Well I can't beat it anymore. It took 30 guesses for the Master Control Program, but it gets everything else I throw at it in 20. I'm out!

It just guessed the mythological Cassandra.

And how does it guess Jaimi Lannister without asking if he's blonde or fights with a sword? Though it did ask if he was a midget, so I was that close to Tyrion.

I don't get why people find these 20 questions things so impressive.

It's just a decision tree with lots of entered data.

First year computer science students commonly have to make one of these for homework.

You ask a Yes or No question. Based on the users response, you go down the appropriate branch in the tree to the next node. If the node is a question you ask it. If the node is a final answer, you submit that as the user's guess. If this final answer isn't correct, ask the user to enter what they were searching for and a question that would help differentiate their expected answer from the guess. A new question node is thus created to separate the two options.

After people use the tree for a long time it naturally populates with many types of possibilities.

Personally, I just like to see how obscure I can get without stumping it. I imagine it's the same for most people.

Heh; I remember this thing from a while ago. Playing with it again, it was able to guess Wojtek the Soldier Bear pretty easily. It's definitely getting a larger bank of answers to guess as time passes.

Why, yes. Isaac Clarke is an Engineer.

It had real problems with Henry the 4th, since almost everything he did is too random and obscure for the questions it has on it's decision tree. Still, I guess that's a bit like picking someone who isn't really famous. I'm sure it would have got it eventually by guessing english kings.

Took 28 questions to get Olivia Dunham from Fringe, but around the 20th it guessed that Olivia chick from Law & Order SVU

And it got Gurgi from Black Cauldron in 17 questions, was not expecting that

I went with Sora from Kingdom Hearts just to see how quickly it would get it. After I'd said it was a male video game character, one of the first things it asked was whether he had a keyblade. That must've been blind luck, I was nowhere near specific enough at that point.

It asked me the same thing when I was going for Leonard from White Knight Chronicles.

It's just trying to rule out the most obvious choices. For example, at least half of my attempts with it asked me if my character was silver-haired.

No, I'm not thinking of Sephiroth. But not a bad guess considering I said my character used a Sword, could Transform, and is "Partially" controllable.

I just noticed the "Details" link that shows what answers it expected.

Considering some of the answers people give (e.g. Did you know that Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxy is sterile and can't have children? I certainly didn't), it's surprising how well it does.
