I've seen far too many posts in the last 12 hours looking for an explination about JAIL. So I am now here to discuss it with you. I will probably do one in RP as well, but I know most of you won't come over an participate. So...
Jail is the combination of a number of ideas that have been thrown around in RP over the last few months. The idea is:
1) Since jail is less serious than banning, we can use it for slighter infractions in order to get a point across that we are serious that we think you need to adjust your foruming a bit.
2) Because jail prevents the user from actually committing the most frequent bannable offenses, we can jail people first, providing them a second chance when they fuck up. The mods can see history on jailing (unlike banning) so we will know how often you have gotten into trouble over the last x months and be able to make a better decision if you should be permabanned.
3) because jail is quick and easy ( button appears next to every post ), and applies retroactively, we should be faster than ever in blocking goatse and such things.
4) Because we get occasional complaints about lack of mod coverage, there will be deputy mods appointed who will have the ability to jail users. They wil not have the ability to un-jail users, only mods will. Deputies will not be members of the mod forum. They will not have access to IP addresses or any other mod functions.
5) It is my intention to give a variety of forumers the opportunity to be deputy mods. They obviously don't have the power of persuasion that a mod has, but we will pick people that we think exemplify good foruming, as an example to others of what it means to be a good forumer.
A jailed user has the following: avatar is replaced with the jailed user icon, and their title is locked. Signature is removed from all posts. Posts are constrained to prevent H-Scroll and V-Scroll damage. bbcode and smiley's are disabled. The quote button is taken away. They can only post once every 2 minutes instead of every 50 seconds.

Good to know I'm not TOTALLY out of the running then. And I think this is a very good idea, so long as people don't whine about being jailed and then get banned; it'd be pointless, you could just skip the middle step.

Pretty much exactly what I planned on saying. Also, being a Deputy, if that's what the actual name is going to be, sounds bitchin'. Lately, since I just got broadband (its faster, but now I don't have to get offline so other people can use the phone), I've been spending several hours a day here, so this Deputy deal seems to have come at just the right time.
I'm just kidding...
