You're essentially advocating using a tragedy to further a political goal that may or may not have anything to do with the actual event.
No, I'm advocating that when something shitty happens, we try to fix what caused it. Not something unrelated.

Mentally ill people bent on assassination will probably be detered by the loss of their ability to purchase certain kinds of weapons.

Good call. Very common-sensy of you.

Pretty sure access to extended magazines didn't cause this.
    It sure as hell helped.
A seriously unbalanced man who didn't get the treatment he needed caused this.
That's true. And I'd like to do something about that.

    "SHUT UP FASCIST REACTIONARY!"

If there's no upside to something, but there is an obvious and visible downside to something, it is absolutely something that should be looked at legally. That's not reactionary, that's just looking at the data.

Yeah, I missed the writeup of the aftermath of the stabbings, my bad. So it's comparable.

But then, knives and trucks are both valuable to society, and I have yet to see convincing evidence that 30 round clips are.

    Here's the thing, though.

Anyone with the internet can figure out how to cook meth. That doesn't mean we shouldn't regulate access to the stuff that goes into it.

Just because steps can fail to prevent bad stuff doesn't mean they shouldn't be taken.

    Yeah.

One of those situations actually fucking happened and resulted in widely touted federal regulations. The other is a ridiculous hypothetical that involves an armed man and an apparently unarmed lynch mob.

How is it ridiculous to suggest there's no upside to extended magazines? In what non-Mad Max situation does a lawful gun owner need to fire more than 15 (I believe that's the size of a normal magazine for this particular weapon) shots before reloading?
