So how exactly does the Gamestop thing work? Do they have to do something on their end or is it a simple connect and download thing?

    Local wi-fi connect and download.

    Awesome.

Instead of dealing with the idiots at the Gamestop here, I can sit next door and eat some Five Guys while getting Pokemon.

If the Japanese language is to be believed, the stress should be on the syllable that ends with an N, like in "En" or "Cune."

    "Raikou" is pronounced "Rye-Koh."

That's what bugs me most; the names are unchanged from the Japanese names yet we have to change how they're pronounced to make them easier despite our being prefectly able to prnounce them as is. Is it the "we-treat-our-kids-like-idiots" syndrome? Or something?

Pronounce it this way as well. While I've been corrected by now, its hard to get used to that after calling it this all these years.

Guys, I've started replaying the games in the order FR > E > Pt > HG, and want to actually by the end of it have caught them all.

I have only one DS, so I cannot trade, though by the time I come to play HG I'll have a second one, and all the online stuff anyway.

So, my question is: WHEN in each game can I catch WHICH pokemon?

Like, I know that before I have the National Dex (which requires that I beat the Elite Four) in FireRed I can only capture the original 151 (save for event pokemon, trades etc). After that I can capture a few of the next generation's on the Sevii islands.

What's the deal with Emerald? What's the selection before and after the national-dex-like limit is removed, and at what point does that happen?

When in Platinum will I be able to put my carts in and transfer pokemon from FR and E, and how does that work? Is there a second set of pokemon unlocked after a similar National-Dex-esque event?

Is HeartGold the same as Platinum in this regard?

Sorry for asking. I've checked serebii and bulbapedia, but there's little about which pokemon (outside of the obvious ones of that game's generation) are available when in each game and when, and under my (perhaps abnormal) conditions.

    Ok, it's actually pretty simple.

Fire Red/Leaf Green=Kanto Dex=150 possible pokémon, though of course you can't get them all because of version exclusives. After you catch 75 of them you can unlock the National Dex which has 386 pokémon in it, of which you can get with just Fire Red about 210-220.

Emerald is very similar with its Hoenn Dex, which allows you to catch unique pokémon from 252-386 in the National Dex. From Treecko-Deoxys in general. Emerald being a third version has a lot of 2nd gen pokémon catchable after the main game is over.

Platinum=Beat the game, see all the Sinnoh Dex pokemon (Fight every trainer you can and you shouldn't be far off) and you unlock the National Dex, the Pal Park (Which allows you to transfer over six pokémon at a time) and the Poké Radar (which allows you to catch an extreme amount of older pokémon)

HG is the same more or less as platinum.

yeah, you will be able to get almost all of the older pokemon in HG and Platinum through various special mechanics after you get the National Dex

the hardest ones to get are the legendaries, although Heart Gold has many of them and Platinum has just about all of the gen 4 ones

Interesting, cheers guys. That's a shame - I was hoping you could have a selection of any prior pokemon before the Elite Four - that way I could always carry forward my favourite team for the big battle.

What're the post-E4 stories like in each game?

heart gold and soul silver have the largest of any game, just like the original gold and silver

the elite 4 in those games is about only 3/4ths of the way into the game

I haven't been paying attention to Pokémon stuff in a while, so I was just wondering something. I think I recall the devs saying Black/White would really shake up the 'formula'; did that end up happening? Or is it just like, a few new things and that's all?

I'm around, but I don't really want to make the next thread.

Anyone who isn't me or Rockin should think about what they want to do
and when this thread reaches 100 go ahead and do it
