Puppies... no, we didn't need puppies

I will spare you all the story of how we ended up with two 7 week old daschund-pekingese mix puppies.

I guess they need names.

I like Bruiser for the male, and we were thinking maybe Sophie for the bitch. She's the smart one by far, she needs a smart name. The male is much bolder than his sister, and correspondingly he's *ahem* not exactly a brain trust.

I'm open to suggestions, but we're not going with anything overly nerdy, mythological, and we're probably not going to go with anything literary (these are yappy little kickables after all, not pure-bred abyssinians).

I don't have any names, but OH MY GOD THEY ARE SO CUTE.

edit: Sophie is pretty good for the girl though. Not sure about Bruiser.

Bruiser was the name of of Reese Witherspoons chihuahua in Legally Blonde. This is terribly low brow, I know. My mom and I both really liked the film though (but not the terrible sequel).

    -edit-

Athena and Apollo were the overwhelming suggestions of the google hive mind for male/female littermates. While Athena is certainly a smart name, when I think of dogs named after Greek deities these two little rugrats are not what leaps to mind. Maybe if they were rottweiler puppies.

I know Athena is known for smarts, but I would think Artemis would've been better considering they were actually twins. Apollo would be pretty good for the boy dog though.

Also, if you ever want to tell how you ended up with these precious faces, I'm totally all ears. Or eyes.

I had named my dog (may he rest in peace) after a comic book character -- Harvey Dent. We just called him Harvey but we knew what it meant and other people didn't know what we meant, so it wasn't blatantly nerdy/geeky.

I think their cuteness is distracting me because I just want to roll on the ground with them right now.

If you like the idea of an ancient Greek god name, Ares was the rambunctious war god not known for being clever.
So two Greek war gods, Athena and Ares. One wise, one messy. There goes the neighborhood!

I was going to suggest Athena and Ares.

    Or at least Ares.

My mom used to say that naming of a dog should be something that you wouldn't be embarrassed about being heard yelling out in the yard while trying to get them in.

I really do like the Athena and Ares though...

Biblically, three prominently wise women are Bruriah (cast as being the smart prophet, also the first name of a prominent Einstein protege), Deborah (only female judge, basically took over a war), and Abigail (Cleopatra-like figure, knew who to marry to not die after David sent her first husband on a suicide mission).

I.. don't think my brain is capable of thinking of names for something with the "nothing nerdy, mythological, or literary" restrictions. Like, it's almost embarrassing but I don't even know where to start beyond that. Bart and Lisa? (Is the Simpsons mainstream enough to not fall under "too nerdy"?) This is bugging me now.

Those are SO GODDAMN CUTE, though. Dachshund/Pekingese is a great mix.

Eeewww, why not just name them Oedipus and his mom, Than?

We're avoiding names of lovers. These are siblings. I'm already disturbed enough when the male feels the need to help his sister clean her genital area. Lets not add to it.

But some good suggestions so far. (except for Than, who likes incest).

    I thought maybe titans.

We really like Phoebe for the girl, it's a cute name and rolls off the tongue nicely. Problem is none of Phoebe's brothers had names with a nice ring to them. Kronos is probably the best one, but it's still kind of harsh.

I would named them r2 and d2. That's probably way too nerdy.

Jen and Kira from the Dark Crystal is probably too nerdy too.

My dogs are named Data, Lore and Fizzgig. I'm probably not going to be good at this.

Maybe, doughnut for the boy, bagel for the girl. I think I'm just hungry.

edit: beaker for the boy, mimi for the girl

I think we're leaning towards Phoebe and Leo right now (Leo came out of nowhere, probably as a response to my pressing for Crash last night, which mom hates for some reason).

    -edit-

Now I realize where it came from. It came from Charmed, which my mom liked a lot (she used to watch it with my late stepdad). When I suggested Phoebe (after the titan, not the Alyssa Milano character) it must have trigged subconscious Charmed vibes for my mom.

Try not to give them names that sound too much the same.

And Leo was with Piper. Look, shut up. My mom watched Charmed from start to bitter end and she's practically deaf. NOWHERE IN THE HOUSE WAS SAFE.

Right I know, but Leo and Piper were married, whereas Leo and Phoebe were brother and sister (in-laws) so it kinda works.

    -edit-

And we're definitely trying to avoid names that sound the same. We have Rex, and Missy already so adding two more this is getting hard.
