[TUGS], a kid's show of it's time!

Looking back at my childhood, remembering about all the shows I used to watch and what supposably shaped me to who I am. I'm pretty sure many of you as well have at one time went on to YouTube to watch episodes of those shows. Back then as well, kid's shows actually taught you a valuable lesson but instead now they have little stereotype girls asking you where the piece of paper is for 10 seconds when you can see it in plain sight.

There was this one show that not many of you would have heard of which I grew up with. The show "TUGS", was the sister television series to Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends (another great show which has now like many not what it used to be) which like it used live-action models but unlike it had a bit more darker tone. Like it's name implied, featured a bunch of tug boats who were contracted to do odd jobs and of course the usual problem happened with other rival boats and gangsters. As well the show as set during the 1920s.
Plus unlike most kid's shows, this one had characters threatening to sink others, some characters getting blown-up, explosions, racial stereotypes and slang talk. The show had a decent following and kind of still does, however it only went for 13 episodes due to the company producing it went bankrupt and all the models were then reused for Thomas. However eventually scenes from the show were used to make new stories in the US show "Salty's Lighthouse", however it was more child friendly like any show these days.

If you haven't seen it, you can watch the first episode in two parts here:

So discuss whether you've seen this forgotten classic show and/or any other shows you grew up with as a kid.

Aww yiss, you pushed my button! :D The video cassette I had of these has practically disintegrated from how much I watched it. It was pretty mature for a kids show I thought.

I think this was called Theodore the Tugboat where I lived.

    I watched it a lot.

No, that was a different show with different models. I think one of TUGS' makers was involved in it.

I have never seen TUGS, but I am well familiar with Thomas and I think that show is creepy as hell. All the trains sitting there, eyes rolling madly in their sockets, looking just a wee bit unhinged...

Hell, just look at RMS's avatar up there - that train is waiting for just the right moment to run your ass down.

I can appreciate that the Uncanny Valley can make them a little spooky, but these engines taught me what different facial expressions meant, thanks to my autism robbing me of the ability to intuitively understand this.

I still have some of the videos and books. Pretty much most TUGS merchandise is rare can some can go for high price. I saw on ebay the die-cast models unopened go as high as 100 and the hardback photo books at least 50.

Anyway, here's another episode of the show which I enjoyed:
