is likely down (snacks). I also don't think it's likely that we have a 'real' thief. That leaves 1-3 more deaths needed for giant dragon guy to eat our souls. I think 1 is the most likely number....

I'm betting it's more like 3. Both on a metagame that-would-be-too-easy level, and because I'm still thinking a plane whatsit is a seer, which would mean specials are races, which would mean at least a couple more.

And that would also make it more like three shots of 2/35, which are odds I'm okay with for now.

Well what specials do you think are left? With 3 giant magnets I'm guessing there is actually not a thief. If their is a guardian it and the shield owner should just protect each other and let the rest of us rot (not exactly). So, a vigilante and a seer is what looks like it's left. The Plane-Sailers are one of those....

Gnasty is the "half"-gnome the thrall? I don't know if this is something you're going to answer or not...

Okay, so it's just more metagame, but it's pretty boring to have a Spooky Secret List of Spooky Secret Specials which is really just a list of weird names for vanilla Phalla specials. There have gotta be at least a couple actually different ones, right?

It does stop us from making plans or exploiting synergies...which is the whole point of secret rule games.

We know snacks was a kinda special.
We know thorpe and robothero showed up different, I'd say it's likely thorpe was a kinda special, thrall perhaps.

So how many others exist? I think it's reasonable to say we have a vigilante. I think seer is also a good guess. I'm not certain how many more are plausible.

As for it being too early, I guess that depends upon how many of each their are. If only one "half"-gnome and one "plane-sailer" exist than that's pretty fucking unlikely for both to get hit (effectively) in the same night. I don't think we're facing a balance issue, I think we're facing a "Fucked by RNG/Inactives" issue.

Okay, so so far we've been pursuing a strategy of death by RNG. This is very similar to the gnomes' strategy of non-gnome death by RNG; both will lead to a gnome victory.

The problem we have is an unknown number of seers, an unknown number of vigilantes, and an unknown number of guardians. None of them have any way of verifying the others.

So here's what needs to happen. Two specials who know each other need to reveal themselves. We guard one, and vote the other one to death. When the other one is revealed, we'd all know if we can trust the one. That person still wouldn't have any way to verify specials that contact them, especially with one seer down, but it'd be a start.

Of course, that relies on the gnomes not being able to stack their kills, or colluding with the remaining cultist. Especially since who knows who has the shield now, or if there's another guard.

    [edit]
And, of course, with the inactivity it's entirely possible that we don't have any working special cells. Things do not look good for our heroes.

This isn't 100% true. Random kills are actually bad for the gnomes. If this game is fairly balanced then pure random should actually give each side a somewhat decent chance. The big thing about vigilante and village kills is that they come from the entire population instead of simply the not gnome population like gnome kills do. The simple inclusion of the gnomes in the target set has a huge impact upon the game.
The problem we have is an unknown number of seers, an unknown number of vigilantes, and an unknown number of guardians. None of them have any way of verifying the others.
You're entire plan is predicated upon the assumption that we have multiples of any given role. The only roles that we know have multiples are evil.

    To sum up: Holy crap.

You just advocated we use a village kill (our most precious and in fact only resource) to hit a guranteed special and to reduce our number of remaining specials by half?

Well we know for a fact that there are a least two thief-magnets left in the game, though obviously we have no idea whether or not they're in the hands of humans. Likewise I'm pretty sure from certain PM conversations that there are specials out there who can mimic these powers without items. We also know Ardor was tageted by the second gnome kill. Assuming the gnomes can't vote to kill one of their own (then shield him) as a ploy we can at least assume he's not a gnome, though that doesn't rule out cultist or mysterious third party.
