    Hey everyone playing chess here.

You should all go and sign up at http://gameknot.com/

They provide boards for chess, and record all the games[and save all the games for players rated above 1500, storing them into a large game database open to all the players].

As well, they provide the option to start "minitournaments" and non-subscribers can participate in 1 at a time.

While premium subscribers are the only ones that can start invitation only mini-tournaments, With proper notification it should be easy enough to set up a public game that no one but us joins.

That or someone can buck up and eat the 15 bucks[i may end up doing this, not sure]

Anyway, anyone can participate so long as they have played 5 games, but its encouraged to play a lot and so get a rating that reflects your abilities as well as hone your skills.

Long maybe... I don't think I had much doubt as to the outcome from early on, though. I spent most of the game on the defensive, with a brief offensive push in the middle. By about move 30, though, it was just a matter of time before my king got cornered.

Well, if it were only one person down, I'd have an easy solution. With two down, that means I've got two slots to fill, so I think I'm going to throw myself into the mix, and randomly choose either Moriarty, or Irond Will to get a by this round, with the other person playing me. This will mean someone in the loser's bracket next round will get a by, too, and I'll be playing in the tournament after all.

If anyone doesn't think this is fair, or can see a better way to do it, let me know.

Okay, folks, sorry for the delay. We had two dropouts, Digger Dude and Drez. Since Elkamil and Grundlterror didn't finish their game in time, I'm having them play a late one. A random draw between Moriarty and Irond Will gave Moriarty a free bye into the winners' bracket in round two. Cosmic Sombrero, you luck out and draw a bye for this round, meaning you automatically win.

I dropped myself into Drez's spot, and Will and I will play bracketed with Elks and Grundlterror. The goal is not to slow down the tournament. So, your second-round games may begin immediately, hopefully to be finished by May 28th. Good luck!

Feral just did the same to me. My last thought before he made his move was "That was a really stupid move to make."

This probably isn't the right place to ask but it doesn't seem to warrant a whole new topic.

I've played chess very little. I know all the pieces and the basic things like Castling and En Passent but when it comes to actually putting together a strategy I haven't got a clue. I'm sure there are a wealth of sites out there claiming to teach you to play Chess well but does anyone have a reccomendation to save me wading through the crap?

How to Re-Assess Your Chess - Jeremy Silman.

Pick it up at your local Barnes and Noble - it's worth the buy.

I think I'm gonna do up a "Basic Chess Strategy" post after this round of the tournament is over (so that everyone can benefit equally from it).

    I lost to Thorgot.

Can't seem to get the notation sent to post them up, but let's just say it was a wonderful game and that I didn't lose in the end due to utter incompetence and shortsightedness one bit. Nope, not at all.

I was typing out the game and then some douchebag joins and starts a new one. So I only got the first two thirds of it.

Click on the email button on the left hand side and yahoo will automatically send it to your yahoo email.

Also you can make your games private so random guys dont accedently join. Then just invite your opponent.
