I'm personally unsure if I will keep subscribed after this. Tanking is going to suck, healing is going to suck, damage dealing is going to suck. Why try to play a game if you don't have any fun?

They've also officially announced that tomorrow is indeed the patch.

    http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=27189089214&sid=1
Extended maintenance will begin tonight at midnight, Tuesday, October 12 for the release of patch 4.0.1. Maintenance will begin at 12:01 AM PDT and conclude at approximately 12:01 PM PDT. During this time all realms and many web services will be unavailable.

Due to the size of the patch we highly recommend you enable your background downloader. If you need assistance doing so please visit http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=35274

You mean the definition wereby high population servers are again struck with server queues and the mass hyteria and random questions in trade chat that follows?

Also based on what I've played from the beta/ptr everything is not going to suck but instead become more awesome and less facerolling. Unless if your definition of suck is you cannot faceroll everything anymore.

I don't see how any of that is going to suck. We just finished an expansion where the difficulty was at its lowest in a game that never had the highest of skill caps.

Tanking has had a lot of threat issues, but recently they changed all tanks to do 200% more threat so its not as bad. Really a big change which blizzard has wanted is less facerolling/overgearing more actual player skill/attention required.

Tanking should be okay with the 200% threat modifiers on the tanks now. Before at 125% it was super dicey though.

Tanks do 200% more threat, but all classes lost their talented or innate threat reduction.

I'm not sure if being X yds away from the mob still increases the amount of threat needed to pull.

the game will still be playable, but if you wish for any classes to be balanced with one another you are probably going to hate the game till cata.

Unless of course you are on the higher end of things I guess. But yeah, challenge is going to be great and all, till you realize LFD has made you pug everything and those pugs are going to handle the culture shock of things not being quite as easy by being complete geese about it.

Oh and I dunno if anything changed, but I heard since blizz though we would be indefinately stronger due to these changes the ICC buff is going to be gone. If thats true (the latter, cause for the most part the former is not) then many guilds who were taking this wonderful gift to actually progress are going to be pood on REAL hard.

That being said, I plan on maybe spammin out some randoms to get a feel for what my alts will be like with decent gear, and because while I might replace the peices early, at least with 251ish gear I wont have to take every single green right away and instead can pick and choose what I actually like. Thats what I keep telling myself anyway.

Im not sure if you are talking about post 4.0, but it still does right now. I don't see that changing without a post telling us so because that would be a pretty significant ninja change. Besides, ranged classes lost thier talents reducing threat just like melee classes lost thier natural reductions, so it would kind of be like throwing up the double duce to all ranged classes.

I highly doubt the buff will be gone, since it matches the old 3.0 nerfing of all TBC content by roughly 30%. Not to mention Chill of the Throne is going, so you're looking at Matrix tanks dodging everything.

I've heard all sorts of things about the 30% buff. Ghostcrawler mentioned maybe removing it completely because "we shouldn't need it". It appeared to be gone on the PTR, although I hear maybe the PTR was confused and thought it was January 2010 still. I've also heard we somehow got a different 30% buff to replace it, but that sort of confuses me. I haven't tried raiding on the PTR, so I really don't know what's going on.

I've also heard the dodge debuff went away.

I guess I'm ambivalent towards what it looks like it's going to change and become. I never liked waiting for 3 sunders, to attack. I don't mind if they make the mobs insta-gib anything that isn't focusing on the tanks target, because I for one welcome many a Ret Paladin and Shaman deaths. But I've been having tons of fun with tanking the way it is. I love running in, doing my thing, and hold aggro off of three guys or so. Now it just sounds like I'll barely be able to hold aggro off of one guy, and barely keep the mobs off of the healer due to healer aggro. I never liked that, and I'm really not looking forward to it.
I do welcome more of a challenge, but it's sounding like they're trying to make the game back into a chore, rather than entertainment.
I guess we'll find out come Wednesday though.

    Its not like that LRH.

There's an exact quote by GC that pretty much says exactly what they intend with this system.

Tanks will easily be able to hold one mob against single-target DPS, with some effort, can hold two more against incidental AOE, and the rest against healer aggro. But mobs are also going to hit harder, so you're going to need to CC a few things.

Don't get me wrong I loved being able to trivialize shitty DPS players by just tanking everything until it died, but I'm also looking forward to the challenge.

Single target threat is not really changing beyond threat redirection effects becoming temporary. The real change is AoE, which will be harder on multi-mob pulls.

Meh, it's certainly not the revelation everyone made Cata out to be. They scaled back AoE nerfs and tanking changes after realizing they designed a whole XPac around facerolling, balanced DPS and Healing around a couple of specs and gave those a hearty handshake and a pat on the back (I don't recall receiving the latter, though; suppose I'll get it next XPac), and just recently started testing that other sorta major aspect of the game they were hoping to revamp. Think it was called PvP, or something.

Points for trying though, and for what it's worth they did follow through on quite a bit (cept for Spirit Link). Let's just hope they don't screw up gear again.

Sweet I might actually have to blow some CDs on my DK tank now. The only time I did it before is if I was with a group of facerolling 6k+dpsers... even then I was able to hold agro the majority of the time with CDs and careful threat gen on all mobs.

That's not true in my experience. I healed on the PTR in a random BG and did just fine. I was on a copy of my main without PvP gear though, while a lot of the premades have a full set of PvP gear, so that might have been a factor. But hey, when I can tree form up and survive against someone trying to blow me the fuck up for the entire cooldown I consider that a win.

Also I totally forgot to do the last bit of my 4.0.1 prep yesterday so I have to take care of it all today before our raid. Namely, get my badges and honor down below the softcap point and to finish collecting glyphs.

As with 3.0 and 2.0 before it, stuff's going to be balanced around the new level 85 endgame, so balance in the current game is going to be fucked to some extent.

I'm particularly interested in how raid trash will work now, given how much of ICC is packs of 5-6 or more things that can't be CCed. Will ranged just single target them down individually? (this is the thing I am least looking forward to.)

That being said, I wholeheartedly welcome the move away from the aoe furball method of clearing pve content.

Healing is entirely busted in 4.0. You cannot outheal damage and, naturally, cannot outdamage a damage class. You just curl up and die if left to your own devices.

It's not so bad in a group, but it renders the middle heals useless. Their hps is too low to be worth using.

Now, this is much better at 85, but it will suck ass for now.

I am rather excited to switch my Shaman back over to Elemental on Live and mess around with that. Come to think of it, I believe I need to get some more Emblems tonight to grab a second 245 head piece so I can have one with a Meta for caster DPS that I can swap out...

What I'm not exactly 'excited' about, I intend to completely redo my UI but for a few things. ArkInventory I'm keeping, Auctionator, MSBT, Grid/Clique, Bartender4 most likely, probably Prat and maybe Elk's Buff Bars. Besides those, I'm dropping a bunch of other stuff, X-Perl is a big one I don't really intend to keep, BigWigs/LittleWigs (I think I'll switch to Deadly Boss Mods), my entire set of Fubar and related plugins I'm going to get rid of. I think I'll need MoveAnything (if it's actually been updated for 4.0), as I'd like to rearrange how I've been doing things, and part of that will be moving my minimap to the top middle of the screen which means I'll have to move the standard stuff that appears there off the side.

Ah well, we'll see how it goes. Despite keeping Bartender4, I want to rearrange how I do the bars, so I'll be wiping out the settings anyway. Ugh, I've been putting off thinking about this too much but I suppose it's eminent now.

EDIT: The new buttons for prot are Rend, Heroic Strike, and Cleave. I might be missing one. Prior you could get away with a macro for HS and Cleave (I had them binded to my revenge key), but the change means that you need to use a button to specifically use them during a fight.

Blame dual spec. It doesn't update your other spec's latest skills, so everytime you train you have to switch specs and replace the bars. I got yelled at alot on my paladin's healing spec, because I tanked through instances while leveling, so I trained with prot spec up. Didn't realize until 80 that I had to manually update everything.
