    thanks all

here's my little illustration for the night:

    lunenburg_fall.jpg

    lunenburg_winter.jpg

couldn't decide whether or not I like Lunenburg in the fall or winter more, so I just went with both
technically all of the smaller boats would be out of the water in winter
but it sort of messed up the composition and it's getting late, so i might think of something else to do with that later.

obviously very inspired by 101 dalmatians :)

yeah sure tam, i'll do it tomorrow though cause i'm tired of photoshop for the night haha

man, lunenburg is pretty much the cutest town in the world, it really lends itself well to this style.

I lied, I wanted to edit this stuff now cause I want to do more illustrations tomorrow:

I think these both look better! you guys are the best at crits

    driftwood5.jpg

    puppies4.jpg

man my work lately is like... all sorts of styles hahah.

probably gonna start a whole series similar to the lunenburg one based on all the places i visited on my crazy road trip down to california
which is going to take me a while, cause that'd be 12 illustrations, but it'll be fun!

I think that poor hippo in your animal silhouettes could use a tail. Hippos use their tails to spray their poop everywhere, and your poor hippo can't do that!

I kinda hate that that's your "little illustration for the night". Mostly because it's awesome and would take me a week to do half as well.

It's hilarious because I was just catching up on this thread and as soon as I reached that image I couldn't help but snap it up and set it as my desktop wallpaper. Then a few posts down someone is asking for wallpapers. Cuz it's just that good.

So I'm doing a series of sequential illustrations based on the giant road trip my sister and i took in august from Halifax to California
sort of working randomly as I think of things to do,
here's vegas, and the following morning's drive to LA:

Pretty nifty Beavs. My only suggestion would be that the frames on the right look well contained without any sorta frame, while the left one with the ladies seems like she has an amputated arm. It seems like a border would alleviate that, or better yet just having the arm keep extending outside the frame somehow.

I really like it conceptually/texturally/compositionally though. Also hot lady dancers are always a plus.

Hahaha, just because I'm reading this chronologically, I find it really amusing to imagine you driving into Las Vegas after being on the road for 6 hours or whatever, and the first thing you do-before checking into the hotel, before checking out the sights- is go, 'showgirls, we gotta see some showgirls right now."

I need to do the two end illustrations for this still, but here's the middle part of the grand canyon illo.
    any tips?
sorta messed around with placement of the bird quite a bit
I'm like a more cubist version of robert bateman... putting birds in everything.

It doesn't really come across as a canyon to me, about the only place I see "canyon" is slightly below and to the right of the bird. To my eyes it seems more like spaceman spiff alien landscape than grand canyon. So you should totally change that bird to spaceman spiffs spaceship.

Whether they find a life there or not, I think Jupiter should be called an enemy planet.

If youve ever been out that way, some of the area does look a lot like this. Its a completely alien landscape.

    Beautiful Beavo.

yeah it's really a bizarre place, you spend the first few minutes wrestling with your brain trying to convince it that what you're looking at is not a painting.

also it's huge, so different parts look completely different from this. i was at south rim. it's very very broad too at parts, like you can't really see much of the north rim from where we were in south rim, it's so far away, that it's just sort of shrouded in atmospheric blueness

    they are very natural brushes
i use them instead of painter.

the brushes i used for this one from that pack are way down at the bottom there's a rocky texture brush
and i also used 2b pencil 7pt. i use that for every drawing i ever do, i love that brush
i am also partial to 50 chalk, that was used quite a bit in this one
and i think those are the only three brushes i used
when i erase out stuff, i use hard round 19

It immediately read as the GC to me, so good work there. I like.

Did you visit Eagle Point or the Sky Walk at all? I also visited the Canyon straight from Vegas, and it was like a breath of fresh air after the hubris and clatter of LV...

i actually went the other way grenn, i went from grand canyon to vegas
so it was like... spectacular mind blowing view to douchebags acting absurd

though the bellagio fountains were quite a sight
it was really nothing compared to the canyon.
also no skywalk, or helicopter fly ins or anything, just straight to south rim main area.
we watched the sunrise, it was spectacular.
if ever anyone needs some good inspiration, hit up grand canyon for a sunrise, i think a lot of stuff clicked on in my head that day
years of crits and things that were just stewing up in there hahaha

Daaaaamn, these brushes are really nice. Like you say, very natural, they're really working to reduce how different a tablet feels to draw on. I see that the creator of that set has a newer version but the pencil tool isn't in it. The pencil is really nice. Thanks for the link.

I like the grainy shadows you made for the canyon and the sun looks absolutely liquid, like it's bursting over the horizon in a hot glob.
