That could actually be a decent set-up. Beth covers the East Coast, Obs covers the West, and both keep moving towards the middle. End the series on a joint effort powered by Bethesda's scenery and Obsidian's writing and we all die happy.

Then I'd like some gold bricks, a Ferrari, and a pet stegosaurus.

California is actually mentioned as the next target for one of the factions near end-game!

Anyone go with the other two brain options? The super speed is amazing, but how is the attack boost brain?

So, does anyone know how to become friends with the robots in Lucky 38 again? I got the bug that made them hostile after I did Vault 11 (not spoilering it to warn others), but back then I didn't get the quest failed message other people say they got, so now I've played for like six more hours after that without noticing it. There's a 'setreputation' command on the Fallout Wiki which I could probably try, but I don't know the faction code for Lucky 38. Can anyone look it up or tell me how to find it? Are there any other commands I could make them not-hostile with?

did you run or did you kill the bots in self defense?

if you ran, try going some place and waiting for a day. that should reset their hostility if you are not at negative rep with 38

I killed the robots at some other place. Utterly unrelated robots. Which gave me negative rep with 38. Because Obsidian's scripters has flippers for hands and set those robots to be a part of the 38 faction. That happened a few weeks ago in game time.

Just to make sure I am not misunderstanding you here, I saved, went into the casino, got shot a bit, ran out, waited for a few days, then tried coming back in. That worked as well as expected, ie not at all.

I just need to know what's their id for the setreputation command. How does one look that up? In the editor?

For me this game is much better than FO3. It has the feel of the old fallout games. Explaining what I mean by that would take a lot of typing I don't feel like doing right now, but the short version is that the world feels more convincing, and the quests and setting each have that extra little bit of imagination that I feel post-Morrowind Bethesda now lacks.

For me the world has more of a tragic feel to it.

Alot of people have said that there is more "Hope" in new vegas than there is in Fallout 3, but I disagree. Humanity has settled down with some kind of vague sense of societal structure, but really - it's fucked. The whole game, from place to place, everywhere I go, is telling me "Look how fucked humanity has become"

This is a very, very good thing.

    Fallout 3 was missing that.

I actually think FPP suits Fallout games better now that we have tolerable graphics. There are some really f-g great tense moments in FO3/ NV made possible only in FPP. If only the Oblivion engine wasn't so old and broken.

On a side note: how could they even further improve VATS? I know total turn-based battle like in FO1&2 is out of the question (sales and audience) but for sure VATS could use even more refinements?

Crippling Bureaucracy. Inaction in the face of a rapidly approaching enemy. It is alluded to that if they want something thier laws prohibit they will go to shady means to change those laws.

Of course the flip side of the last point is the brotherhood that never goes against the codex no matter what; which has led them to bad times too.

    Wow.

I like FALLOUT 3 better then NV so far. Even though I like the gameplay of NV more. Its the world and atmosphere I feel is missing. I am only a bit into the world, but I feel like NV is a series of individual outposts with vast emptiness between them.

FALLOUT3 felt like a city that was ruined. I felt like I could navigate my way around a bit more and doing so made sense. I feel a lot more like im wandering in a vast empty space in NV.

The towns and outposts have a bit less character to me so far too. Megaton, Littletown (or whatever it was called), that small town with cannibles, that city made out of a big ole boat- all felt unique and had their own interesting stories.

So far ive encoutered a town with nothing unique. A normal town which has been run over by gang members. A town which has a big dinosaur and a sniper. The people in them are boring too. Theres no drug addicts or bad moms with annoying brat kids I want to kill. Or creepy dudes who "saved" a girl in the past and acts like its his daughter when im pretty sure hes a pedo.

Maybe itll get better as I go on, but so far its a fun game for me to explore, but all the things people are claiming make it awesome, im just not seeing.

It's how corrupt and incompetent the NCR is really. While they are probably the main force for civilization in the Wastes, they are grossly overextending themselves and their overall incompetence is showing itself. You can see this in how badly under-equipped and undermanned they are all over the wastes.
    Disruptor wrote:

I honestly can never fathom this, because NV shits all over Fallout 3 here. It builds on Fallout and Fallout 2, reintroduces many old places and ties in the entire world in a more logical fashion. Fallout 3 feels like stuff thrown together from Fallout with no rhyme or reason for it.
but I feel like NV is a series of individual outposts with vast emptiness between them.

In other words, it's exactly like the original games.

That's exactly how it should be.

Megaton and Little Lamplight were beyond stupid. Megaton made utterly no sense and was literally one of the dumbest concepts ever (not to mention the whole quest line surrounding the bomb). I mean, nobody messes with the bomb because the Church there gets upset, yet you can just walk up to it and attach something/fuck with it without any issue. Why someone didn't just wander over and disarm it is beyond me. Little Lamplight was immensely obnoxious because it basically reminded you that Kids in the game were invincible. That's not wrong, but basically deliberately screwing you because they are and making you do a retarded quest (when shooting your way in should have been 100% viable) was immensely annoying.

I mean, they're some of the worst aspects of Fallout 3. Rivet City though I will give anyone was a fantastic concept.

Having played everything in the series that matters (including 'Wasteland' excluding the 'BoS' - don't you love video game snobbery :p ) I have to say this one might be the best of the bunch.

Granted, I loved 3 despite its warts, but the story, setting, dialogue, locals, NPC's, and improvements (crafting, hardcore, companion control, etc.) just simply set this game apart.

That is the entire thing though. NV feels far more Fallout than Fallout 3. It has all the aspects of the original game that Fallout 3 lacked or was just confused on. Fallout NV remembers things like cars not being god damn bombs (some are explosive though). It has a wasteland that feels like a wasteland, complete with utterly terrifying creatures that will brutally sodomize you without mercy. It's towns and cities make logical sense, with most of the quests also making a good deal of sense as well (EG no blowing people up within 5 minutes).

I mean, NV is a genuine Fallout game. Fallout 3 feels like a fan game. NV feels far more like an actual sequel than Fallout 3 ever did.

Edit: NV IMO despite its bugs (but I played Fallout 2 on release) is probably only below the original Fallout in terms of how great an RPG it is. Fallout 3 is definitely not a bad Fallout game, but it ends up only above Fallout Tactics in terms of Fallout games.

I always feel a bit incredulous when people cite megaton and little lamplight as examples in a POSITIVE way, considering how specifically stupid and groan inducing both were. MEGATON EXISTS SUPPOSEDLY 200 YEARS AFTER THE BOMB.

Heres one, how do more kids end up in little lamplight TWO HUNDRED YEARS LATER.

The intelligence checks in dialogue in that game are somehow MORE idiotic than the normal (still idiotic) dialogue.

    Unbelievable.

If you are at all educated it LITERALLY BOGGLES THE MIND.

It's difficult to take you SERIOUSLY when you state opinion as FACT and post in an OBNOXIOUS way.

People are allowed to like Fallout 3 more than NV. But having that opinion doesn't make Fallout 3 better than New Vegas.

Could you tell the silly goose that also MANY MANY people never even played fallout 1 and 2 and that NV 'feeling more like "real" fallout' means dick to anyone that came to the party with 3.

    Yeah this too.

I didn't feel like spending that much time on him though to be honest.

I can understand how people who maybe never even heard of Fallout before Fallout 3 might feel a little alienated by new Vegas as well.

If you came to the party at 3, maybe get to know the guests already there, I'd like to introduce you to them, thier names are fallout 1, and fallout 2, and while fallout 3 is over drooling into his upturned dunce cap in the corner, they have some things called good writing, wit, verisimilitude and marginally well-thought out plotting to share with you. Please, let them.

You make me want to facepalm so hard my brain ejects itself through the wall behind me, into the fucking dimension buckaroo banzai drove his rocket car through.

I will make you even sadder.... I cam e to the party with..... Tactics.....

I liked getting to the Mojave Outpost and reading the plack about the Desert Rangers joining the NCR. Man I loved Wasteland. Setting foot in Vegas and fighting slicer-dicers for the first time was... memorable.

EDIT: Of course I figured a military outpost would have cleared some of those cars off the road to open up a clear field of fire but whatever.

I actually own a boxed copy of tactics, and while it failed with the setting (hairy deathclaws and caped power armor) it was nowhere close to the travesty that was fallout 3s setting butchery.

My biggest problem with F3 was that the much touted 'EXTREME MORAL CHOICE' system was just one. Did you want to be good or evil for the rest of the game? You decide in megaton. You can either do a silly little repair check or 'find yourself INTRIGUED' by Lucien Lachance and blow up the town because a senile old man put on the wrong pair of underpants on his head that day. But it's 'badass and cool' because you're a guy who 'solves problems' right alongside mr. Lucien Lachance

I don't know why to blow up a town or not is considered an interesting choice by bethesda. Why they thought bringing back the dark brotherhood quest giver in such cheesey way would make it less 'oblivion with guns' and why oh why they included vampires.

It's like they can't help themselves

The thing about Fallout 3 that makes it so damn interesting to me's not that it's not so much focused on the post-apocalyptic world, but rather on the pre-apocalyptic. Crawling through the ruins of Future Washington and taking in the sights, finding scraps of information about the last days, dealing with the autonomous and/or rogue relics of the American history and industry and military - yes, Fallout 3 hosed some stuff up and some worse than others, but considering how deep this field trip of Bizarro America goes I can't understand how people can be so vitriolic towards it.

It's how corrupt and incompetent the NCR is really. While they are probably the main force for civilization in the Wastes, they are grossly overextending themselves and their overall incompetence is showing itself. You can see this in how badly under-equipped and undermanned they are all over the wastes.

Its the world and atmosphere I feel is missing

I honestly can never fathom this, because NV shits all over Fallout 3 here. It builds on Fallout and Fallout 2, reintroduces many old places and ties in the entire world in a more logical fashion. Fallout 3 feels like stuff thrown together from Fallout with no rhyme or reason for it.
but I feel like NV is a series of individual outposts with vast emptiness between them.

In other words, it's exactly like the original games.

That's exactly how it should be.

Eh, maybe I wouldnt like the original 2 that much. I always try to get into them, but I always get bored.

Also, I play videogames for fun. Littlelamplight and Megaton were FUN concepts even if they werent super realistic. You know what else isnt realistic, a dude trying to sell me dinosaur toys. But its funny and I enjoyed it.

Your entire argument seems to be "NV is closer to 1 and 2 therefore its better." Which...is silly. I could say "Fallout 3 is closer to Oblivion, therefore its better." But that wouldnt mean anything.

So far the entire concept of the Legion seems absolutely retarded. Why are they dressed like Roman soldiers? Im sure I will find out more eventually, but I also bet its still sort of silly.

How comes theres like 1000 dudes who escaped from one prison to form the powder gangers? Thats dumb!

You can throw away a bit of realism for fun.

Why oh why did they include Ancient Romans. It's like they can't help themselves. :P

Face it, all of these games have tons of stuff that's unrealistic or just silly. It's part of the fun. The only objective problem I've seen listed is bugs, and New Vegas, well...
