Gaslight was on TCM earlier today. (Well yesterday, now.)
It's still really good!
Yeah, I saw that when I was flipping channels. It's been a very long time since I've seen it, I was a kid at the time actually...my mom was a big TCM fan. Don't really remember much about it. The movie actually has nothing to do with my handle, someone here on the forum just reminded me of it a while back and linked me to some posters and I was like hell, why not.
Steampunk has somehow reached the backlash point without there ever really being a major steampunk game or movie.
Good steampunk is really, really hard to do. It's a complex aesthetic that necessarily brings along a great deal of cultural baggage regarding colonialism, industrial dehumanization, and how airships were never really all that great. Interesting, but not the stuff blockbusters are made out of.
As for the backlash, bad steampunk is both easy to do and highly visible when taken out in public. So many people who might otherwise be interested in the setting have it vaguely filed away under "wankers in waistcoats."
(Does Killzone have anything to do with steampunk? It looks sort of industrial, but I don't want to get reamed for wandering too far off topic in the new comic thread.)

The problem with this is that nobody has actually played Killzone.
Still, that looks like a coffee maker than gets results.
I was in Gamestop last week, stupidly browsing, and I decided to pick up Arkham Asylum for the PS3 since I'd only played it on 360. The "woman" stationed behind the counter then harassed me about Killzone 3. Told me I needed to preorder it that very moment or I would never ever get my hands on it.

We need a decent steampunk film to kick off the trend.
