Getting some preliminary help on this one whilst I set aside the day to troubleshoot things.
me - advanced computer user. been building my own rigs and doing everything myself for years.
pc - win 7 64bit custom build. ASUS P5Q-Deluxe, Intel Q6600. 4 sticks OCZ RAM.
problem - computer was working like every other day up till about 3 am last night. attempted to turn on via case power button today and absolutely nothing.
that means no sounds, no fans starting, nothing.
checked power cable (good), checked other devices plugged into same monster surge protector (monitor, speaker set, etc all working).
mobo standby power lights are on.
note this mobo also has an on-board power and reset switches. both have zero effect, ruling out the case being the issue.
there is absolutely nothing of note to suggest environmental factors. PC wasn't bumped, no water dumped on it, etc etc.
There is an outside possibility there was a power surge or failure over night, but nothing else in the home is suggestive of that.
I've disconnected everything apart from the cpu, and still nothing.
I've removed and reseated the cpu, and still nothing.
The above required me to remove and reseat the mainboard. Nothing.
I guess that means it's either the PSU or the mainboard? Of course I'm lacking in a second of either to test with.
Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Corsair PSU is toast.
Who knows why, never pushed it hard.
Still under warranty though.
