If all you want is to make black and white .gifs, there's always EZtoon
    http://www.superfundungeonrun.com/easytoon/

Of course I dunno what they added into PS's animation tools in the last...whenever it started being integrated into PS instead of being an ImageReady thing, so maybe it's less of a pain in the ass to do drawn animation with it now.

I think they ditched the stupid "each layer is a frame" thing in favor of a real timeline in photoshop. I dont know if it properly onion skins though. mensch, how does it work?

Cool that I can post this now, sux it didn't get picked though, so story is I entered this to ubisoft's open casting call for artists with regards to their assassin's creed 2 artbook, idea was to create an assassin that could literally be anything, as long as it was an assassin, and so I came up with this...

I like it, the legs are a bit peculiar though. They're flat and undefined, they really let the rest of the image down, which is a shame because I quite like it.

I would agree with both Mustang and Cake. The background is also very scrubby feeling - theres a lot of unpleasing texture being created by your brush strokes.

Otherwise I think its the best thing you've done to date.

And heres an older Tintin doodle.

So are you making this into a full sized costume? reason I ask is I have wanted to try my hand at that complexity of costuming.

Yep. I'm currently in the arduous process of learning how plate armor actually works and reading alot of armouing books before I start really planning things out. The whole thing will be made out of sheet styrene (plasticard) and formed with a heatgun/oven and riviting.
It'll probobly take me a year or more, but hopefully I can pull it off. I'll be posting process work as I go.

Well, a year or more part time. It's already been like, a month since I came up with the idea. Time compressed actual work, it'l probobly be few solid weeks/months.

This was inspired from going to a comic con in toronto and seeing way too many ugly-ass foam suits of armor. Or relativly well constructed suits, with horrible finishing (spray can of silver paint). I need to prove to these nerds that I'm better than them at being nerdy.

And also, I want a suit of plate armor.

If you're really trying to grab the chaos feel to it, you need bigger horns on the helmet and broader shoulder plates.
The closer it looks to not being functional, the better. I mean, some of them don't have horns on their helmets, but when they do they're usually huge.

Which is why it'll be a long design process. I have to see how much of a middle ground can get between the artwork, and functional armor, which is really fairly form-fitting.
My shoulders arnt 5 feet apart, and if I go the literal route and make giant pauldrons that are, it makes the whole thing look whacked out of proportion (and not in the good way). Literal translations of artwork to costume never work out, there always needs to be some redesign. I need to play around and see how much I can bulk up the chest and shoulders, without it making my limbs look like tiny twigs by comparison.

And I want it to be a fairly functional suit. I should be able to jump and jog in it without falling on my face, or the whole thing disintigrating. I hate awkward loking costumes where the person inside has to delicatly tiptoe around for fear of destroying themselves.

I'm not sure how I'm going to do the horns, but the little ones I can at least carve out of wood. Again, more designing to do. With a project like this, it's not just an aesthetic choice.

What about doing something like sculpting them out of clay, molding them, and then casting them in resin? You could hollow them out prior to molding to cut down the weight by a ton.

I change my mind. It's not a spaceship.

was just looking at the art of the Halo series. Although a very generic shooter in design (but still loads of fun to play) Bungie looks like a really cool place to work as an artist. I dont know what it is but their art looks like it would be fun to work on
