Yupyup. Is it true that all the other lines are getting on the Metal Gear unlimited, cause I'm worried I might not bring enough chocolate for everyone.
All of the Eastbound trains converge in Chicago and transfer to the Metal Gear line. Hard to say how many people there will be this far out. Keep checking the OP of this thread as we get closer to March to get a better gauge of how many people will be on the train.
Right, so I'm just going to bring a hat that says PAX on it so the appropriate people can steal me.

Yo bitches, I did the train last year alone and it was boring but efficient, so this year I shall join the PAX train. I also found a group of gamers in VA and I may convince some of them to come with me.

OK, official update as fares have been purchasified

We live and work up near BWI, and we will be flying back Sunday night on the 8:30 JetBlue flight from Boston to BWI, so we are boarding there. Hopefully we won't have any trouble spotting you guys on the 176 and there will be plenty of space for us. I will have Smallworld (on my iPad), Munchkin, probably D&D4E, and possibly a few other portable games. Most likely have some Magic decks on us as well, though not sure how early we want to start down that dark path. We don't really have DS's though, so hopefully we won't be the only non-gameboy PAXers on board.
What line you will be on: Sonic Line

You know why people have eyes in the front? Because they have to move forward to see the landscape in the distance. If you had eyes in back all you could see is your home town getting farther away; you can't move forward like that. If your eyes are in front what you see in the distance keeps getting closer. That's what lets people move forward.

Wow, is your school paying for hotel accommodations too?
For people that are on the metal gear line, when do you transfer to that train/do you know when the stops are in Ohio specifically?
I ask because the specific 448 I'm taking out departs Cleveland at 5:50/6 AM on Thursday.

All the times and locations for every stop along each line is in the spoiler for that line in the 2nd post.
Also, the 448 only runs once per day. As long as you're departing on the same day listed in the 2nd post, you're on the same train.

Huh, more people in Cleveland taking the train than I thought. I'm now tempted to cancel my flight and jump on here instead, though it would mean getting up stupidly early.
I don't live up there, so I'm looking for some help with getting around before I can change my plans.
If I leave my car in long-term parking at the Amtrak station and then fly back to Hopkins on Monday night, what's the best way to get back to my car? I had been looking at using the RTA but then found that the waterfront section doesn't run on weekdays. I'm open to alternative suggestions, but I'll be driving myself to the city regardless.

That wasn't weather problems. That was rail repairs. Since they already repaired them last year, they shouldn't have to do it again (right... right?).
Gotta call out once again that my wife's trip on Amtrak a few years back was delayed 12 hours in one direction, and 13 hours on the return trip. Rail repairs, weather, traffic on the line, missed connection in Chicago, who knows what else.
Enjoy your trip, but if you're taking the train from Washington, I'd be prepared with extra supplies in case of "minor delays."

I may be leaving for PAX in Florida instead of Ohio like previously planned. The Amtrak plan has me on the 98 Silver Meteor from the scheduled 13:57 Orlando departure. However, the transfer in Washington Station has me going on the 174 Northeast Regional instead of the 176 Northeast Regional -- is this a typo or have I missed something?

You have to select Multi-city trip when booking and choose each train. There are multiple Northeast Regional trains. If your ticket doesn't say 98 Silver Meter/176 Northeast Regional, you're not on the same train(s).

Is anyone taking the Metal Gear Line *home* on Monday? I'm considering doing that instead of flying back, which will also solve my previous dilemma of getting from the airport to the Amtrak station.

I'm sure a number of people will be (there were last year). I can't say myself for sure, because I'm still in the process of finalizing plans and all, but it's likely.
Is anyone taking the Metal Gear Line *home* on Monday? I'm considering doing that instead of flying back, which will also solve my previous dilemma of getting from the airport to the Amtrak station.
I'm taking Metal Gear back on Monday, for similar reasons.
Well I realize there is still months to go before Boston but I was wondering what games I should bring or learn before PAXTrain. I'm asking for good multiplayer games for DS or PSP as well as any card games, board games, etc. Both of my handhelds have not been used in months so any suggestions would be very welcome.
I'm planing on bringing Munchkin (I have various types), Chez Geek, Flux (Regular, Zombie or Monty Python), Bang and travel Catan among others. I also plan on bringing a few D&D 4E and Gamma World character sheets (Some created at a few set levels and a bunch blank).
I figure it might be a good idea to start talking about it now, so that we can all know a few things we can try to have handy to join in on the fun. Another reason to suggest a few now is that it gives those without copies of games months to buy games that they wish to play with the group. I will be getting on the Metal Gear Line only for the last 12 or so hours until Boston, and I know for conventions in general you end up planing more things then you end up doing but would like to have some idea of what we'll play.
Smerk: I may consider flying to San Fransisco if it doesn't cost any extra money and there's more people on that line than this one. I won't take a train from the west coast though unless i can afford a room again, which I'd be willing to share with somebody to cut costs.
I wasn't particularly serious about the fly to SF thing, but that would be awesome if you could make it. Now we just have to convince <Gidgets> and <IRL Names Redacted> to train the whole way. I shall poke and harass them :P
Yes. We are going to be forcing you to stay before we fly to chicago. Their handles are Zedarius, Bitstream, and qapf, btw. Zedarius doesn't post on forums. And we probably won't train the entire way cuz we has jobs.

It's listed that way as the common point for that train. Technically the Star Fox line goes all the way to NYC, but I set this up for them to transfer in DC because it's a more central layover point.
Fair enough. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going crazy.
Last year I drove my 2 friends and I all the way from VA to Boston. Very excited to take the train this year instead. Besides my DS and my Magic decks I'm planning on bringing along at least one copy of Forbidden Island. If you havent played it yet, or have and dig it as much as I do make sure to look for me as I have yet to assemble a perfect enough team to win on the highest difficulty.
Moe, can you move me to the Star Fox line? I'm boarding in Orlando, FL now.

70 hour train ride? I get to stop in Chicago and get a pizza? I get to hang out with my friends in Rochester? I get to see the east coast for the first time? This is going to be awesome. Even if I'm the only PAXer on that line I'll still see about running around-the-clock Zendo or other games for the other train goers.
EDIT: I am going to try and come early which means I'll almost certainly be the only PAXer on the train, unfortunately. However I will be coming back on time so I'm sure I'll see many of you then. I also think I'm getting off at Rochester to meet up with some friends and drive down with them.
