3d maps aren't anything new, and apparently map companies have been paying folks to drive around for a long time videotaping vast swaths of real estate for use in making maps. Just sticking the two together isn't really all that novel. Awesome, yes. Novel? Non-obvious to a person following technology with a little insight? not really.
Hell, I posted some big long rant about it a few months back. Had the thing in a sticky note on my google homepage for ages. Since before christmas. Now... I'm not implying that I am somehow special. I'm saying it is just rather obvious, as is pimping it out to businesses. Hell, how sweet is that for hotels and shit? Tied in with the user created stuff they are doing in google earth, of course.
