Because I love all things Rally, this is a thead about DiRT 3.
Before I say anything else, let me get this out of the way:

What is DiRT 3?
DiRT 3 (to be referred to as D3 for the rest of this post) is a rally game from Codemasters. It is the latest iteration of the Colin McRae Rally series, though for fans of the classic games the DiRT series has been a major departure from what they felt the spirit of the originals were.
Codemasters has this to say, from the official page:
Coming 2011, DiRT 3 will boast more cars, more locations, more routes and more events than any other game in the series, including over 50 rally cars representing the very best from five decades of the sport. With more than double the track content of 2009s hit, DiRT 3 will see players start at the top as a professional driver, with a top-flight career in competitive off-road racing complimented by the opportunity to express themselves in Gymkhana-style showpiece driving events.
As players race to elevate their global standing, DiRT 3 delivers mud, sweat and gears world over: from the intense weather-beaten rally stages of Europe, Africa and the US, to executing performance driving showcases and career challenges where car control is pushed to spectacular limits. DiRT 3 is now in development at Codemasters Studios for a 2011 release for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION3 computer entertainment system and PC Games For Windows LIVE.
Who is Ken Block?
Ken Block, if you haven't heard of him by now, is a driver in the World Rally Championship and the founder of DC Shoes. He is also well known for his Gymkhana videos on the Youtubes.
He became the new "face" of the series starting with DiRT 2, likely due to his internet fame.

D3 is currently listed for release worldwide on May 24th, 2011 on X360, PS3, and PC.
Key Features
First of all, let's get this out of the way: This is a Codemasters game. No matter how many times they say "most realistic ever" and "most accurate physics", this will not be a hardcore sim along the lines of Richard Burns Rally. The hardcore sim fans have never been happy with the physics of this series and likely never will be.
For the rest of us, it'll likely be just as fun as ever to sling a car through the gravel.
A few of the promised features:
-Over 50 cars, from classic rally cars of the 60's & 70's, to the monsters of the Group B era, to modern WRC.
-More courses than D2
-More overall focus on rally, less of the X-Games focus that D2 had
-Gymkhana mode
-Dynamic weather system; rain, snow now included.
-Deforming terrain as you drive through a course

D2 proved to be pretty popular here when a number of people in the Steam thread picked it up over the holidays. D3 looks to be just as much fun, if not more so. It might even be one of a few games I'd consider a "day one" purchase, but that's just me. :winky:

I don't care for the MP much, I just love driving; slinging my car through turns and floating over rolling hills.
Day one purchase here, probably PC as I don't have access to the 360 as much as I'd like (netflix + kids).
Plus it had Robby Gordon's Hummer from the Dakar Rally
Yeah, it's an unfortunate trade off on the PC. Better graphics, framerate for no DLC. Honestly considering the price to value ratio, you're probably better off without the temptation though.
In February 2009, Codemasters revealed plans to release "a number of small DLC packs soon after launch which players can use to personalise and augment the boxed game".[13] At the time of release, however, only two DLC options were available: "Trust Fund", which unlocks all vehicles, liveries and upgrades, and "Access All Areas", which unlocks all events and tracks.[14] There have been no further DLC releases.

I really wish they'd include the Rally seasons they had in CMR04 and before. Heck, my favorite was from CMR2.
I went to the WRC Mexico Rally 2011 last month, it was great fun and seeing Ken Block in person is definitely weird after playing Dirt 2 so much, since he calls you by your name in-game, and acts as your buddy there, so once you see him in person, it feels weird because you have a sensation that he actually knows you in real life :P

This addition brings the price to a hefty $300, but considering that you'd normally pay $550 for the car, it's...technically a bargain?
