Will you be having some beginner games going as well? My brother and I bought a starter deck along with a few booster decks about a year ago and we're still pretty new to the game. We play by ourselves all the time, but it'd be nice to be able to play with other people who are still semi-new to the game as well.

Either way, I'll be stopping by to check out the action!

I would say show up either way. Even if there aren't specific events for beginners, I can guarantee you that there will always be people around willing to play a few pick-up games.

Intro deck league is a great place for beginners. It only costs $15.00. Players receive an intro deck and a booster pack. After every third game you get a prize. You can play anytime the event area is open with other players in the open league or one of our demo dudes and dudetts. It is just fun!

So you'll be doing the intro league again? I missed doing it last year but this year I'm going to do my best to participate. Will there be folks walking new players through the game? It's been 10 years or so since I played in person and I know quite a bit has changed...

I've seen people play this game around me for more than 15 years and I have yet to actually play a game, though I've always wanted to! I also meant to buy myself a deck but I have no idea what to start with, and besides I don't see myself playing much as most of my geek friends are not into card games.

    Spoiler of shame
I even bought Magic The Gathering online and I have yet to boot it for lack of time/fear!

I'm really interested in this concept and I'll definitely join up. Do we need to sign up? Are there limited spots? First come first served?

    Tom, 2 questions.

    1. Will the prize support for the events be similar to last year? I was so close to one of the full sets for Mini-master last year (top 8) and would love to have something like that to aim for again.

    2. I somehow missed out on the special convention Kor Skyfisher that was given out last year. Do you happen to know how I can get ahold of the Bloodthorn Vampire that is being given out this year? I wasn't sure if it's given out where the events are or at the Wizards booth in the convention hall.

Thanks for making the events awesome last year, and here's hoping for bigger and better!

    To answer a few questions.

We will have demos so everyone can learn to play magic from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm daily. We are in the set up process for our area. Our goal is to set aside many more seats dedicated to intro pack league than last year.

Events will be capped so we can offer better service for our players. Capping events has led us to make several changes. We are creating another level of mini master.

Mini Master will be a $10.00 event, one booster pack, 15 land shuffle up and play. After each match win the winning player will receive an additional booster to rebuild their deck with. These events will be capped at 32 players. Win 2 matches and you will win prizes! Capped at 32 will help us bring you a FUN, FAST, event. Round 1 takes very little time, shuffle up and play!

SUPER MINI MASTER will feature the big prizes. We are still working out with Wizards what those prizes will be. Once our schedule is fully approved we will post it on these forums.

We didn't schedule any constructed events on this year's schedule. We certainly will run anything that 8 players want to play. Last year the type two event didn't do that well.

Overall our goal this year is to run MORE smaller events. Capping the events will help us start on time. We are using a new bracket board system for mini master. It worked great at New York Comic Con. Players always knew where to go, did not wait for pairings and were able to finish their events faster than anticipated. Overall mini master ran much smoother at NYCC than last year's PAX East. We listened to your feedback and changed things up.

We want to be able to help players enjoy Magic they want to. Intro pack league, more smaller mini master events and capped Team Mini Master will help us do just that.

We do have several sealed events as well. Super Friday Night Magic will be our one uncapped event. Come one come all Super Friday Night Magic will be just that. We are also going to have some really cool door prizes. Please continue to provide us with your wants and needs.

    See you there

The Mini-masters events at west last year were fun but funky, as the rules ended up being much different than what was posted.

I would love to see some INSANE draft formats.

    A few questions for everyone.

What is an insane draft format?

What do you think about 8 man mini master?

The rules confusion on mini master ONLY existed with the team format which was brand new. We are still tweaking that one.

We are also looking to see what the interest level would be for a signed litho by Rob Alexander as a league prize versus a Magic the Gathering backpack.

    please let me know

I propose Anti-Draft: Draft an awefull awefull deck then everyone pick a random face down deck and try to win with it. Obviously the last cards pick will be the awesome cards and you might end up with something playable!

A backpack, anyone can get, right?

A signed litho on the other hand has a nice unique factor to it.

Super Friday Night magic sounds pretty awesome.

I like the idea of the awful draft, players try to draft as bad as they can, then they all put their cards they drafted face down, then each player picks a deck (while not picking their own to insure no cheating) at random or maybe is assigned one based on seat arrangement or something.

Anti-drafts have an additional level of complication that makes them better-suited for times that are less hectic than PAX. In particular, your scoring system needs to award points not only for matches you win, but also for matches your deck loses. If you don't keep track of that latter category, then you don't properly reward someone's excellent-terrible drafting skill.

Does anyone know if there will be Magic artists at PAX East this year? I didn't really pay attention last year, since it was the intro decks from PAX East that got me back into Magic after the convention. How about cool, MTG merch - would that be available in the Magic gaming area?

I'd like to see some draft formats that were never really meant to exist, like maybe Ice Age or something wild like Fallen Empires/Chronicles... Basically, draft formats that people haven't really got pick orders memorized for the last few years. If it's a draft format you were probably playing at FNM or a tourney, it's probably not something I'd want to do at PAX - we have all year to do the regular stuff!

I loved Magic back in high school and college. Sadly that was quite a while ago (4th edition). I'd love to play some magic over the weekend. But I don't want to bring out my old decks.

I'd love to do a classic draft early in the weekend with some folks (what's the right number for a draft? 4? 6? how many boosters per person again? and we'd need land.... will there be a cheap source of land out there or should I bring my own?) then continue using that drafted deck all weekend. Assuming it isn't so crying terrible I want to torch it. Are there lots of people interested in this so I can have fun games all weekend?

I could attach a magic card to my badge so people knew I was looking for a game.

I will have my EDH/Commander decks with me. Hoping to battle while waiting in lines for various panels.

EDH/Commander 4-mans would be fun to play in, maybe do something like pay $5 and have a small prize support for them? I'd definitely do at least a few of those if they were around.

I'll have my EDH stuff, too. In fact, I'm putting together an Atogatog deck to debut at PAX East!

Oh man, this schedule looks AWESOME! I cannot wait for FNM at PAX East or playing Team Mini-Master with my wife.

Lucky Bastard, your wife plays Magic. I never, ever met any girl who 'enjoys' playing Magic.

We're out there, somewhere. I'm playing Magic right now (seriously, though the XBL version since I have no one here to play with currently).

Can anyone clarify what product will be available for drafting? Will it just be scars and besieged or will there be older sets as well?

Please forgive my noobishness, but just to be clear, there's no Intro deck league this year?

I've only ever played magic online, and even then just enough to get a basic understanding of the rules. I was really hoping to pick up some actual magic cards at PAX and learn to play better, cause the little I have played I REALLY enjoyed. If there's no intro deck league, does that mean I should, um, find some magic cards before heading to PAX?

I really hope not, cause I have no clue how to go about finding them or creating my own deck....

Thanks for putting up the lists. Is there a printable copy anywhere (something like the schedules listed on the main pax site)?

I'm guessing they might do the same thing they did last year, where there was a pre-constructed intro deck in each of the swag bags when you first get there. They're 30 or so cards, and they're really good for playing a pick-up game in lines.

There's also the Mirrodin War League, which is just a fancy way of saying an Intro League with a twist. It's in the OP, under the "Ongoing" spoiler.
