    one way to verify people as villagers is to have them c/p their role PM and see if what they've posted matches the PM of a confirmed villager.

    A strategy which obviously doesn't work (and I think the argument is that it shouldn't work) when the villager PM is provided to everyone

    I have a rule in the coming thread OP stating that role PM's cannot be transmitted, either by copy/pasting, screenshotting or whatever.

    I kind of think people should be able to try and convince others they are harmless.

    Well, if everyone has a unique role or is part of a group, villager PMs don't amount to much.

    Only if the majority all get a similar PM. I don't think those have been useful in ages.

    In the games I've played it's always been the opposite. The mafia always has at least some people who are VERY vocal and try to steer the public dialog constantly.

    It used to be a CF thing, but that ended when they wanted to cut down on clutter.
