Is rock-climbing (a wall at a gym, not real rocks) a good suggestion for a second date if the first went well? (Not my date, my character's. Alas.)

Well, that is no bad thing I guess. I'm not sure how I'd cope with such friends, if I had them. Although I guess I was able to hang out with a few Goths for a couple of years without catching it, or freaking out - so maybe it would be ok

Honestly it's far worse if you actually speak Japanese. If you don't, you can dismiss it as "Oh, that's kinda weird."

If you do it often feels like you're listening to text speak. Except instead of misspelling everything, it's grammatically nonsensical.

I hope you tell them off in fluent Japanese.

I have actually cussed out people in Japanese.

I just typed into Google "What is desu speak?" and this thread /page was the third result

    We're famous.

Now we simply need to monetise this fame and we can all live like Z list kings

For a while my politics thread was the third or fourth result for "midterm midtacular". I think it's down to 7th now.

    That is a great phrase

It sounds like something out of a brochure. It's the kind of date the unreal people that are in the wii ads would invite someone to.

If both people share an interest in athletics/fitness then yes. A rock gym is a safe, public space and it doesn't require any special training or equipment, just a decent general fitness level.

Man, it was really amazing watching SC2 professional matches live and in person at Blizzcon. The energy in the crowd was just amazing. Huge whoops from the crowd every time a well place psi storm got dropped, cheering and applause when a drop ship got sniped, mass hysteria as a ghost got blown up a split second before the nuke dropped.

Plus it was just plain impressive to watch that level of play.

Really makes me want to pick up SC2.

'As grey traces of dawn tinge the eastern sky, the three travelers, men of Willowdale, emerge from the forest shadow. Fording the River Dawn, they turn south, journeying into the dark and forbidding lands of the Necromancer. Even now the intensity of his dread power can be felt, weakening the body and saddening the heart. Ultimately they will become empty, mindless spectres... stripped of will and soul, only their thirst for freedom gives them hunger for vengeance...'

There's also the sweatiness factor to consider. Are you going to clean up in a public shower, then hit up a restaurant? No way.

Personally, I can only see this happening if you've reached the commitment stage and begun sharing your more esoteric interests with each other/become comfortable enough around each other to put less effort into looking as good as possible.

Rock-climbing doesn't really immediately pop as a compelling or funny date to read about.

It could make for a painfully awkward moment in a Michael Cera film. Watch as George Michael's feeble arms slip from the plastic rocks while his date flirts with the instructor. Soon he realizes that this will be remembered as their first date, not his, though he'll still be paying for the session.

Get one of the small rolls on a little plastic cylinder, then punch the cylinder out of the roll with a screwdriver. That way, the roll folds flat and can be comfortably carried in a pocket.
