Reseat Video card, Sound poofs.

Hey guys, this is a problem that's been bugging me since I got this machine up. Basically I have a rocketfish 5.1 PCI card for audio in my machine. When I first built the machine the machine only recognized the onboard 'High Definition Audio Device', which is displayed 4 times in my 'Sound, Video, and Game controllers' section of the Device manager.

After trying to install the drivers and getting 'Hardware not detected' errors from everything I disabled the onboard audio. Still didn't work. I basically unplugged the soundcard, plugged it back in, and it worked!

So fast forward to today: Videocard's fan was making a weird noise, unplugged and checked the fan, little wobbly (another concern all together) but nothing I could fix. Plugged it back in, turned the computer on and no sound again.

What's causing this bullshit? Can it really be some sort of IRQ conflict? Shouldn't those be extinct?

Edit: Windows 7. Sparkle GTX 570. P67A-C43 Mobo.

Taking out the sound card and putting it back in resolved the issue.

But is there something I'm missing?

You don't even need a soundcard anymore. Onboard sound chips are just as good nowadays. Might I ask why you're keeping that around?

Extra ports is pretty much the only reason.

Extra ports? Why do you need more audio ports?

But....you should already have all the ports you need. And is Windows even capable of outputting to more than one sound device?
