    Lame.

Tell homeland security this is why you are a flight risk, because you are super angry at them.

I can't see any possible way that that plan could have a horrible ending. None at all. It's perfect.

Stale why are you on the no fly list again

I tried to bring a small jar of BBQ rub on a flight a few years ago.

It had slightly too much cayenne pepper in it. "technically" classifying it as a chemical weapon.

I've been a Domestic Terrorist since. This year I was evidently bumped up from "security risk" to "no-fly".

I can still board flights but I need to have a TSA arch-pit-demon approve me at the airport. WHich means that at any point during my travel, I can be denied entry for any or no reason what so ever.

    That's fucking hilarious.

The mental image I'm getting of someone hijacking a plane with a jar of hot sauce is priceless.

From what I've been able to gather, the entire situation is a comedy of errors and people adhering to overly-broad rules.

Unfortunately, theres really no set in stone mechanic for getting OFF the list once you're on.

I've flown twice since I was "upgraded", and it wasn't terribly inconvenient. a few extra questions, a few extra searches. I'm sure there was a marshall watching my every step.

The only real bitch part of this, other than the looming possibility of having a schedule suddenly go tits up if a jackass TSA agent just feels like saying no, is that crossing the border is almost impossible.

While I can "probably" leave, it's "not a good idea" to try and return.

the no-fly list is a serious thing. If you're on it, you have to go through a lengthy appeal process to ever even be let near a plane again. They don't just ask you "a few extra questions."

Well, so long as you've got proof of citizenship, they can't refuse you reentry.
The only absolute and unqualified right of citizenship is to residence within the territorial boundaries of the United States; a citizen cannot be either deported or denied reentry.

    Here is what I know

I had to sign new statements and paperwork with the TSA and Homeland. They're basically a "waiver". They don't really tell you much of anything at all. Then the TSA agent that is running the particular circle-jerk ask me some more questions, usually about my past, lists a few addresses, one or two of which are not mine. Asks me about my employment, asks me about my immediate family, and then asks me why I'm traveling.

I assume this is to weed out if I'm not who I say I am, or if I've given false info previously.

Meanwhile my bags are emptied and searched, I"m wanded and swabbed, and then I'm put back into the security line and I'm free to go.

It basically adds about 20-30 minutes to my security check time.

Previously I was labeled as a "person of interest".

When I tried to fly back home a few months ago, I was denied at the ticket counter. I was then escorted to the same TSA rooms I was in a few years ago and went through the above. I was informed I had, in his own words, been "upgraded".

No explanation. No reason. Just "You're now on a list of people who can't fly without clearance first". He seemed to be somewhat sympathetic, but made it clear this wasn't something that was negotiable or going to change.

This was out of ATL. On my return flight from IL, I flew out of a very small regional airport. I had to call 24 hours in advance of my flight to ensure that an agent would be present.

He was, rushed through the above process, and I was sent along my way.

Trying to get any kind of info or explanation is usually met with, "I'm not able to discuss those with you right now"

From friends and friends of friends, I've gathered that is a giant clusterfuck and comedy of errors, that through changes of regulations and from some people being overly strict of regulations, has resulted in me ending up where I am.

Fact of the matter is this, my health sucks, and I'm broke, so I don't really see too much point in really raising a ruckus over it. I have no real intention to fly that much in the future, if I did, I would probably try to get a reasonable person to look at this and go "Ohh, this is stupid."
