I think they reverted that patch because my home computer isn't downloading..
Err nevermind, it's showing companions on the map...

The best way to do it is to win right up to the limit on blackjack, then switch to the slots to hit the jackpot. It maxes out your credits, but you might accidentally hit the cap on the small slot wins, so it takes a little bit of finesse or a couple of tries.
1) Set Luck to 8 at start
2) Make 4,000 caps on the way to the New Vegas Medical Clinic
3) Buy the Luck implant
4) Go to Mick & Ralph's and get Ralph to open up his special inventory. Steal the Naughty Nightwear for Luck+1
5) Break the Atomic Wrangler
6) Buy your way into the strip for 2,000 caps
7) Break all the other casinos
I play slots in every place except Ultra-Luxe. There, I just played Blackjack. Stand on 17, double down on 16 every time. Roulette is way too annoying to play quickly. Statistically it should pay off, but I never hit the 35:1.

Although if you're lazy, just go for the slot wins everywhere except Ultra-Luxe, which doesn't have slot machines cause they're too sleazy. Pricks. You end up winning about 80k credits, which is nothing to sneeze at.

I always wanted to do a kill everyone Fallout 3 run, all making sure not to kill people if I still had to do something for them to unlock more people for me to kill. At which point I would kill them, of course.
I just wouldn't want to miss out on killing a dozen people because I'd killed one other person too soon.

I'm htinking about getting Cass as a companion, but I have already discovered and looted Durable Dunn's caravan, and I have already taken Birds of a Feather. Did I screw myself out of another companion quest?
Veronica is great with the Ballistic Fist (:winky:) but I guess there's a bug you have to tell her "stay close" every time you zone or it reverts back to "run the fuck off to who the fuck knows where as fast as you can, every chance you get" apparently.. Plus her perk sucks pretty much.
ED-E is still the best companion, best perk, doesn't talk just plays cool music, not the strongest fighter but can finish off stuff while you're reloading, and can carry a metric fuckton.
I haven't really tried any of the others though. Cass for a bit, pretty meh. If you want to do Birds of a Feather you HAVE to take her as a companion.
portable workbench is actually pretty good for an energy weapons type or something, recycling ammo on the go is very handy
when I first read it I thought it was she was a portable workbench and could make anything regardless of your own repair skill, which left me kinda disappointed

Cass's perk is amazing. Carry a bunch of whiskey with you and it's an extra 1 Strength / 2 DT / whatever other perks I forgot about, with no harmful side effects. It's like an extra piece of armor with stats on it.
Eh I dunno, every time I go to recycle energy ammo I get like... 7. I think there's perks to improve that, but, waste of a perk IMO. I have like 1500 of each energy weapon type, and can always buy more. I completely shoplifted everything in the Silver Rush, right out from their noses... with a Stealthboy. But I left them alive for an ammo supply.
I guess I never tried drinking with Cass, but extra STR doesn't mean much if you aren't doing melee/unarmed, and have 2 huge walking suitcases for carrying stuff.
I dunno, the red highlighting has helped me spot a distant, brown wearing dude or dirt colored creature way more easily. Plus, Boone's a goddamn monster.

The shooty companions are alright, but I cannot get over their goddamn ammo usage. They just blast away as fast as they can pull the trigger regardless of range or even if there is something in the way of their bullets. It's not so bad with Raul and Boone because their default infinite ammo guns are decent, but Cass with her pissant little shotgun kills me.

Broke as fuck in the style of the times. Gratitude is all that can return on your generosity.
Yeah don't see any point giving them weapons, except ones that don't use ammo... If I had no use for the Anti-Material I'd give it to Boone but uhhh don't really wanna keep him supplied with .50, not the most common ammo in the world.
I decided that companions are worthless when you're trying to play a ninja. They don't. fucking. sneak. They run head first into everything and completely ruin my surprise damage.

My only problem with companions so far is when my screen suddenly switches to a the slow-down scene as they kill their newest victim from some random part of the building.
Yeah, I turned off cinematic kills for that reason. MY problem with companions is if they're too close when you do an unarmed VATS attack, you'll often sneak attack critical them. It's a good reason for that perk. I can easily take half of any companion's health with a well-placed stomp.

So, I got Boone and ED-E as companions, and I have become the spotter for Boone, apparently.
The way this works is, I use Eddie's perk to look in a particular direction through my varmint rifle's scope. Then I shoot in the direction of the enemy that I clearly can't hit. Then Boone one-shots them.
Are tehre any problems with having multiple companions chilling at your pad at the 38? I have Boone hanging out there, and am wandering around with Raul. I now have the option to ask Cass to join me, but to do that I have send Raul either to his empty shack in the middle of nowhere or to the 38.
I was going to have Raul be my repairmen, because I read somewhere you can get repairs for free by sending him to his cabin, meeting him there, having him repair your stuff, and then getting the caps back. Maybe I am thick, but I couldn't figure out to get the caps back. And I felt really terrible when I tried sent him to his lonely, empty shack in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by monsters.
Occasionally sending more than two followers to the Lucky 38 will result in other followers disappearing, leaving only the first and last to arrive, plus any who remain in your team at the time. When this happens, the other followers will not return to their home bases nor reappear when you leave the casino (or the strip) and re-enter - they are lost from the game permanently. If this bug occurs, it appears to be triggered early in the game, as going back to earlier saves will not fix the problem. [NOTE: Disappeared followers may pop-up in unexpected locations. In one game Rex was lost due to this bug but was later found inexplicably wandering inside HELIOS-1. Other charcters are not yet found]
I have Rex, Veronica and Cass hanging at my 38. Other than Cass complains of being bored, and Rex ran away once, found him back at the King, apparently he doesn't like people who wear hats (it's a BERET dammit) ?? No problems.

That's actually good to know, but my two problems with it are that 1) it always startles the bejesus out of me, and 2) when it's over, you're always looking in that direction instead of wherever you were looking before.
I could turn it off, sure, but I really like scoping in a guy half a mile away, squeezing off a round, and then watching his head blow up in slow motion from right next to him. So I'll just live the occasional startles and annoyance.

I was bored and gave Boone a plasma rifle, keeping his trigger happy ass supplied with ammo was being a bit of a bother, and then I discover the unique plasma rifle. The fucking thing fires like twice as fast as the normal version. Its insane, there will be a guy a mile away on a ridge and Boone will blast out 40 shots in a half second.
Though, the first encounter after I gave it to him we ran into a pack of Nightstalkers. I get a slo-mo kill on the first one, and when that ends the one corpse is surrounded by 7 glowing green piles. Boone kind of scares me, now.
So I made a new guy in this because I apparently made my first WRONG.
How do you get caps and some starter guns with ammo and maybe a nice baseball bat?
I ran out of ammo on my old guy so quick and just sorta kept dying.
You can loot pretty much every thing from Goodsprings. Except for what's in the saloon and general store that is.
Doc Mitchell's house, Victor's House and where Easy Pete usually sleeps can be used as player homes. That means you can store things just fine.
In the OP there is a link to mods that emulate preorder bonuses. They come with decent weapons and items to get you started. They just pop up in your inventory when you start or load the mods.
Head to Primm after you finish up in Goodsprings and take of that place. Get whatever you can from their. Then head to the NCR prison and kill and take or loot what you want.
