Super Mario Strikers:
Penny-Arcade Championship

Unfortunately Mario Strikers can't be played cross region (Pal to NTSC), but for those of you wanting to organise games, you can find the friends list:

If people want to merge the Pal friend codes in to the Wiki then that'd be great with me :D

Old Op spoilered for posterity.
::Edit:: Cup is over and the winner was PotU! Bow down before his awesome Super Mario Striker skills!

Thanks to everyone taking part, I know for myself there were some tense matches there (ok, there was nothing tense about the matches against Rami, I might as well just have taken the batteries out of my remote) and I hoped everyone enjoyed it. Providing we can play NTSC vs PAL we should set up a World Cup when the game's released there!

Thanks again folks.

Original Op

It's rare we get a game before our NTSC friends, so let's take the opportunity to make them ever so slightly jealous. Up to now all talk has gone on in this thread:http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=22141. Chat about the game and so on should continue there!

Rules of the Cup!

Most of these have been stolen from: http://n-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14466 so all credit to those guys. It seemed like a good enough system though.

- Each player must play their opponents both Home and Away (These can be done at seperate times if time is an issue)
- The person hosting (Home team) should set the game CPU to Level 3 (Rule updated as it seemed it was too easy with CPU Level 2)
- Games should be best of 5
- Matches should be set to 3 minutes
- No "cheats" enabled
- Stadium should be chosen by "Home" team.
- Matches should be organised as and when players can via PM or Instant Messaging service

Point system!

- 3 Points for a win in normal time (in three minutes)
- 2 Points for a win in sudden death (over 3 minutes)
- 1 Point for a loss in sudden death
- 0 Points for losing

Knockout round and Final Rules
-2 series of one game (home and away)
-if the games a splitted count the goals the two games and give two points for each goal scored on the away pitch.
-if this results in a draw then it goes to penalties. Each player gets to make 5 unhindered Mega Strike attempts against the other. Most goals wins. In the event of a draw it goes into sudden death (i.e. each player alternates Mega Strikes until there is a clear winner).

Organisation!

Once we've had people register interest I'll organise the groups and add Wii Codes and Mii names to this post. Once the groups have been played out it'll go to knock out rounds.

Voice chat available on the Ventrillo server for those who want to talk during the game (or anyone who wants a running commentary of a game in progress!).

Any other comments/requests/people telling me this is a stupid idea please speak up!

Op updated with details of those confirmed up to now. Any complaints of the rules etc? Opinions on if we should do best of 5 or best of 3?

With regard to the Home/Away team, how about the home team can pick which stadium they use rather than having them randomly select, to give them a -slight- advantage?

rules are ok i guess. i would go for normal best out of 5 since you can have more interesting "catch up" games.

stadium: yes, let the home team pick the stadium.

what about time frame? one week per round?

I agree on that the hometeam should be allowed to choose the stadium.

5 games per series sounds ok to me too, but I would suggest to set up a longer time frame, say about 2-3 weeks.

Ditto, if everyone from the previous thread wishes to take part then we have 14 players. Not quite sure how that'll split down in to groups but that's still a fair few matches and I can't get online every night.

I reckon a time frame of 2 weeks (with possible extension if people get stuck, but two weeks should be the aim).

like the op says, you get in a group, you play that people 1 game home 1 game away - after the group rounds, the 4 best players are gonne get into the half final then final - depending on the number of participants even quarter finals.

    can't wait ;)

(It's not quite as fair as having 4 seperate groups but it's the only way I can see of doing it. Other suggestions welcome :D)

If the Groups stay like this, I would give the 4th spot to best 2nd place in the group round.

However, since the teams in group 1 will have played an extra two games (because of the 4 people in their group), you would probably hvae to ignore the results they got against the lowest place team in their group. That should put them all on the same playing field.
