In the coming days, be sure to look our for parts two and three, where we discuss Guild Wars 2′s user interface, the sylvari redesign, Daniels career goals and the games he likes to play.
Also, e-mail from ANet concerning upcoming convention dates:
Comic-Con - 20-24 July 2011: We'll be visiting this mecca for all things pop cultural in San Diego, California, North America this year. More details to come!
Gamescom - 17-21 August 2011: Europe's largest game show in beautiful Cologne, Germany, is definitely on our list. We'll have a demo build of Guild Wars 2, plenty of devs on hand to meet fans and answer questions, and some cool surprises.
PAX - 26-28 August 2011: There's no way we'd miss PAX Prime, a legendary three-day gaming festival in Seattle, Washington, North America. We've got big plans for this year's PAX, so stay tuned!
buffed: What do you do in GW2 engame? Raids and dungeons?
Peters: Most important about GW2 is that we aren't talking about "endgame". That means the game isn't supposed to change a lot, just because one hit the maximum level. While you level you do events, dungeons, if you want to, you do world PvP, and that's just what you will do at level 80. Who enjoyed events will roam the world and search for them. Who preferred instances will visit some specifically made for level 80 and some already visited. For that there is a special repetition mode with new and different tasks.
buffed: But usually people visit instances to get good equipment. Don't you have to do that in GW2?
Peters: No, you won't be forced to do so. You can get good equipment out of large dynamic events or world PvP. The difference between dungeon, event, and PvP equipment will primarily be the appearance and not how good it is.
buffed: Does the same apply for crafted equipment?
Peters: Absolutely. There is high level crafted equipment.

I'm guessing beta codes for Gamescom and PAX attendees. I'd hate to see them announce the last two classes at those places because they're half a year away, but that's also a possibility.
It's like whoever made this video said to themselves, "what does Wishpig want to see?"
A big, scared up, bearded, dual hand cannon wielding Norn in a pink outfit. That's exactly how I was envisioning my character would look for months now.
That said, GODDAMMIT female Norns look like shit. C'mon devs have some fucking balls and step away from the cliche' fantasy woman supermodel mold. I want to see barbarian women with six packs who look like they could KO a polar bear. The current female Norns look like I could kick their ass... that's terrible.
THAT is what they should look like. Not like a famous porn star.
Wishpig on
WARNING: Picture below may cause spontaneous growth of facial hair and/or body hair.
The Norn women are definitely more built than human women. Can see it in the gamespot 10 min combat video Around 3:20. Not quite as much as that artwork though.
We don't know very much about visual character customization yet, and all of the norn we've seen so far have been in promotional materials. I'm not going to hold out hope for customization on the level of EVE Online (for one thing, I would never get around to actually playing the game), but it's too early to abandon all hope of being able to create female norn who are less idealized sexual fantasy object and more idealized rip-off-your-head-and-shit-down-your-neck fantasy object.
Mostly just huntin' monsters.

I like that they made skill videos, but they suffer a bit from "let's make them long to get bang for our buck". Each of these videos could easily lose 10 seconds or more and they'd be better for it.
You know what? If that were real, it would be amazing. I would play the shit out of a gun focused special ops type guy, all fantasied up to hurl alchemical devices and such.
I would absolutely play a game with a modern military in a fantasy setting. Bonus points if I could fight something Shatterer-esque from an attack helicopter.

I liked the official concept art for Norn women
They looked very athletic and powerful without necessarily alienating the "I WANT TNA TOO" crowd
The nipple cymbals argue your statement. The concept art looks badass, but just throwing some ab definition seems like a cheap method. The trailer definitely shows how awesome Arena is with their models though.
The pic from Wishpig would be pretty awesome - minus the orc face.
First thing that comes to mind would be Final Fantasy games for mixing magic and modern-ish technology. It's a cool concept, but Tyria is not that advanced technologically yet. They are moving along though quite nicely though. Currently around the 17th or 18th century equivalent.
GW3 could be something like the industrial revolution period.

Well, you could always go with the timetravel/alternative dimension excuse.
I would just like to see some dev just go "Fuck it, let's make things crazy" and just put in an anachronistic modern soldier into a fantasy setting.

I may actually buy a game soundtrack for once.

More about art than GW2 specifically. However:
Also, e-mail from ANet concerning upcoming convention dates:
Also also, an interview with Jon Peters. In German, but here's the translation.

Some people only like to play pretty characters.

They're pretty neat videos, though.
LoL: failboattootoot
I did enjoy the one where they call in the Attack Helicopters on the Shatterer.
"That's one big chicken"
XBL:Phenyhelm - 3DS:Phenyhelm
The Wilhelm Scream in the sniper video was a nice touch.
Now the real gun class has to be just as crazy cool.
I'm adding this and the other linked stuff to the OP.
Nice.

Ancient Norn magic.
I think they are painted on.
Also, that picture linked by Wishpig is D&D related, from Icewind Dale II's character creator. She's supposed to be a half-orc barbarian.
Also Also, charr commandoes would be sweet, hence my desire to see the real god damn gun class already.
Has any other game ever tried to introduce a modern-day soldier in a fantasy setting?
It sounds awesome.

No kidding. I would totally play a game that is commandos vs fantasy monsters. That would be rad as fuck.
I never asked for this!
