Netflix - Now with Unlimited Streaming ONLY!

I just received this e-mail from Netflix:
Netflix wrote:
We want to let you know about two important changes to the Netflix service.

1. The price of your current plan is changing from $8.99 a month to $9.99 a month. This new price will be effective with your next billing statement on or after January 2, 2011, and will be referenced in your Membership Details. With your current plan you can both instantly watch unlimited TV episodes and movies on your computer or TV and receive unlimited DVDs by mail.

2. We now also offer a new $7.99 a month plan which lets you instantly watch unlimited TV episodes and movies on your computer or TV. This plan does not include any DVDs. All the titles you can watch instantly on your current plan are also available on this new plan, and as a reminder, not all titles on DVD are available to watch instantly. This new plan is available immediately – if you'd like to switch to this new plan at any time, simply visit Your Account.

Why the changes? Our selection of TV episodes and movies available to stream has grown dramatically, and as a result most members want us to deliver unlimited movies and TV episodes two ways: streaming instantly over the internet plus DVDs by mail. The price change will allow us to continue to offer the popular plan choice of unlimited TV episodes and movies streaming instantly along with unlimited DVDs. The new plan, which does not include DVDs, is a great option for the increasing number of members who only want to watch instantly. The $7.99 a month price reflects no DVD shipping costs on this plan.

It is about time these jerks included an unlimited streaming only plan. And its a dollar cheaper per month than what I was paying before! I went and made the switch immediately. Gotta send my back DVD now, but I am jazzed about this. I bought an Apple TV a month or two ago specifically for Netflix streaming to my TV (I know there's other options, this is what I went with). I just hope they keep expanding the library (it seems like they've stagnated a bit on that front lately, or Apple TV doesn't update the new arrivals screen that well).

Talk about this glorious turn of events.

I love business deals like these.

Someone inspired Netflix some profit here.

As a Netflix user, I've seen most of the films- I would like to see on Instant.

I now use more dvds unless there is a new instant release that is worth watching.

They will probably hook in more customers who will eventually feel the same.

Who they then can offer the dvd plans.

The streaming catalog is still reaaally sparse. I can't see them adding enough in the near future to make full-streaming an option for me.

But then, I watch a ton of Netflix, so it's not hard for me to go through the good movies on their catalog.

    4 at a time went from ~24 to ~28 a month.

Considering bumping it down to 3 (or maybe even less) at a time, because now I realize I don't go through dvds very quickly anymore.

My thought exactly. It will be nice when most of their catalog is streaming, but we're still a ways from that.

    This is pretty great news

I like Netflix for HD streaming of old shows I've already seen

Whereas the one DVD I had out that was required for the plan (The Last Picture Show) has been sitting on my desk for months, unopened.

Guess this is a signal to finally watch it and then send it back and switch plans.

definitely. but it is nice to be able to see movies that you would not waste a shipment on in nice pretty HD.

and as far as HD streaming goes, I think Netflix is the best.

BUT i believe we can all agree that the quality of STARZ streams is just the worst

I'm actually really disappointed at the price hike for the DVD plans. All I know is I'd rather pay two bucks less a month than three dollars more, even if that does mean one less DVD at home.

I canceled netflix when I realized I spent almost as much time looking for something to watch on streaming that was interesting or I hadn't already seen as I did actually watching things
Probably gonna give them a while to update their catalog before I sign back up

I love netflix though just because they pretty much drove blockbuster out of business. Fuck you Blockbuster

I love netflix, but I am kinda still unimpressed with their streaming services. Either because i have seen most of their streaming movies or because the ones i have not seen are from Starz and have shitty encoding.

But it does have some awesome TV... i watched all of Avatar because of netflix.

I think we're going to drop down to the instant queue only. We take too damn long to watch the movies when they come and after we watch them we have a tendency to forget about them for a week before we send them back out.

I'm talking about my wife and myself but upon reading the above sentence it almost comes off like Venom discussing his Netflix subscription.
