tulkastulkas Registered User regular
edited July 2007 in Debate and/or Discourse
This thread is specifically about the Pitchfork Music Festival, so please keep the "oh my pitchfork is so pretentious" remarks to yourself.

When? July 13-15, 2007

Price? $15 for a Friday pass, $25 for a one day pass, $35 for a two day pass, or $50 for a three day pass.

Where? Union Park, Chicago

Featuring performances by . . .

Friday - Sonic Youth (performing Daydream Nation), Slint (performing Spiderland), GZA (performing Liquid Swords)

Saturday, July 14:

Yoko Ono
Cat Power and Dirty Delta Blues (w/ members of Dirty Three, the Delta 72, and Blues Explosion)
Clipse
Mastodon
Iron and Wine
Battles
Grizzly Bear
Voxtrot
Califone
The Twilight Sad
Girl Talk
Dan Deacon
Oxford Collapse
Professor Murder
Fujiya & Miyagi
Beach House
William Parker Quartet
Ken Vandermark's Powerhouse Sound

Sunday, July 15:

De La Soul
The New Pornographers
Of Montreal
Stephen Malkmus
Jamie Lidell
The Sea and Cake
Junior Boys
Menomena
The Ponys
Deerhunter
Klaxons
The Field
Cadence Weapon
The Cool Kids
Craig Taborn's Junk Magic
Nomo
Brightblack Morning Light
Fred Lonberg-Holm's Lightbox Orchestra

So, for those of you that are attending, who are you looking forward to? I personally think the entire lineup is fantastic, and I'd pay 50 bucks alone for a Friday pass.

Cat Power, Girl Talk, Grizzly Bear, Battles, Stephen Malkmus, Of Montreal, Menomena, The Sea and Cake and Deerhunter. This is so worth it, I think I'm going to Chicago.

Edit: And of course, Sonic Youth.

Does this thing typically sell out or would it be possible to consider it for another few weeks before coming to a firm decision?

You'll have plenty of time to make a decision.

I'm going to see Deerhunter on Saturday here in Atlanta, they are so amazing live. As is Of Montreal. I can't imagine all those bands together, it's going to be orgasmic.

I sent John Darnielle an email the other day practically begging him to come back to Pitchfork this year.

    His response?
No Pitchfork festival for me this year man! See you around sometime

    Oh well!

So, what other bands would you guys like to see at this fest? Air, Andrew Bird, The Arcade Fire (although AF would probably make it sell out quicker) or Wilco would be awesome. I coulda sworn Peter, Bjorn and John were going to be there, but I would like to see them as well. And, although I don't know why, I've never seen Godspeed You! Black Emperor touring.. that would be an awesome show.

AF wouldn't do this show, I don't think. Maybe three years ago, but not now. They skipped Winnipeg on their current tour despite our date selling out in a couple hours last time, when they had half the popularity they have now.

    Besides, Neon Bible is shit.

Lightning Bolt would be really fucking awesome, though.

Yeah, I know for a fact they probably wouldn't.... but it would be awesome. I still listen to The Funeral almost on a daily basis.

Well I mean clearly anyone with the pull to be able to get all of those bands to come to his three day music festival obviously has nothing better to do than chat about it here.

If someone who can book a three day music festival with Sonic Youth, Cat Power and Of Montreal on the bill wants to post about it here, I'm perfectly fucking cool with that.

The new Panda Bear album is amazing, so I wouldn't be surprised seeing Panda Bear or Animal Collective show up. I would, however, be in awe.

I'd be surprised if Animal Collective performs (they are going to be in London on the 11th of July). Same goes for Panda Bear, obviously.

BUT Junior Boys are rumored to play which is all kinds of exciting- So This Is Goodbye is fucking fantastic.

    I'd ask him for a job :P

I would be going to this, if I didn't have to save money to live in NYC.

But seriously, I jizz all over the place every time I see that line up.

    Slint.

    Spiderland.

    My God.

Then again, the average listener is kinda screwed, you need what, 6 months to "get" Spiderland.

Cadence Weapon just announced that he'll be at the festival and the tour dates section of his website confirms this. Junior Boys are rumored to play (they apparently made an announcement at a concert a couple of weeks ago). So fucking rad.

Yes! This probably indicates that they have at least one more batch of bands to announce, too.

Only 33 bands have been announced, and they promised 40+

We're probably going to get couple of announcements that announce a handful of bands each.

Listening to a live bootleg of Slint playing, the only issues was the fact that the vocals were down in the shoddy recording. And that's just a shoddy recording. They have energy, and they're like a swiss watch.

Apart from that, it's mother fucking slint, mother fucking live, mother fucking spiderland.

I can never remember Andrew Bird's name. I've never heard his music, but at least a dozen of my tangential Wikipedia sprees in the past few weeks have led to his article.

I guess I should give him a listen.

    Festival looks really good.
