brookings is awesome, i'm a little bummed though cause i wanted sevak to have a shot at bruce leeroy, but at the very least i think if neither of them makes it, dana will probably make them fight in the finale as the "grudge match" ala mitrione/big baby and yager/antonitto

Anyone notice how Koscheck is, in pretty much every episode, commenting on another mans body and physique? And constantly acting coy and flamboyant when he tries to be funny or weird out GSP with gay jokes. The freudian slip when he said he wanted to motorboat GSP's ass was also hilarious

I seriously do think he's in the closet now

I was watching the first fight and I looked away then Stevens tapped. I couldn't help but laugh my ass off. I rewound and watched the whole thing again. As Stevens goes in for the takedown, you can see Cody put his arm in his a circle shape that might as well have had a neon sign on it that said "PUT HEAD HERE" And then it was just over.

The second fight was just as silly though. GSP's guy gets behind him and just waits for Kos' guy to put his hand to the mat to hold his balance and then slip in the sleeper hold.

    Speaking of gifs...

This guy is apparently Yoel Romero, and this is (I guess) his second MMA fight. That, my friends, is an amazing throw/takedown/trip/thing.

@Adytum: Indeed, I don't think he had time. He went from weak punches to ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Kos is pretty bad at off-the-cuff trash talk. Everything he's said to GSP or GSP's team has been... well, pretty weak. I guess he rehearses for his interviews. Chael is annoying as shit, but at least when he tries to trash talk, he succeeds.

Ahhh, Dana said this, but it isn't really true. He was in a guillotine, and he knew that was a dangerous spot to be in. He scrambled to get to the cross position on Cody's body, so he was actively countering it.

There's a very good chance though that he didn't expect it to come on that quickly. Guillotines are normally more of a strength move, and they usually take a moment or two to work themselves out. When Marc passed to side he probably thought he'd be fine, thats conventional wisdom in BJJ. He knew it was tight, but all he hand to do was hold on a few more seconds...

Just a nitpick I know, but its really hard to be caught in a choke and not be aware that you're in trouble. A beginner would have tapped no problem. Once you get used to it though, you only tap at the very last second, and if the choke comes on tighter than you expect, thats when you go out. Or, for all we know he's just not the type that taps to chokes. They're out there.

From what I've been reading, actually, it seems it's more that Cody's guillotine just isn't traditional, and the different angle of pressure means that being in the opposite side in side control means he isn't in a 'safe' position as compared to a traditional guillotine. I don't know how true that is, though.

Oh its very true. It isn't traditional at all, the arm placement is quite different. The traditional guillotine is often more of a windchoke, whereas this seems to really target the carotid arteries. Obviously escaping to side doesn't relieve the pressure, it may even increase the pressure, its hard to say. I didn't even know this was possible, getting to that cross side position is how I always escape the guillotine and I've never been caught from there. I'm sure Marc practiced his guillotine defence before the fight, but Cody's skill and this unusual variation made it so that he was pretty fucked once he got caught.

Here's a video that was posted on a grappling forum:
    http://bjjtech.free.fr/?p=183
I've seen a couple others but this seems the closest to what Cody did. The "prayer choke" is also very similar if not the same as this, you can look for that as well. I really want to try this out. My arms always feel too long for guillotines, its natural for my elbow to be more at the windpipe area. Also, the video set-up from top half-guard looked amazing. I'm in that position all the time when I'm looking for a D'arce, this version of the guillotine looks like it fits in very nicely.
