So, as a Protoss in Bronze, most of my victories have come from basically just 4Gate. Because it's bronze, even Terran and Zerg players, who I think aren't supposed to drop to it all that often, tend to kind of just roll over and play dead.
The games where I do get to mid-game tend to turn kind of embarrassing, like when I got destroyed by 10 carriers because well I guess I am pretty bad.
In the interest of not relying on winning in 6-7 minutes every time, what is the recommendation for mid-game Protoss? 3-gate to Robo, grab Observer, maybe an Immortal, go for Collossi/Stargate depending on your scouting? Should I be building before I grab Warp Gates if I'm not doing 4gate?
I guess the next step is also actually using Sentries/HT more than almost never. Also attacking more often. I'm usually surprised by the lack of an army when I do decide to attack "before I'm ready".
Edit: Hm, maybe I'll just keep my eye on my main base and 1A... :P
Macro does tend to win me the games that go long, if I win. I usually end up with over 40 probes to their 25-30.

Honestly, get out of Bronze and then figure it out. You can only learn so much at Bronze because your opponents are doing weird chaotic crap. At Bronze and Silver, almost all Zerg 1 base and dealing with that is completely different than dealing with Zerg at Gold and above for instance. All the lessons I learned in Silver is out the window and all the stuff about blocking the FE are much more relevant at Gold.
Sooo... if that's true then, Joe, you should play some games against the easy or very easy computer and just focus on what perfect macro feels like. Don't bother attacking, you'll autowin whenever you decide to be done, just see how low you can keep your money on one base then two base. Sometimes I just practice doing that to improve my overall macro.

Mashimaro, you have my quote in your sig but not my name
I like to practice against the comp every once in a while too but I do it opposite. I keep my camera on my army and never go to my base, except to make buildings and such.
Sounds so simple but i simply must start hotkeying my support pylon for warp ins, makes so much sense too but i keep forgetting and bumblefucking around to find it when i need reups

You know what I hate when playing terran? Scouting barracks/factories.
I mean, it's a completely legitimate manner of scouting, made possibly by one of the unique aspects of the race. But every time I see, I just get pissed. It's like, "hey, I'm gonna float this building by your base, see everything you're doing, and most likely get away with the building in tact." And I've more than once lost a game because I sent way, WAY too many stalkers after the fucking thing.
I'm not complaining as such, because I'm sure terran gets pissed knowing there's probably an invisible detector seeing all their shit, too. But MAN.

Oh man.
How did I never think of that?
I know right? I had to watch a pro stream to find it out, i saw him hotkey a pylon to 6 and think...well thats stupid, then called myself an idiot and hung my head in shame.

I've been trying to do this too, but I'm bad at it
I feel I'm doing pretty well at this game except for the fact that my supports are just not coming in on time because either I forget to bring a probe along with my attack and thus supports come in slowly when I try to 4gate or I need to use the minimap to go to my pylon, which I do not have the apm for in a micro heavy fight and wish I had hotkeyed a pylon for faster warp ins
this is one small thing I think that makes playing protoss a little harder than other races to play, and that is the fact you often need to take your eyes and hands off a battle to warp in reinforcements while terran can just hit hotkeys without ever taking his eyes off the battle screen
Can we, as a thread, agree to stop using the phrase cheese to describe every single strategy that doesn't involve taking four expansions before the 3 minute mark?
I can very much agree with this.
I'm a silver level who BELONGS at silver level, and play too many other games too much to improve out of it, and I'm ok with that.
If someone out macros or out micros me, or just does better unit comp, I feel totally fine about the loss.
I've even had people do tricky things to me which I lost to BECAUSE I RESPONDED POORLY, and I knew it in the end, and I didn't consider it cheese.
The first that comes to mind was a fellow zerg (I too am zerg) who went quick banelings, and just kept a steady flow against my base. I just didn't respond well and he slowly whittled me to death. I told him very GG and moved on.
What I DO consider cheese are things like:
6 pool
cannon rush
bunker/proxy barracks (oh noes, I missed the hidden whatever arglebargleglargl)
banshee rush (not as much as the others, but fuck you race that can wall off and I HAVE to assume certain things or lose)
My two issues with actual cheese are that: I've been told that it can oft/always be scouted in time to respond, but I don't play the game enough to know WHAT I've just scouted. So my dude gets to your base, I see you have a gas, and a spawning pool done. I now know that...you have a gas and a spawning pool done. Or I push a zergling up your ramp to the wall off, and I see that 2 marines and a marauder killed the zergling, this clearly tells me that...you have 2 marines and a marauder.
Yes, finer minds can derive much more from it, but my mind is full of too much other stuff.
The other issue is that even if I DO scout something cheesy, and I'm like "OMG ZERG RUUUUSH"...that doesn't mean I know how to fix it. I guess I'm supposed to...pull something? Off of something? Or maybe plant a dude into that thing that does that other thing?
I just don't like the ridiculously small margin of error for responding to true and actual cheese.
/rant I guess

I would advocat 4 gating every game to get out of bronze, it is such a bad place to learn anything of substance
He has shown me replays. His macro is suddenly 500% better.
I shall charge 150$ per hour!!!!
Just 1a on the minimap when it's time to attack?

I think our support for it was undercut by GSL coming on and everyone forgetting what we were talking about =-P

i would wall off my ramp with pylons
maybe cancel gateway for forge?
when you see crazy cheese you have to be drastic and quick in response
