Uh, so I had to decide whether I wanted to abandon this and start something new or stay the course.

I decided on the latter, but I had to switch methods. This is from a direct capture video, so if the quality is too horrible, I'll try to make it higher quality next time.

I prefer larger scale images, myself.

Part 5: Lunatic Waltz

Been a while, hasn't it? But the journey's only just begun.
(Disclaimer: I used a lower quality recording method as a test.
Future updates will have higher quality images, apologies in advance.)

Oh, thank goodness you're not a monster! You scared the living daylights out of me!
This is the village of Polizu. Everyone is scared stiff because of the monster attacks.

The locals are jumpy!

It chills me to the bone... hideous monsters have been invading our village,
and we are powerless to stop them.

Everyone's got issues.

It makes me very uneasy. Is this land in danger?

Possibly. Let's chat with the townsfolk!

I'm the head security guard, so watch it.

But no one's catching anything these days... I wonder what's going on up there.

It's just to the north of here. I wouldn't go near there if I were you.

Yes, there is still a ridiculous amount of dialogue used just for examining random objects.

If I had captured it all, this update would be three times as long.

I can't sleep until I've written in mine. It's a habit I'll never grow out of.

Fortunately, ours are set to auto.

Rarely does he ever come out, so I haven't seen much of him.
Strange, isn't it?

Very. Let's meet him!

Even in Cefiro; men can't cook.

Fortune telling, not really helpful at this point in the game. (If ever.)

What about this local sage everyone's nuts over?

The only one who's nuts is him.

The villages love me because I created a special barrier to keep the monsters away, but...
Monsters have managed to get past my barrier, and now my reputation is in jeopardy.

See, even his wife knows it.

A neat item shop, also too pricey.
(I'm cheap, sue me.)

Can't get over there just yet... hopefully later.

Meanwhile, in the Mayor's crib...

Monsters from the Tempting Cave have been attacking our village, and we are defenseless.
The legend says that when Cefiro is in danger, three Magic Knights would show up...
I'm not one for legends, but oh do I wish this one would come true.

If these three Magic Knights were to suddenly appear, what would you ask of them?

Hmm... well, the Magic Knights are said to be quite skilled in the ways of sorcery.
So I would ask them to create a new barrier, even stronger than Lukino's, to protect us.

I'm sorry, but we haven't yet learned any magic that could create such a barrier.

Hikaru!

What did you just say? Wait a minute... there ARE three of you... No, it couldn't be!

We were sent forth by the High Priest Clef to save the land of Cefiro.

But, mere children? And you cannot create the barrier? Hmm...

We may not be able to create a barrier, but if you wish, we'll go to the cave and fight for you.

You... you would take that risk for us?

Hikaru! What're you saying!? We're supposed to be searching for those Machine things!
Precia told us that our next destination should be the Northern Sea... no?

Yes, but... I cannot leave here while these innocent people are in need of our help.

But we don't have a lot of time...

Now now, Umi.
Yes, it's important for us to seek the machines, but don't forget what Precia said.
For our weapons to grow into the keys that revive the machines, our wills must grow too.

Well, yes, that's true...
At this point, we don't really know how our weapons... and our very hearts... will grow...

But if we try to do good by helping out like this, we may come closer to finding out.

So do you think that this might be the way?

We've got nothing to lose by attempting to find out!

Ehh... so, what's the verdict?

We can't promise that we'll meet your expectations, but we'll certainly try our best!

The monsters here hit hard, so using Hikaru and Umi's close range attacks isn't too bright.

These guys teleport around, but they go down easy.

Treasure! No colored gems, unfortunately.

Looks like there's some interference.

We send him packing.

Tricky tunnels.

I had a lucky guess. (Really, I picked #4 first.)

And off he goes again.

The puzzles here are pretty simple for the most part.

But this is only the first real dungeon, it'll get worse.

Hmm.

Take that ball, for example. It looks like something that might be mildly fun and entertaining.
But I know that it is actually a fearsome steel ball of rolling death!
Now you will learn that unfortunate truth firsthand! Run! Run, COWARDS!

What a dick.

Turnabout justice.

And he's gone again.

More beasties, easily disposed of.

Listen up! Hasn't anyone ever told you three to respect the wishes of your elders!?
I warned you before, but now I'm COMMANDING you! Do NOT advance beyond this point!

Not much of a threat.

Sadly, he's not done yet.

A little tricky, just a jumping puzzle.

Probably the trickiest part of the dungeon.
Have to wait for the platform and land on it.

This is getting old. Hilariously pathetic, but old.

Check out THIS magic! I think you'll find it's a BLAST! Ha haaa!

Sadly, no way around him, not even by shooting him. (I sure tried.)

Plan B.

You will now command the "Green Squall".
It will summon fierce winds with which your enemies may be tossed about.

Sweet, let's try that.

I don't need your help! I have the situation in this cave totally under control!

So much for that.

One side, slacker.

Naturally, sealed in on arrival.

It is pretty nasty looking.

Obvious weak spot.

Beyond that, just a matter of patience and bullet dodging.
(I may upload the fight if there's any interest, took about 8 minutes.)

I made the barrier to protect the village, and was pampered for my efforts.
But when monsters started filtering into the village, my reputation suffered.
And then, YOU arrived! I felt threatened by all sides.

I knew if you defeated the beasts in here, my reputation would be crushed forever!

THAT'S why you've been such a royal pain in the butt?

Interesting phrasing, but... yes.

Well, okay! Everything's solved, monster's dead, let's go!

Nice welcoming committee.

With the legendary Magic Knights fighting for our village? Of course we waited!

You'll be relieved to know that the beasts are...

The important thing is that this lengthy ordeal is no longer on his conscience.
If he doesn't feel any shame about it, that's his concern, not ours.
Besides, with that reasoning, we can skirt the whole issue about white-lie morality.

(One of my favorite lines right there.)

Even so, up until now he's been protecting this village! He can't be all that bad!

Yeah, I guess you're right. I wonder if this good deed earned us any brownie points?

I just have to figure out why they were so nice to Lukino after what he did...
It has to be an act... They cannot be THAT sweet..

Part 6: Off The Deep End

Decided to cut this one short since it's ready.

There's a special video to almost make up for it.

The town to the north, a colorful place.

Lately, nobody's been able to catch any fish, though.
It doesn't make any sense...

No relation to the wrapping paper.

The locals are a pessimistic bunch.

She's got this... this... THING for a pet...
Some kind of monster... it's gross!

There's an old legend that says a dragon rests beneath it...

There's only one way to find out! We have to make our way to that island.

Easier said than done, what with all the water in the way.

Right after that happened, Caltus left the village.

Hmm.

Could always learn!

The only person who MIGHT stand a single chance in hell of succeeding is gone.

His name was Caltus, and he disappeared a few weeks ago.

Sounds worth looking into.

No one's having any luck.

The view is nice, anyway. (The skyline is animated, as well.)

In unsurprising news, guess who's ALSO here?

Hello to you, too! We bump into each other quite a bit!

Part 7: Deus Ex Machina

Didn't do any videos this time since the interest doesn't seem to be there, but I may still go back and do some for the cutscenes.

(Also, the boss fight was stupidly easy.)

The ice cavern, second (real) dungeon in the game.

Still nothing major.

And toasting some ice obstacles.

A couple simple puzzles, but I'm fine with that: I hate mind-numbing action RPG puzzles.

It is called "Flaming Shock".

Use it to unleash a shower of lightning from the heavens
upon your unfortunate enemies.

Saturns are not. They require a (rather cheap) import adapter.

volumes of robot are also stupidcheap here and i love some murata/abe compilation.

I would remorselessly murder for that game. The Lain PSX game isn't that. Third rate anime.

For what it's worth, BOTH versions of MKR sell for dirt cheap. The Japanese one especially.

Fun fact: another reason it took so long to localize was because huge portions of the coding were lost by the original developers, and Working Designs had to rebuild it from scratch.

When last we left off, it seems some foreigners are stirring up drama in iceland.

While [strike]Caldina[/strike] some mysterious pink-haired girl we've never ever seen before is drawing all the guys, someone else is controlling the ladies.

I wonder where we've seen him before.

Well, he's popular enough.

Looks like somebody's pretty popular with the ladies...

And it looks like someone's about to get knocked the eff out.

This dungeon's a bit tricky. Lots of overlapping conveyor paths, and two layers.

Also a couple switches.

Not much of a threat as monsters go, aside from some durable snails.

And some brain dead townsfolk.

Quite a few rainbow amulets. Still way too many to go.

These lead to the higher level.

HP bonus!

And new magic!

Receive the magic of the blue tornado!
With this magic, you can create a whirlwind of water that sucks in your enemies.

Lots more of them.

New magic opens new doors, which leads to...

This trap was supposed to be for the girls, but I've trapped a waif instead!?
I don't believe... hey, wait a minute, I know you!
You're the one who tried to stop me from hypnotizing the villagers!
You played that annoying noise and kept the women from falling under my control!
Because of you, my plans were almost ruined!

Oh, what PERFECT timing! Now I can dispatch four pitiful annoyances at once!

helllooo. love your lp. played this game as a child and was obsessed with it. love how talking with each of the girls gets a different reaction. when they are encased in their colorful light thing they are getting an upgrade to their armor (:
