Play the games in the Potato Sack to help get an earlier release of Portal 2 on Steam!
The Portal 2 test project is a new initiative from Aperture Science. It is a follow up to the hugely successful Portal test project. This new test is longer and features cooperative testing in addition to the already well known individiual testing. This time the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device is not the only element featured in the testing. There will also be propulsion and repulsion gels, excursion funnels and more!
Shown here is Aperture Science opening it's doors for you!
The testing is open for users of PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 systems and begins on April 19th with it being available throughout the world in the following days.
An excursion funnel being redirect by portals! Also shown is the Aperture Science turret.

The Portal 2 test project is running on advanced systems, not all of which Aperture Science is in complete control of. This can prevent certain test participants from interacting with each other. Aperture Science is pleased to inform that users of PC, Mac and Playstation 3 can all perform the cooperative testing together, all thanks to the advanced Steam system. You can read more about
how the Portal 2 test project for Playstation 3 interacts with Steam here. Test subjects performing the testing on Xbox 360 system can only attempt the cooperative testing with subjects also being tested on Xbox 360 systems.

Every preview just says something along the lines of "Chell is back" or "Chell returns."
Replay Portal 1, they added a new ending which explains a bit of it.
The gamestop ones look like they're wearing special needs helmets.
I wasn't crazy about the first game at all
I liked the idea of portals, and puzzles using portals, but sticking me in "puzzle rooms" is nine kinds of boring
But Portal 2 is like an actual game, right? That's something I could get behind if it were true
And naturally I'd get the PS3 version
Maybe Amazon will get some skins?
edit: and now I'm going to replay Portal again, just because
The first Portal was all sorts of a game. Yes, it had puzzle rooms, but if you paid attention to your surroundings and listened to the computer, there was a very intriguing story behind it all.
I never actually finished it; like I said, I really don't like the whole "puzzle room" thing, it reminds me of time trials in other games. I need a driving narrative behind it, and the only narrative I was getting was "This AI that is talking to me is a smart-ass and obviously has no concern for my well-being."
I thought the writing for GLaDOS was really, really overrated.
Those CDON.com skins are actually quite attractive. Hopefully the Steam version gets them as well (or something even better!)
Just, just go finish it.
It gets so cool dammit.
and then say there's no driving narrative.
There's absolutely a narrative if you looked at the obvious holes in the walls and did a bit of exploring. It's much like Morrowind in that you don't know what the hell's going on unless you look for answers.
I highly recommend another play-through in that case. Soon enough, you stop following her orders, get out of the puzzle rooms, and all sorts of stuff. The narrative is there, but it isn't told to you in cut-scenes or [strike]written on the walls[/strike] fed to you.
YOU ARE WRONG, SIR
LET US NOW HAVE A TEN PAGE ARGUMENT ON THIS ISSUE
In the last part of the game you get out of the puzzle rooms, but it's not like that brings huge changes to how the game is played.
Ahhh, this brings back memories
It's an actual, Half-Life 2 length game from what I hear, not a 3 hour or so diversion that Portal 1 was.
I don't know what you paid for it, but The Orange Box was a full priced game at launch.

It remains to be seen if Portal will do well as a standalone, fifty dollar game.
Just for reference, the ending to the 360 version that I saw was
Is there a better/newer ending in the Steam version?
At the time, the Orange Box included a multiplayer game with only six maps, 3 games that ranged from 3 to 6 hours long, and a 3 year old game that most everyone already had anyway.
Portal 2's campaign is twice as long as Portal 1 (So around six hours) and the co-op campaign is about the same length (so another six hours), so it's not like it's lacking in content.
And seriously, after Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, if you really expected Valve to keep giving out packages like the Orange Box, then you're in denial.
Yes.
They added a little bit extra to the Steam ending shortly before Portal 2 was announced.
And besides, it's not really fair to compare it to The Orange Box. You can pretty much compare every single game ever released at the $50 price point to The Orange Box, and it won't look like a good deal.
You mean 3 segments. A short singleplayer episode, a shorter puzzle / experiment, and a multiplayer component. They just chucked in the two old games, which I'm guessing didn't mean much to most of us because we already had them to begin with.
The overall length of Ep2 and Portal combined was still less than that of Half-Life 2. And HL2 came with Counter-Strike for its "multiplayer" component.
This is going to be a full singleplayer game (about double the length of Portal) and a full co-op campaign (double again). So about four times the size of the first game.
Still, if you think the price is that bad or something you could always just wait for the sale.
To 360 players, that box was a hell of a deal
please point out where I said the price was bad or unreasonable.
Orange Box was like, the best 50 bucks I've ever spent ever.

I said if you did you could wait for the sale. If not then I'm guessing you'll likely buy it early on like a lot of other people will.
People making comparisons with the Orange Box for value though, are silly. It just reminds me of the griping over Left 4 Dead again.
Anyone got a handy recipe for some nerve gas?
It's a joke protest. They're making fun of the Left 4 Dead 2 protesters.
