that is pretty much how it goes
occasionally ravensmuse or I will then mention how things used to be in 2nd edition
I keep my second edition jokes here mostly because I'm afraid I'll remember something wrong.
What's funny is that everyone remembers stuff about second edition wrong. Like, that's its defining characteristic. There will be these huge furballs on rpg.net as people fight over, like, the rules for bonus XP for classes with a 16 in their prime requisite and it always ends with someone going "wait, I never saw that chapter."
I've forgotten most of those rules.

Trying to run stock, straight from the book 2E was akin to trying to locate sunspots without mechanical assistance.
If you could do it, it would be the stuff of legend. But mostly we all just tried and wound up partially blind.
I know that, I wanted to know if he was doing it the hard way by mining it or he made a machine that directed lava and water together to automate the process.
Yes, I have a machine. Not really a machine though, more like a lava spring and a water spring connected by a channel. Still takes, like 30 seconds to mine each block that gets made.

2E was really a mess of a system but I am still really fond of the art and the writing style. A lot of people get nostalgic for Gygax's writing in the first edition but I find him bombastic and he does that thing autodidacts do where he'll use a twenty-dollar word in an awkward way in an attempt to sound portentous (calling a city a "habitation", for instance). Whereas Zeb Cook's writing in 2E was really clear and friendly and always got me fired up to play, even if I never remembered half the rules.

I love that it took ~2000xp to go to level two and a single orc was worth all of ten (divided by party size, of course). I don't envy the one crazy party out there who actually played by the rules and spent months killing a thousand orcs.
although maybe that is because they were doing everything under the hood
That and they fudged the fuck out of things, and were also using some new optional rules that were being floated by TSR/WotC at the time as a sort of stealth precursor to 3E.
I walked around, picked some flowers, fell in a hole and then some things killed me
That's fun but you can also punch trees to get wood blocks and then place them in the crafting area in your inventory to make plank blocks. Put one plank block in each of the four crafting squares to make a workbench which you can place in the world to get a bigger crafting area. Put two plank blocks on top of each other to make sticks, then make this:

Where P equals a plank block, S equals a stick and I equals nothing. It makes a wooden pickaxe you can use to mine cobblestone from stone which you can use to make stone tools (replace the planks with cobblestone).

edit: But I'd def. use Combat & Tactics.
Not Skills & Powers, however.
was baldur's gate 2e? it seemed sensible enough

League of Legends/I don't know what private means, if you mean its mostly PA people then yeah you can avoid random people sometimes/NO
