Considering the relationship between Epic and Microsoft, I'd be surprised if they even had a choice. And if they did, they'd probably go back to Gamespy since they know it and have used it well before.

Well, gamespy works fine for a server browser. The UT series has always used it, and it works fine there.

Yup, that's pretty much my point. As long as a dev takes the time to implement it properly there is nothing wrong with Gamespy. Borderlands is a good case in how not to implement Gamespy.

This. So far none of the footage particularly impresses me and "look we use profanity we're hardcore woo" is lame. I liked Painkiller, sure, but this feels like what happens after the INTENSE XTREME event horizon gets overshot and falls into a black hole.

Or I could be wrong, and it will be awesome. That would be nice.

Still dubious of the game itself, though.

    It was indeed.

This is going to be another Borderlands, but I bet the shooty part is going to be a whole lot better. I dig me some Borderlands but no matter how I tweak it, the shooting feels mushy.

Come on People Can Fly, don't let me down. Give me that awesome shit you served up in Painkiller.

Hell. This is going to make me play Painkiller again, isn't it? Fine. I'll play Painkiller again.

I would like to pause for a moment, to talk about my penis.
My penis is like a toddler. A toddler—who is a perfectly normal size for his age—on a long road trip to what he thinks is Disney World. My penis is excited because he hasn’t been to Disney World in a long, long time, but remembers a time when he used to go every day. So now the penis toddler is constantly fidgeting, whining “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? How about now? Now? How about... now?”
And Disney World is nowhere in sight.

I shouted "Dickshot!" last night while playing Mass Effect 2. So yeah, a game that rewards that kind of thinking is probably going to be up my alley.

Also, I played a bit of Painkiller last night. It'd been a while so it was kinda fresh again and it really got me looking forward to this. One thing PCF know is weapon combos.

This game looks like prime rental or split-with-a-friend territory. Blow through it in awesome weekend or two to experience all the content, find little reason to replay; try the multiplayer, find it bland and repetitive; move on.

I seem to go the other way with these kinds of games. The more over the top insanity and creativity put into the weapon designs, the more replay value I get out of the game. It's why I think games like Painkiller have aged better than the majority of their contemporaries. People still love to fire up Serious Sam but a lot of the other games that got bigger scores in reviews around that time now feel painfully dated. If they can get that kind of classic feeling level design and creativity with weapon combos while pushing the action sets this thing could end up being a classic in the genre.
