We have a story crisis. Now they want to make a movie from the game Battleship! This is pure desperation, because now the business is governed by the sequel, or what we call it: the franchise. This means turning something already successful into a sequel, because everyone in Hollywood knows how important it is that the movie, before it comes into the cinemas, is already a brand. If the brand has been around, Harry Potter“for example, or Spider-Man, you are light years ahead. And there lies the problem, because unfortunately these brands are always ridiculous. Battleship! This degrades the cinema.
Remember when he made good movies?
In the time I have been alive James Cameron has not made a good movie

You're younger than 17 years old?
I'm 22.
I don't like Terminator 2 and I barely enjoyed Terminator. Its not for me I guess.

ON TOP OF THE BRIDGE TOWER. Hold a beat. We hear screams approaching. Spidey appears and sets her on terra firma. She clings to him, looking down and around in wonder. He has put the world at her feet. She can't believe this is happening to her.
In a dizzying down-angle we see how the suspension cables all meet radially at the top of the tower... like the treads of some vast spider web. Peter and MJ seem to sit at the very center of the web, surrounded by the lights of the city. It is a warm spring night. And the moment is pure magic.
She stands with her back against a girder, needing to feel something solid. Spider Man stands before her, a perfectly formed male silhouette with a soothing low voice.
SPIDER MAN
Courtship among the spiders is highly ritualized. It varies from species to species. The male spider may circle the female, or wave his front legs... to signal that he is not prey.
Spider Man moves in a hypnotic arc around her. He raises his hands in a dance-like movement. Lowers them.
SPIDER MAN
The female usually signals her willingness by an uncharacteristic passivity.
MJ takes a deep breath. Her lip trembles. Her knees are weak. Her eyes, though, are steady, gazing at the silhouette before her. She doesn't move or speak. He moves closer.
SPIDER MAN
In certain crab spiders, such as Xysticus, the male will attach strands of silk to the female... tying her limbs...
Spider Man moves his hand gracefully across her, and she sees the sheerest silk webbing glinting in the moonlight. First one wrist. Then the other. Hypnotic movement in the moonlight. Her arms are bound to the wall. Her breathing gets more rapid.
SPIDER MAN
Since the female can break free at any time, the bonds have only symbolic significance.
MARY JANE
The male must be very bold... to take such liberties with the predatory female.
SPIDER MAN
Yes. He is very bold. But he must also trust her.
(he moves very close)
Close your eyes.
He removes his mask and kisses her. Their mouths very slowly and very sensuously devour each other. Peter and MJ are locked together. He is mesmerizing, gentle, powerful. He pushes up her skirt. They make love, high above the world. She doesn't look.
um so this is incredible
why was this movie never made, this would have been the best scene ever
James Cameron has never made a bad movie, and while you can argue that his films are formulaic, and he has made two sequels (one of which completely shook up the formula to the original and became a classic in its own right, and the other did a similar thing and was based on his own original concept, again, how 'original' it was is up for debate, but in a literal sense that it was not part of a franchise or brand name it was original), his point about reliance on brands is valid and is hardly something he can be accused of hypocrisy over with any accuracy.
I mean whether or not you thought avatar sucked or was dances with wolves, it still was not a brand and everyone thought he was taking a huge risk (it turned out he wasnt, and he never really has, but again another argument).
Its not so much that he's throwing stones in his glass house, maybe something slightly more solid than glass but not exactly bricks and mortar?
Cameron does have a point with the branding, but he is still a bit of a hypocrite with his sequels/franchise comment. Also he seems to believe that no movie based on an existing brand can be good and that is just ridiculous. The Social Network has a good chance of winning this year's oscar for Best Picture for pete's sake
I actually disagree with him entirely, but I dont think hes being hypocritical, just narrowminded. I mean theres nothing about brands that dull creativity, or sequels for that matter, as he has proven with his own sequels. As long as the films good who cares what its intellectual property source is?
And frankly there are a shittonne of non-brand and non-franchise films being made that are awesome and do well.
I was also less excited with the trailer, but I think it's just because I loved the first one a lot (music was perfect) and I hadn't seen any of the footage before.
If you're interested you should just check out the original Swedish film
It really compresses and cuts out a lot of the extraneous bullshit from the book

At least not in my opinion
You're younger than 17 years old?
You can read it here along with looking at the storyboards
technically it's a "treatment", not a script
but yes it is 100% real
I'm 22.
I don't like Terminator 2 and I barely enjoyed Terminator. Its not for me I guess.
Dear Lord
Were you a special kid?
edit:
Which would also mean you didn't like True Lies
These are sad times
Someone should hide that spidey stuff from a person that takes that rape list thing to heart
edit:
I really enjoyed Peter's surprised face when he learned that MJ was really a man.
That's one strong square jaw.
For a movie that I'm sure they spent lots of money on it looks... cheap, somehow
he even looks like italian spider-man guy in this picture

Don't know why.
Michelle Rodriguez was visible in it and opened her mouth
which i guess is good enough
I admit I was skeptical but they did a good job of gothin' her up
...?

The real point here is that the movie that already exists is Sex With That Girl You Were Always Hot For In High School perfect.
I like a lot of the actors and the director, but damn, this is a perfect example of a remake that didn't need to be made.
ha ha ha!
okay I'll see about renting the movie
