Well then, as soon as I went to post a reply saying it seems to have stopped for me, it refreshes.

Clearly, somebody hates me very much.

    God?
I don't get the error as often as before, and trying to scroll a page before it's fully loaded seems to provoke it

I'm having this same problem with the added bonus of the page dumping out to the "cannot find server" error page after the second load finishes.

    I'm using IE.

Yeah. I'm still somewhat in the middle of all of it, but I was repairing some tables and thought I could stop by.

The double-loading is a side effect of our current work around for a bug in our webserver. There is a "theoretical" fix in the latest version if we upgrade, but here is the kicker, if we try and remove our work around and go to the clean solution (which removes this bug) and it doesn't work, the forums and mainsite ads will be down for ~4-6 hours while I rebuild the work around. This is bad because it doesn't just take 4-6 hours of my time, but it also requires a technician be physically near the box while I do this. It hasn't been forgotten, but I'm also not going to rush into anything.

Yeah, it's stopped with the Opera 9 upgrade, but now occasionally, the forums will just completely stop responding for about 5-10 minutes. At least it was as of Friday. I've been away from the internets for a few days.

We put in a patch on Wednesday. It fixes this problem, but it seems to be adding problems for other things. I'm trying to find a solution that works for everyone.

I'm getting another problem with the switch over to Opera 9, where the left-most fields (with the usernames and icons, etc.) occasionally load taking up half of my screen space. This happens about 10% of the time, but a reload takes care of it right away.

Should I create a new thread for this, or leave it in here as a general Opera problems thread?

I'd say this is a beta problem, I'm getting this sporadically with almost every other phpbb forum.. Also, switching on "fit site to screen size" makes the site look ok again

Yeah, just press Ctrl-F11 twice to switch it on and off, and the layout will go back to normal without reloading. Or you can keep the "fit to screen size" mode on all the time since it's a godsend for desktop threads and pretty much any NSF56k threads that break the h-scroll. The only downside is that it screws up CSS a little and spoiler tags stop working.

I assume this is an Opera-only bug, but it's doing weird things when I stop or click a link.

This is how it looks before I click anything or stop. (Warning: big-ass jpeg ahead)

This is how it looks after. (Warning: same warning as before)

Everything gets squished down. It does the same kind of thing on other pages too, but not as drastically. I can take more screens if you want.

(for reference, this is Opera 8.51 on 98SE.)

Yeah, it does that to me too. Even before the crash (I'm gonna start referring to this as the crash of '06). Didn't really fuck up my ability to read the forums though, so I never thought much about it.

Incidentally, every time I click a link on the index to go into a subforum, the Forum Index turns into this. A brand new bug I've never encountered here before.

Getting the forums back is nice and all, but it's like we're getting every bug ever imagined all at once in the bargain.

It only does that if the whole page hasn't finished loading before you click the link. Still moderately annoying.
