Something that's bugged me for I don't even know how long.
So say I'm working in Excel (I'm on Office 2003, but I think this still applies to newer versions), and accidentally hit F1. Up pops the Excel Help menu. Is there any way at all to get rid of this menu from the keyboard, or do you have to use the mouse? No combination of ESC, ALT+F4, CTRL+F4, CTRL+SPACE or anything else I can think of works.

That didn't work. The Help menu just flashes its title bar. But when testing on a different computer I did notice that in the newer versions of Office the Help menu is more responsive to normal window manipulation commands. Oh well.
When you hit F1 does the help window open in a new window? Because Alt+F4 works for me to dismiss the window with current focus, including the help window.
It pops up a giant task pane. Again, this is Office 2003; I noticed in newer versions that it does in fact pop up a separate window that you can close with ALT+F4. But in 2003 the undocked task pane doesn't really function the same way.

Try just tabbing back to the main interface, then.
