CMOS Checksum Bad [Advice Please]

Hello, I'm putting a computer together for the first time and I ran into this lovely issue which at firs wasn't letting me do anything past POST or BIOS setup. A friend suggested taking the mobo battery out for a few minutes then putting it back in. After doing this, I still get the cmos checksum bad error with the options of f1 to setup bios and f2 to run with defaults. If I press f2 the computer seems to boot up just fine, and I can log in and what not. I'm just concerned that I'm avoiding a problem by just pressing f2 every time.

    Kind of a noob quesiton, how does one flash a newer BIOS?

    Look in the manual and see if there is a jumper to do it.

    The easiest way is probably to boot to windows, download and install the Live Update utility found here

    Run the utility and it should show whether or not there are any updates to apply to your board

    bad checksum just means your bios settings were reset when you pulled the battery out and you haven't gone in and set any. The biggest problem you could run in to is the date and time in your bios will be wrong.
