Been looking for some stereotypical male influence, and I figure the quickest and easiest place to find it is on DVD. Current list consists of:
Fight Club - Tyler Durden
Unforgiven - William Munny
Goldfinger - James Bond
Die Hard - John McClane
Clear and Present Danger - Jack Ryan
The Godfather/Godfather II - Vito Corleone
If you can't tell, my cinematic experience is woefully underdeveloped. Suggestions are highly appreciated.
Haha, Yeah I guess I should clarify - this is purely for entertainment purposes. I'm studying Russian literature and getting a little too deeply involved with the human condition, and I figure a good counterbalance would be some action/adventure flicks with strong lead characters and lots of testosterone. Read: the antithesis of Prince Myshkin, Raskolnikov, et al.
There's an obscure-ish movie that I saw a few years ago that's about a typical average guy being a role-model to a younger boy. About a Boy is the name. I dunno.
Honestly, I love George Clooney's Danny Ocean from the Ocean films.
He seems out of his mind, but he always has complete control of every single situation, and is twenty steps ahead of everyone else. Also, in that same style, Brad Pitt's Rusty Ryan. Always has the right thing to say, always wears a perfect, razor-cut suit, and is quick on his feet.
Seriously, this is a real movie starring Christopher Walken.
Ahahahahah
AHAHAHAHHAHAHA
Butthorn.
I hope we're talking about the same McBane.
EDIT: We are not talking about the same McBane.
No.
This McBain grabs some army buddies and takes over Colombia because the dictator killed his friend.
Like 5 dudes take over an entire country.
I have to admit, that sounds pretty damn close to exactly what I'm looking for :P
Some of these I feel retarded for not having through of first. Evil Dead's Ash is the personification of machismo, and Indiana Jones is right up there with Die Hard as a necessary staple. Oceans 11 & 12, and Man on Fire make the list just for situational badassery. Thanks - keep throwing 'em out if you've got 'em
Go old school with anything with Gregory Peck. Duel in the Sun, Gentleman's Agreement, Twelve O'Clock High. He is absolutely everything a man should be.
He really should say "macho archetype" or something.
Oh, I see... well, I guess I must have missed that bit. Thanks for the clarification.
In that case:
I liked Leonard DiCaprio in Blood Diamond.
The Rocketeer
Daredevil
The Mod Squad
Die Hard
Lethal Weapon
Braveheart
the Fifth Element
The Rock
Blade
The Matrix
Pirates of the Caribbean?
Die Hard with a Vengeance
Troy
Black Hawk Down
300
Last Man Standing
U-571
haha. I may not be helping, just naming off a few of my absolute favorite action films...
and I'm sorry but the wrath of Grindhouse, must be known in this thread.
And I saw "About A Boy" as suggested. I really don't recommend this movie for a number of reasons. In terms of this topic? I don't see how it fits. In terms of bad movies? Well, when I saw it when I was 11, I thought it was terrible.
P.S. - If you ever get into video games with male role-models, look no further than Metal Gear Solid 3. Within the first two hours of play you will see great things.

because man, you must live one fucking crazy (and awesome) life if you think those are "good" male role models! :O
most of all, most of all

That would be the best kid ever
Good Will Hunting
most Denzel Washington Flicks
joke option Major Payne :P
Coach Taylor - Friday Night Lights (TV series) - free online on the NBC website
EDIT: Oh, nevermind.
Such a good suggestion I'm going to lime myself.
the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
Edit: Yes, Feral, if you hadn't done it, I would've. Also Army of Darkness.
I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?
Terminator 1 & 2
Boondock Saints
Man on Fire
Tango & Cash (just a cheesy, goofy buddy-cop movie)
The Matrix
Speed

I was thinking of Bulletproof with Gary Busey, in which Busey pours unfiltered cigarette tobacco into his partner's mouth to wake him up from a nap.
Then he sneaks up on the badguys, and says things like 'Bird season's over, butthorn'.
I have to admit, that sounds pretty damn close to exactly what I'm looking for :P

Rutger Hauer at his finest.
Also, Escape from New York/LA, and Big Trouble in Little China for some Kurt Russell action.
Also, Commando.
Steve McQueen
Clint Eastwood
The Rocky Series.
Triple X?
What do you consider... Good rolemodels?

A Perfect World - Kevin Costner's character
Raoul Duke (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) - as played by Johnny Depp
more specifically big trouble in little china and tombstone
after this not turning up in searches on netflix and criticker, link? I'm hoping this isn't tongue in cheek
Yeah, running inside to his mother screaming, 'YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE I'VE BEEN!'
Nope, it would appear that it's real.
Now I really want to see it. It has Walken AND Michael Ironside?!
I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?
but I can't confirm that personally, it's from a third party source.
Third party source is usually reliable.
tough *and* moral.
ENOUGH SAID!
